Chapter 85: First task
Ever since Edwin became an animagus he would wonder around the castle or sleep where ever he could, it would be an understatement to say that Edwin loved his animagus form.
As Edwin was talking a cat nap in the common room of the four houses he overheard Hermione and Fred" Fred have you seen Edwin… Well if you do tell him that Hagrid wants to tell him something important"
"I'll tell him mione" Fred replied with a smile" how's it goin with Viktor Krum you two seem like a perfect couple "
Hermione face turned red with the mention of Viktor "Nothing's going on"
"Well that's not what I heard from Ron" Fred replied within interred looked" I heard you two are inseparable like a boggart and it's closet"
"What did Ron Tell you" Hermione shouted grabbing Fred by his robes.
"Take it easy" Fred said moving Hermione and walking back" All he said was look up"
"what, "Hermione asked as she looked above her head to see a ball of water floating" Fred" Hermione shout as the ball of water dropped her but it didn't soak her clothes.
Edwin who got tired of listening to them left the chamber and made his way to Hagrid's hut to see what he wants, Edwin guessed it has something to do with the first task of the Triwizard tournament even though he knew what it will be he still went in case there is a change like with Moody.
"Hagrid" Edwin called knocking at the door.
"Comin "Hagrid shouted opening the door" Oh Edwin glad ya could come so early"
"Hermione said you wanted to see me" Edwin stated to enter the clean hut
"Ah yes ther sumn I gotta show ya" Hagrid said looking around "But ya gotta keep this to yer self ya hear"
"Hagrid" Someone called knocking at the door.
"I'm almost finish Maxime "Hagrid shouted out then whispered "Come on following behind ma but be quite"
"Got it "Edwin replied and waited till Hagrid left with Madam Maxime, he followed not too far behind them but not close enough to hear what they are saying as he didn't wat to eardrop.
"Here we are," Hagrid said showing Madam Maxime three large cages with a dragon in each" aren't they the most beautiful thing yer seen"
Edwin who had done his research on dragons in preparation for the first task could recognize the dragons, there is a Welsh Green dragon, Chinese Fireball, and a Hungarian Horntail.
"Isn't this great" Edwin said to himself sarcastically, after all, Edwin had hoped since Harry wasn't in the tournament there wouldn't be a Hungarian Horntail anymore but seeing the giant lizard with black scales and a wing, there was no doubt that it's a Hungarian Horntail.
Edwin went back to the castle hoping that he won't get the Hungarian Horntail, on his way back he saw the grass moving towards the area where the dragons are being held," Igor" Edwin mutter before turning into a cat.
On the day of the first task just before lunch Edwin was called to meet with the other contestants, wearing the Hogwarts school clothes, and the four houses badge Edwin followed by his friends arrived close to the tent.
As only the contestant could enter the tent they stopped and wished Edwin good luck in their own way before the went to the stands.
"Mr. Vaclav you have kept you waiting," Bartemius crouch Snr said showing Edwin to the center of the tent," the first task is courage… Now you must have the courage to face the unknown but in this case, you must have the courage to face and take a Dragon's egg"
The contestant did their best to act surprised" Now now Bartemius we can't keep the crowd waiting" Ludo said carrying a bag to the contestant "You each have to reach in the bag and grab a dragon and that is the dragon you shall face"
"I have yet to explain the task fully" Bartemius hissed at Ludo who seems too anxious "you shall retrieve an egg similar to this" Bartemus said showing everyone a large golden egg that looked similar to that of a dragon egg.
"you shall receive points for how fast you complete the task but do not rush as points will be deducted for injuries sustain, Points will also be an award for the efficacy in retrieving the egg and I must remind you points will be deducted for damaged eggs"
"Are you finish?" Ludo asked with much attitude" now don't be shy reach in and pick a dragon"
Fleur was the first to reach for a dragon as neither Edwin nor Viktor showed any sign of moving, Fleur pulled her hands out of the bag and showed everyone a miniature green dragon, the dragon she pulled out is the Welsh Green dragon.
"what number is it" Ludo quickly asks.
"Une" Fleur replied.
"Yes, your first" Ludo shouted out.
Edwin and Viktor stood still waiting for the other to go up first," you go "Viktor said with a nod.
"Thanks" Edwin replied reaching into the bag, Edwin tried to feel the shape of the dragon so he wouldn't draw the Hungarian Horntail but they all felt the same to him; leaving everything up to luck Edwin reached into the bag and pulled out the Hungarian Horntail.
"Number three" Edwin mutter looking at the statue.
With two out of the three dragons drawn Viktor quickly reached in and got the Chinese fireball" now each of you will be separated and will wait for your turns" Bartemius said showing everyone out.
"Fleur, Viktor Good luck," Edwin said going into another tent that was made for him.
"I wish you luck Edwin" Viktor replied.
"pleaz be careful," Fleur said before leaving to her tent.
In his tent Edwin could leave until it is his turn, He could still hear the rowing of the crowd watching the other contestants which made his heartbeat louder and fasted unable to keep still Edwin paced back and forward going over his plan of action.
"Edwin it's time," Ludo said opening the tent for Edwin.
As Edwin walked toward the arena that is holding the Hungarian Horntail he heard Ludo announcing his name "For our third and last contestant I present you Hogwarts's Champion Edwin Vaclav who will be challenging the Hungarian Horntail "
The excitement in Edwin died down after he enters the arena" Con-fring-go" Edwin said pointing his wand at the dragon's chest with the spell cast a fiery orange light flew out of his wand hitting the dragon in the chest and an explosion erupted pushing the dragon back and soon a scream followed by fire came out.
Edwin wasn't worried about the dragon fire as it shot up due to the explosion but that didn't mean he stayed the same place, moving to the side Edwin summon a mist and a large quick sandpit not too far from where the dragon is.
When the dragon recover looking at slightly damage scale it charged toward Edwin with a fiery breath that could melt rocks, Edwin quickly moved out of the way barely dodging the fire, the dragon now in the Sandpit could easily get out using its wings but Edwin wouldn't let it" Oculi aestuets"
Edwin cast the spell aiming for the dragon's eyes luckily his time practicing with Snape paid off as he hit the dragon in the eyes causing it to swell, Dragon possesses thick hides that can resist magic to an extent but their eyes couldn't be protected.
To avoid any unnecessary accidents Edwin summoned chains and lock the Hungarian Horntail tail to the ground, as a Hungarian Horntail could kill with its tail alone.
With the Dragon stuck in the quicksand as its eyes is too irritated to fly Edwin simply walked and collect the Golden Egg, Edwin walked out of the arena holding the egg in his hand.
"Edwin" Isabella called out as she hugged Edwin" that was amazing"
Edwin didn't expect that Isabella would hug him but without thinking, he wrapped his arms around her and a smile grew on his face" it wasn't anything"
"Son" Ivan shouted" you did good guess Snape's teaching you will, "Ivan said grabbing Snape shoulder.
"Edwin that was dangerous" Wendy said hugging Edwin" Dangerous but brilliant… your father said it wouldn't be dangerous, what were you thinking attacking a dragon… couldn't have used an invisibility charm?"
"Grandfather, Grandmother," Edwin said seeing his Grandparents with Yasbel clapping as they approached him.
"Well done my boy," Asen said "you make your family proud"
After the judges finish calculating the points, it was announced, Edwin is in the lead followed by Viktor then Fleur, they champions were later called into the tent and were given the hit for the next task.
