Chapter 1: Today is the Day

Today started the second semester of my course, I failed in Calculus and Physics last semester, so this semester I will have to repeat these classes. My first class of the day was Physics, where the teacher did a vector review, how to decompose vectors and calculate with scalar.

After the class that was supposed to continue until 20 minutes to the other class giving 20 minutes for lunch, which did not happen because the teacher likes to have lunch and releases the class 40 minutes before. So I could have a quiet lunch, but not something healthy.

Back to the subject.

The next class was from General Geophysics II, with a young, bald, chubby, funny teacher, before he actually started the class he talked about the temporal cells that exist in our brain, they are responsible for what the brain remembers or not. they tend to keep information that you are interested in, so if you have no interest they end up excluding what you just learned, which I found interesting I don't know you. Beginning the actual lesson he went to show us how Eratosthenes was able to calculate the circumference of the earth 300 years before Christ.

Eratosthenes heard from someone that when the sun was up he would leave the well without shadow, leading him to wonder if this happened throughout the kingdom. He then hired a Roman soldier, we know that the Roman soldier had an exceptional marching organization, with every step exactly the same, so he asked the soldier to count how many steps he took to the other city following the Nile River, Nile River follows a meridian, thus being horizontally making a bend with Alexandria that was the city where Eratosthenes lived. Eratosthenes took the difference in steps = D (distance) and height of the mast he had in both cities = h (height) by multiplying the two by the size of the shadow the masts made when it was noon when the sun was up. it was at its peak. When he made this account, he got a result with a 5% margin of error. Remember 300 a.c.

This guy is very cool.

After this class, I had a calculus class, which I wasn't so interested in, so my brain temporal cells went out.
