Chapter 6: Park Ye-Jin (part-1)

Following morning as promised Ye-Jin slept-in; she had the help from the cold which she had successfully caught by being out in the cold during the night. She had felt terrible when she had woken up because of her blocked nose and clogged throat. Accompanying them was a little headache but the ailment wasn't enough to keep her bed-ridden.

She felt better as soon as she had carried on with her chores around the house. She looked at the calendar and saw the bold red-writing on the current date- courtesy of her mother:

"Clean the house."

The reminder was enough to get her started after having breakfast. She knew that her parents would visit her the next day so she had to keep the house neat and squeaky clean for them. She spent most of the afternoon cleaning her small house.

It wasn't a huge feat as she always made sure that her place was nice, clean, cosy and good. It was a promise she had given to her mother when she had moved cities for her work- she would be responsible. The daughter of the owner of the chain of resorts along the beaches of the country was currently living in the small house, in the huge city as an insignificant.

What did she do for work you ask?

When Ye-Jin graduated from college she had been given options of pursuing her career in administration or if she had something else planned. She had been sure of what she wanted to do until she became stable enough to grow on her own two feet.

She had confidently told her father her plans. He had disapproved the idea at first but gradually supported her after seeing how dedicated she was. Being her close friend even Aera didn't know about Ye-Jin's lineage. She had always assumed her to be a scholarship pupil. The idea of a rich kid was something else and Ye-Jin didn't fit that description even a pinch.

Ye-Jin had chosen the path of social service- especially helping women and children. She had studied the trend and even interned as a journalist back in the days so she now ran an institute in the city where she worked as a teacher for children who were orphans and disabled.

It was well-known that the institute was owned by Park Hu-Ye and his wife Park So-Jin ran it but in truth, all the administration was carried out by their youngest daughter Park Ye-Jin who stayed out of eyes of media as far as possible.

Being the second and youngest daughter of the couple, she was several times spoken about in the media but as far as they could tell she was kept hidden when in reality she lived in the open.

Ye-Jin was the kind of person who was satisfied with her life; she only wished to do well by others too.

While she was busy cleaning her bathroom her phone rang shrilly. Blowing the stubborn curl of hair out of her face she washed her hands and answered the call. It was her college friend and long-time consultant lawyer, Shin Jay.

Ye-Jin: hello bro.

Shin Jay: hey Jin are you free this evening?

Ye-Jin: why do you ask bro?

Shin Jay: there is someone I want you to meet-

Ye-Jin: are you setting me up on some blind date again?

Shin Jay: Your sister would kill me if I start doing that. She has warned me to stay clear of that topic. "She will date when she is ready, not when you push her" were her exact words.

Ye-Jin: (chuckling) she is right though. How is big-sis doing? She might be angry at me for missing your house warming party.

Shin Jay: she is furious but don't tell her I told you this, she is planning to come to your house tomorrow with mom.

Ye-Jin: big-sis is planning to come here? That's so wonderful.

Shin Jay: (clearing his throat) I will text you the address be ready by six.

Ye-Jin: sure sure. Give big-sis my love.

Shin Jay: sure, I will speak with you later.

I am feeling a little happy today since I cleared a national level exam (in the first attempt! yay!)

So, I'll be uploading another chapter to celebrate with all lovely readers!

So it's a total of 3 chapters today!

Chapter 7: Park Ye-Jin (part-2)

Ye-Jin hung up on the call and continued with her work.

So as seen just now Shin Jay was just not her close friend but also her sister's husband. Ye-Jin's elder sister Park So-ah was completely opposite from what Ye-Jin was. She had immersed herself in business from a pretty young age and now she was known as the most intimidating businesswoman of all times. She exuded a cold, chic and sharp image.

Shin Jay and So-ah had been high school sweethearts and their relationship had been blessed by each set of parents from the start being the close family friends they were.

They had gotten married previous month and had a house-warming party fortnight ago but Ye-Jin had been stuck that night dealing with the aftermath of a huge exposure of child trafficking racket. She had to immediately take care of rehabilitation's of the young children rescued, most of whom had been orphans.

So-ah had become pretty upset with her little sister for not showing up for an important event in her life. She hadn't even spoken to her nor heard to any reasoning given to her. Ye-Jin had felt completely responsible for upsetting her sister despite being busy.

The most important thing their parents had taught/drilled into both the sisters was that family was always important; no matter what happened family always supported you and it always comes first. So-ah was upset because she couldn't share her happiness with her little sister and Ye-Jin felt responsible for weighing more importance to her work.

When Ye-Jin had gotten off her busy schedule that day she had immediately called her big-sis to apologise and grovel if the princess refused to listen to her pleas. It was like this always, their mother was the empress of their household and Park So-ah was the formidable elder princess whereas she was a total misfit.

Despite her exceptionally good looks (female lead is supposed to have them right??) and calm temperament, she was nowhere near a socialite who always strutted around in new fashionable clothes and high heels whereas her sister, well there is one word to describe her and that is: polar ice-caps and untouchable.

It was a miracle that her heart had been thawed by Shin Jay. It didn't mean that she didn't care. So-ah was most protective of her younger sister from a very young age. It had always been her who attended to Ye-Jin's every whim and whine even before their mother or any appointed nannies.

OK coming back to the phone call on the night of the housewarming. Ye-Jin didn't even rush to go home but as soon as the work was completed the first thing she did was to call her loving big sister to apologise. The first six attempts, So-ah didn't even bother to respond- it indicated how angry she was. For the seventh try, the call was answered but it wasn't her sister- it was picked up by Shin Jay.

Shin Jay : (softly) I don't think you should speak with her right now Jin.

Ye-Jin: (pouting) Can't I speak with her once?

Shin Jay: (sighing) now doesn't look like a good time. I can almost see fire coming out from her nostrils.

Ye-Jin: (gulping nervously) Bro! please!? I just want to apologise to her-

Before she could complete her sentence her plea was finally answered but

So-ah: (sounding eerily calm) who's this?

Ye-Jin: (shuddering at the sudden cold) big sis I-

So-ah: (calmly) I don't have any little sister, so don't call me big sis and stop calling random people in the dead of the night.

Ye-Jin felt as if she was doused with a bucket full of ice-cold water. Her sister had never spoken such harsh words to her ever. Although she didn't shout at her in anger or scold her fiercely the calm indifferent manner which she spoke in pinched her heart more.

Ye-Jin: (pitifully) big sis, please-

So-ah: I said- (voice cracking)-

Whatever So-ah wanted to say she couldn't complete it, she didn't think twice before ending the call. Her voice seemed heavy as if she was trying hard not to cry.

Ye-Jin felt horrible about the whole thing. She had seen her big sis cry only once when they were little and that was when Jin got hurt while following her around and second was today. The little change in voice at the end broke Ye-Jin's heart.

From that day she had tried her best to balance her both professional and personal lives in a suitable harmony.
