Chapter 9: An Awkward Introduction

She made a small noise in the back of her throat and found that Helan whirled around, ripped the sunglasses out of his pocket and put them on his face. He then turned to look at Pipi.

Before he could speak, Pipi quickly said:

"Good evening, Mr. Helan. Gosh, there's a lot of snow today, don't you think? This must be the most snow we've had for a hundred years! I didn't know I'd find you here. Oops, I forgot to introduce myself. I am a lowly first-year student and your admirer. I'm very fascinated by ancient jade."

Her words had a tone of urgency and Pipi felt her lips go dry. She couldn't help but wait for his reaction.

Helan did not respond. Pipi thought to herself that if this person would only remove his sunglasses, he would be very handsome. The corner of his mouth was slightly crooked, revealing a potential smile. It seemed half sarcastic, half mocking.

She felt like it was difficult to link this person to this year's "Top Ten Good News" list. At least from the perspective of getting an interview, the difficulty was high, and that wasn't taking into account whether he was even worth it.

However, Pipi wouldn't give up on her dream easily!

She turned around and leaned over to see a jade cup: "Ah! This jade cup is so delicate! Is it from the Han Dynasty? Is this pattern a cloud-ray pattern? This kind of jade cup with such a handle is really rare! Look, it's like an Irish beer mug. Mr. Helan, could I ask you a few questions? It's a bit late, am I disturbing you? Could you explain to me in detail what is Johor Bahru and what is Laoshan jade? Also, how do you know that a particular jade is an antique rather than a fake? Oh - how small your magnifying glass is! How strong is it? Can it shrink images too?"

Although it was a lively opening remark, Pippi was alarmed by her poor acting skills, and she became a bit skeptical about whether she could really be a reporter.

He Lanjing did not speak for a long time. After a while, he slowly asked: "You are-"

"My name is Guan Pipi, a graduate of T Lake University." She shook hands with him enthusiastically. "I am very happy to meet you!"

Their hands had just touched when Pipi felt nauseous. She suddenly began to retch, and while retching, she apologized: "Sorry, I think I must have eaten something bad..."

Helan silently watched her for a moment, saying nothing. Then he took her out of the storeroom and took her to his office and handed her a glass of water.

"My stomach has not been too good recently." Pipi's face was completely white, but for the sake of her mission, she smiled at Helan Jing.

"My stomach has not been too good recently." Pipi's face was completely white, but for the sake of her mission, she smiled at Helan Jing.

"Better?" He asked, unsmiling.

"Yes, better."

"How much do you earn in a year?"

"Excuse me? You want to know about my wages?"

"We have to talk about the issue of compensation."

"Compensation?" Guan Pipi was baffled. "What compensation?"

"Did you just throw up?"

"Well... yes?"

"And where were you doing it?"

"In the storeroom on some brown thing."

"Firstly, that's not some 'brown thing', and secondly it's a relic of the Shang Dynasty," Helan sneered. "Do you know the corrosive power of human stomach juice on bronze?"

"Oh..." Pipi gulped. She still felt nauseous but she looked down and around and saw that there was another relic on the floor next to the table. Seeing that it was a silk flower with a gleaming base and dragons carved into it, seemingly made of pure gold, she swallowed her bile.

"Is this... what period is this from?"

"The Tang dynasty."

"And this?" She pointed to a celadon vase.

"Yuan dynasty."

She saw a large bowl on the desk. Its form was simple, it didn't look expensive, so she picked it up only to have it almost instantly taken from her grasp by Helan. "Don't touch that, it's also from the Tang dynasty."

Pipi was really anxious. She shouted at him out of desperation "Mister Helan! I have to vomit! You have to find something for me to do it in!"

Helan looked at her with a smile and said, "Why don't you just do it on the ground?"
