Chapter 44: The Traitor
As soon as Sun Mei and Lily walked into the studio with Veronica, they were intimidated by the huge props and cameras that lay all over the place.
Sun Mei tried to look for Mr. Wu, but there were so many people around that she was afraid to lose sight of Lily for even a moment. Although many more people greeted Lily and commented on her recent health adventure, she didn't seem to know anyone other than Veronica particularly well. She mostly just nodded her head along and said hi shyly while Sun Mei introduced herself to what seemed like the whole crew.
Eventually, Veronica led them to the main set, where huge sheets of white paper hung from the ceiling. In front of the white background was a cozy armchair with a blanket thrown over it.
Jenny Wu was lounging on the armchair while sipping juice from a glass she was holding in her hand. Mr. Wu was nowhere to be found.
"There's my little treasure!" Jenny exclaimed when she saw Lily approach with Sun Mei and Veronica.
As she stood up, Sun Mei couldn't help gasping.
What exactly were they shooting? A lingerie commercial?
Jenny was wearing a pair of black fishnet stockings along with a set of revealing black underwear. Her straight dark hair had been styled into long curls, and her breasts almost seemed to be jumping out of her bra.
Sun Mei unconsciously looked down at her own chest to check that it was still there. She wouldn't have been surprised if it had hidden itself in embarrassment.
Lily, who was oblivious to Sun Mei's shock, ran over and jumped into Jenny's arms.
"Ouch! Easy there, sweetheart! You don't want to ruin mommy's curls…"
Sun Mei rolled her eyes discreetly. When she turned to look at Veronica, she also seemed to be rolling her eyes.
"Where is Mr. Wu?" Sun Mei asked her.
"Yes, where is that diva?" asked Jenny, who must have heard Sun Mei's question. "Is he getting out of that dressing room anytime soon?"
Veronica smiled faintly. "He is still trying to negotiate his way out of that costume. I will go check on him. Want to come?" she asked Sun Mei.
Sun Mei looked at Lily hesitantly. Upon realizing that she wasn't going to let go of her mother unless she was forced to, she nodded and followed Veronica.
"This way!"
Veronica walked down a corridor and knocked on a white door.
"Who is it?" asked a muffled voice from the other side that probably belonged to Mr. Wu.
"It's Veronica, Mr. Wu. Please open up!"
"Did you bring me another change of clothes?"
"Yes."
Sun Mei looked curiously at Veronica, who was only holding a notepad.
"Okay, you can come in," answered Mr. Wu, sounding clearly relieved. "It's unlocked."
As soon as they walked in, Sun Mei almost felt her eyes drop out of their sockets.
Mr. Wu was standing in front of the vanity mirror in a pair of tight leather pants. Although he was wearing a white shirt on top, the shirt was mostly sheer and completely unbuttoned. Sun Mei's eyes were attracted to his chest like moths to the light.
"It should be illegal for anyone to be this gorgeous…" she thought.
Meanwhile, Mr. Wu yelled, "Veronica, you traitor!"
