Ye-Jin came out of the bathroom after finishing her bath. Somehow she felt much better after the hot bath and her drowsiness was almost gone. She stood fidgeting at the door of the bathroom unsure about how she should approach Ray, who by the sounds was currently in the kitchen.
Ye-Jin was unsure about facing Ray after what happened last night. He had obviously seen her at her lowest and was for reasons unknown to her was upset with her.
Ray came out of the kitchen and he immediately caught Ye-Jin zoning out- standing half-in and half-out of the bathroom.
Ray: (raising a brow) are you sleeping with your eyes open?
Ye-Jin snapped out of her reverie when she heard his voice.
Ye-Jin: umm...
Ray: (chuckling) come on, let's eat.
Ye-Jin: (surprised but still not moving) did you cook?
Ray: (shrugging) not exactly, you'll see.
Saying so he didn't wait for her but quietly turned around and went back the same way he had come from. Ye-Jin's stomach growled in protest and she too meekly followed him inside. When she saw what he had prepared she was surprised.
Ye-Jin: (in a low voice) so you can't cook-
The house was silent so ray could clearly hear her soft whisper. His brows furrowed at the criticism.
Ray: I can't cook much but I was hungry and thought you'd be too. So, when I found noodles lying around in the house I just-
Ye-Jin: (nodding fiercely) yes! yes! It looks delicious! I am hungry, so let's dig in.
Ye-Jin didn't wait for him and literally pounced on her bowl of steaming noodles. She was glad that she could avoid the impending 'talk' for some more time. Ray only shook his and smiling at her cute little antics.
Halfway through their meal, Ray looked up at her and curiously asked the question which had been burning in his mind from the previous night.
Ray: (carefully) what happened yesterday?
Ye-Jin paused in between and looked at him with her wide eyes. She didn't expect him to be this direct. For a few seconds, she blinked at him owlishly.
Ray: (sighing) I was worried about you.
He didn't say anything else after that and quietly hung his head down. Last night when he walked through those dark alleys only he knew how terrified he had been for her and how many nasty and dark thoughts had run through his mind. But that didn't mean he had any right to force her to tell him something which she clearly wasn't willing to share with anyone.
On the other hand, Ye-Jin's face crumpled looking at his hung head. She took a deep breath before opening her mouth again.
Ye-Jin: I had a fall out with Aera.
Ray looked up surprised. He didn't expect that she would open up to him.
Ray: (softly) why?
Ye-Jin: She got to know about my family and us from a third-person so-
Ray: (frowning) third person?
Ye-Jin: (nodding) She was with me when I went to meet big-sis yesterday.
Ray: Oh! but how did that lead you both to fall out?
Ye-Jin: she didn't know anything about me. It was a huge shock to her. She feels hurt and betrayed.
At the end of her sentence, Ye-Jin's voice became quieter. It was clear that she was blaming herself for the whole misunderstanding and Ray didn't have a clue as to how he was going to console her. He was thinking hard to come up with some idea but his thoughts were interrupted
Ye-Jin: (faintly smiling) It's ok, I'll be fine. I'll eventually sort things out with her.
Ray: (nodding) ok. if you need any help then I am here.
Ye-Jin didn't say anything and only nodded at his assurance. She didn't speak further and concentrated on finishing up her food. On the other hand, ray had somewhat lost his appetite. He wasn't feeling good knowing that she was hurting and was pretending to be optimistic for his sake. He just wanted to see her smile genuinely once again. He couldn't digest her solemn face anymore. Moreover, her appearance earlier had almost scared him.
He decided to relent to her longtime request at that moment as he was definite that it would actually make her smile for real. Even though he knew that he was going to take a big risk by doing this he couldn't think of any other plan god enough to cheer her up.
Ray: (firmly) Get up early tomorrow I'll take you out someplace nice.
Ye-Jin was stunned by the sudden firmness of his voice. He rarely used that tone with her. He was clearly unwilling but determined about something.
Ye-Jin: (shaking her head) I am alright you don't have to-
Ray: (smiling) I am not asking you, sweetie. I am telling you.
Ye-Jin was speechless once again. She never knew that he could be that domineering with only a few words. With no reason or way to refute she simply nodded showing her acquiesce.
Ray didn't linger around much around her house after finishing the noodle-meal. He ordered her to sleep early and be ready by six the next morning before bidding her goodbye.
If he was to carry out his plan tomorrow then he had to make many prior preparations for the whole night.
