Chapter 7: Chapter 7 - Others part 2
The fourth issue of 'Batman' is finally here, and to surprise of no one it's really good. This 'Samuel Oak' has a clear idea of where the story will go, and it shows in his comic.
The current story arc has 'Batman' fighting against one of the most prominent mafia groups in 'Gotham'. But to someone who knows the characters and some popular plots that involves them, it was possible to imagine the magnitude of the events that will happen in the future.
"Carla, is there any other thing you want to buy?" My brother asked me suddenly.
The shop was about to close, and there was nothing else to pick my interest. I already had 'The walking dead' second issue, and there wasn't anything 'new' that I could see.
"No, there's nothing else" I simply said, and then with my new acquisition in hand, I followed him to the exit.
The streets were especially crowded today. Not a surprise considering that Christmas was coming.
"Don't leave my side, it's dangerous" My brother said and took one of my hands firmly while walking towards our next destination.
"I know" I mumbled. He really took seriously the responsibility of taking care of me, so I wasn't going to make it hard for him, even though I was old enough to walk by myself.
We were going to the bookstore. There were plenty of them in the city, but one in particular was closer to our home.
It took us about fifteen minutes to arrive, which was a lot considering that we usually take about eight doing the same route.
"You can look around while I go somewhere else" My brother said once we entered the bookstore.
"Hey, you don't have to be shy. Just go and say hi to her" I encouraged him.
Another reason to come here was the lovely daughter of the store owner. My brother has a serious crush on her, but he still haven't even said hi after all this time. It was sad and cute at the same time.
"Wha.. What are you tatalking about?" He stuttered.
I just looked at him with a deadpan expression. It wasn't the first time we had this conversation, so I just waited for him to realize this fact.
"Yeah, hehe. I'll be going then" He finally said nervously, and walked towards where this girl was.
It was adorable seeing him go around her, looking at some books and pretending to be interested in them. While she was oblivious to all of that.
I could've looked at the cheesy scene in front of me for a longer period of time, but I needed to see the new books released before it was time to go, so I turned around and approached the biggest stand in the store.
I had picked up the habit of checking out new books after I discovered the first volume of the princesses collection. Since then, I wanted to know about any 'new' writer that appears in the scene. Information was key, and unfortunately it was hard to get.
"Hi! How are you?" The first thing I encountered was this confident boy trying to approach a beautiful girl who was inspecting some books.
I couldn't blame the guy, the girl was really cute. She had a wavy light brown hair, hazel eyes, and a light tan that accentuated her youthful beauty.
"Oh! I'm fine, just unsure in what book to buy" She replied with a cute smile.
"Maybe I can help you, I like to read a lot" The boy said quickly, with a smile that showed the happiness he was feeling with the current development. "What are you looking for?"
"Really?! Thank you so much" The girl's smile grew. "I'm looking for a Christmas gift and I can't decide which book my boyfriend would like"
I had tried to avoid the situation in front of me. A couple of preteens awkwardly flirting wasn't new to me after all. But even I couldn't help feeling bad for the boy.
"Emmm sorry, I can't help you... Bye!" He said awkwardly, and immediately proceeded to go out of the store. All while the girl had a confused expression on her face.
"He was interested in you, and when you mentioned your boyfriend he just ran away" I explained her the situation. I couldn't let a clueless girl like her go around breaking young boys hearts. I guess that having a insecure brother has made me soft for this kind of situations.
"What?" The girl looked at me with a face full of surprise, "But I had never seen him before"
I just sighed at her words. I couldn't believe that someone so innocent could have a boyfriend in the first place.
"Get used to it, it will happen to you often" I simply said. I wasn't planning on wasting more of my time with her. So I just turned around, looking where to go.
"Thank you... Emmm, I'm sorry but could you help me picking a book?" The girl asked before I could escape.
I was about to refuse, but her damn watery eyes blocked the words out of my mouth. It appears that I was too soft period.
"Yes, of course" I sighed quietly in defeat.
"I'm Claire by the way, nice to meet you" She said with a renewed smile.
"I'm Carla. Likewise" I replied with a smile of my own. "So you are looking for a book for your boyfriend, right?"
"Yes! He used to read more kid friendly stuff, but now he's more interested in longer and more complicated ones. So I don't know what to choose"
"And did you think that a younger girl like me would be of any help?" I asked jokingly.
"Hehehe, you're right" She admitted embarrassingly.
"Don't worry, I already said that I'll help you" I assure her, "I'll need more information about him though. What does he like to do?"
What can a preteen boy like to read? My brother offers no help with this question. I should motivate him to start reading, maybe that way he would have something to talk about with the girl he likes.
"He likes a ton of things. He likes to read, to write books, to make comics... He's currently doing his own game too" Claire replied with a sweet smile.
I smiled back, but in my mind an idea started to flourish. What were the odds to find about another reincarnated guy like this?
"Oh, he must be really talented to do so many things at just what, twelve?... thirteen?" I fished for an answer.
"He's ten! Although he will be eleven in a couple of months"
My age then. Which further confirms my theory about all of us being born around the same time period.
I guess that Claire took my silence as me being impressed, otherwise I couldn't understand why she adopted such proud expression.
"What about this book?" I asked her out of nowhere about 'Harry Potter' that got released last week. I wanted to caught her off guard just in case she knew the person who wrote it.
"Oh, that's a good one. But Sammy is who wrote it, so I don't.... Oh! I shouldn't have said that. Could you keep it a secret? Pretty please" She pleaded.
Sammy?... It could be the famous 'Samuel Oak'. No, it has to be. There's no coincidences.
So this guy went with another style, changed his pen name, and went with another publishing company. And just with that he thought he would trick me, huh?... Well he kind of did.
"Don't worry, I'll keep it a secret" I said sweetly. I couldn't had her being suspicious of me at this time where I got the upper hand.
"Thank you!" She said, and before I could notice I was trapped in a tight hug.
I could see why this Samuel liked her. She was sweet, beautiful, and gave good hugs. Although I still couldn't figure it out why would he even waste his time playing couples with all the work he gave to himself.
"Ok, so you need another book" I said once she let me go, "Then, what about this one?" I showed her 'The chronicles of narnia'.
It was Miguel's book. It got released just yesterday, so I don't think that he has got it yet, unless he has a news source outside of the traditional outlets.
"Oh! It looks interesting. Thank you very much!" She said with a toothy smile after reading it for a while.
"It was my pleasure" I smiled back, "Now, I don't want to intrude, but could you tell me more about your boyfriend? I'm a huge fan of his after all"
Hopefully she will tell me about this game she was talking about before. Although I was more interested in how he got a cartoon so early on, it was the most useful piece of information for me and Miguel right now.
