Ch.16 Lunch Break
"I so tired and sore and hungry, let's stop and eat"
"We can take a break if you need to, but there isn't any real food in out bags, mostly snacks."
"It'll be fine, my legs are just killing me, my arms are sore and I think I need a little nap"
"Let's just sit under this tree for a little, we're already halfway and it's still afternoon."
We walk to the side of the road; I lean against a random tree and pull up the shop screen.
"So, what do you want for lunch? I can get whatever, fish, steak, fruit, vegies. I think I'll go for some salmon filled sushi."

"How about some… sandwiches, with ham?"

I look into my inventory and bring out the two plates of food. A small red cloth flutters around my hands and as it disappears each of my hands is a plate.
"Lunch is served mademoiselle." I dramatically present her preferred meal before sitting back down and starting to munch on the six rolls on my own plate.
"It's still really unbelievable how you do that, and it's been years since I've had a freshly prepare meal other than rabbits and deer." She bites into the sandwich with enthusiasm before devouring two whole sandwiches before I can finish my first piece of sushi.
"So, is there anything you want to do once your back to civilisation?" I ask Clem as I give Eevee one of my sushi rolls.
"I want to take AJ and have a nice, long and warm bath. I could kill for a bath, after that I guess I'll try to get AJ into a school and get a real education. It's all happened so quick and I'm still used to the take it a day at a time mindset."
"At least you have plan, I was just going to stay here for a bit, maybe try to be your friend or something but then I just went fuck it and took a jump at the opportunity of asking you back there. I don't even have a place or you to stay so that'll be the first thing I organise once we go back home."

We spent the next 20 minutes or so just chatting about what we would do once we left this world from living places to things we could eat. Clem ate all five sandwiches that were on her plate and I gave Eevee a second Sushi roll while I massaged my legs.
We got back on the move and after our rest our pace was slightly quicker so we got there in 25minutes.
"And here we are Clem, ready for some target practice, I'll even act as bait if you want."
Clem gives me a weird look "don't be stupid, if you do stuff like that, I'll shoot you myself." She says before checking the ammo in her pistol and walking towards the entrance of C and C auto.
"Oh shit, I totally forgot. Clem, those are dead bullets, most of them won't work so you'll be firing blanks."
She looks at me suspiciously for a second before shooting a bullet into the ground only for a small cloud of white powder to blow out of the gun and the casual fling out.
Her face become one of rage as she shouts "THAT MOTHER FUCKER! Giving me bullets that won't fire, it's not a game out here, I'm going to kill that bastard next time I see him!"
'note to self, don't screw Clem over' I think to myself before motioning to her to come along
As we are walking into the junkyard there are all kinds of cars piled and trash everywhere, but standing out like a thumb is a decently armoured van, completely empty and there's no one around.
"Ok Clem, there's a group of Mexicans, two teens and adults that own this van, they are either currently getting fuel, being cornered by the new frontier or hiding. Let's hope it's the second option cause then we can corner them."
"Do you know where they might be?"
"yea, just follow this big open path keeping to the right then climb that ladder and you can see the cabin the new frontier is using as a temp base." I tell her as we move through the very familiar junkyard. "The new frontier guys appear on the other side of that shipping container next to the ambulance, I don't know from which way though. We could set up an ambush from the top of the container and if we see them come from where we came, we'll just jump down." I relay my plan to Clem.
"How about I stay on the container with Eve since I have a gun and can shoot from afar and you can stay on the ground for a surprise attack. Eve can watch my back just in case"
"Sure, I'll wait on the other side, give me a signal is they come from behind. Eevee make sure you protect Clementine" I let the little fox down and run up to the ladder.
From the top I can see the ambulance and looking around I can also see the cabin; the door opens and Javi and Kate walk out onto the veranda.
'it'll only be a few minutes until the confrontation, I need to get somewhere Clem can see my but not the others.' I look around and to my left it a clear opening into the forest, it's no longer a guess where they came in from.
'I'm small, I can hide on top of the Ambulance' I think as I run to the back doors and use the door handles as a ladder to pull myself up then to boost myself as I grab the roof and pull myself up.
Keeping my body flat against roof I can only hope it's hard to see me.
I tap into the connection that Kuro and I share, what used to be a tight corridor is now like a train tunnel, it also seems as if Kuro understands more precise orders other than kill, restrain or protect. 'Hey Kuro, get ready to protect Javi, and if possible, stab one of the attackers'
As if acknowledging my wish Kuro spreads its body out of my shadow, taking advantage of the now fallen sun and covering the roof like a blanket.
As I use my eagle vision to see what's happening when I hear a voice.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing with our gas?"
