Chapter 8: Home

It's been almost an hour. Sans is still asleep. Papyrus is still not back. I'm hanging around by the post, checking up on Sans every minute to see if he's awake. The chilling weather is really getting into me, in a bad way. I was coughing quite a lot know, knowing that I caught myself in a cold.

I was tired from everything that happened just some moments ago, from exploring the Underground, to meeting a group of murderers who wants to rule the world by all means. It was supposed to be a long journey, yet it's such a fast of a journey. I lay my back at the post, with my senseless hands into my pockets, hoping to warm my body up. The sky was endlessly dark, just like a pitch black sheet that covered the sky, so that there would only be night; an eternal eclipse. The thought drifted into my mind as I fell unconscious.

"Child." Toriel said, with her old classic smooth voice.

I tried to say something, but she wouldn't hear me out. I was trapped in a void, my voice unable to be heard.

"You are the last hope. Your choices matter. Please…"

I wanted to say something. That I was fortunate to know her. To know that she cared for me, even when there was dust on me. It hurts me to not say sorry to her because I killed her out of my anger. She stood at the entrance of the Ruins, holding a silhouette of a child's hand.

"Please. Free the Underground from the constant discrimination. Free it from the continuation of war, and attempts of destruction."

Those words I will remember. Always.

"Hey kid."

"Kid? You feeling alright?"

I woke up, with some tears in my eyes.

"Yeah, I'm fine" I wiped my tears away. He didn't seem to notice. "How long was I unconscious for, anyway?"

"Heh. About that." Sans replied, with a disappointed look. "I lost track."

Really. You "lost" track. Irresponsible person.

"Um… I'm sure you don't just lay around here, you gotta have a house somewhere, right?" I asked, hoping for a 'yes' so I don't have to stay in the cold forever.

"Yeah, me and Pap do." Sans gave the definite answer that I want. "It's by a town called Snowdin. Just keep heading forward, you'll see it eventually. The christmas tree should be a dead giveaway." He said with a tired voice, and yawned.

"You're not coming?"

"Nah kid, I got some business around here. Gotta relax for a while. Besides, I gotta meet up with someone."

He walked to the gate, where I entered from after that incident.

"Gate's still shut. That interesting woman." Sans made a quick comment, after trying to open the door. "Heya, you here Tori?"

He's trying to talk to Toriel. Except she's… dead. I quickly think of a diversion, hoping to distract Sans from trying to get into the Ruins, just to see the mess I've created.

"I don't think she's here Sans, She's… probably asleep right now. She must be tired from helping out those monsters in the Ruins." I make up a quick lie.

"Hmm. Seems like you have a point. You know her too, right?"

How did he know?

"Yeah… somewhat."

I feel guilty for lying to Sans about the issue, but sometimes, you can lie to protect people from their fear and danger that will harm themselves. I don't want Sans to worry about this issue anyways. It's my own business, and I'm going to finish it.

"So, you wanna come with me still?" I asked

"Nah. You go on, I'll take another nap."

"Alright then. Make sure to get back before Papyrus worries about you."

"Yeah, yeah. I got it." Sans replied with a drifting voice, falling asleep again.

I left the post, walking across the poorly made bridge by Papyrus. It reminds me of my clumsy self, when I used to try and build anything using wooden planks around my granddad's house. My baby brother would watch me place planks around, making a standard hut, and he would always crawl into the hut, with laughter from his face. Good times, until of course, reality ruins it for me.

Covering my hands into my pockets, I walked towards, pulling my hoodie up, and closing my eyes to feel the wind and snow falling on my shoulders. The feels relaxed my mind a lot, after all of that incident. I felt like I was in my own world, a blank white world, with nothing; no exits, nor entrance.

The void swallows me, to keep me away from being an insane child, crushed by most adults throughout my life that caused me to become who I am right now. All these thoughts caused me to bump into someone. I fell down to the cold snow field. The same goes for the other one.

I pull my hood down, trying to find the best excuse. "Um… I'm so sorry!"

He got back up, brushing the snow away from his scarf. "Human?"

It was Papyrus coming back to his practice to check up on Sans. I barely noticed it was Papyrus, because I covered my vision with my hood so much. It's something that I do a lot when I'm alone, just so I can relax and of course, think about my life.

The thoughts were cut off as Papyrus held his arm out, wanting me to hold his hands. I grabbed his hands, and he pulled me up.

"Human!" Papyrus proclaims with his astounding voice, while checking for my body temperature. "You are pretty sick! Please, allow me to help you." He requested.

"Yeah…" I gave out a weak answer. "That would work."

I passed out, falling into the snow again.

The ghost stood there in a snow covered road, now taking on the identity of Chara. Sans was right, she was a pretty powerful demon, who really wants power, and destruction of the Underground. She stood there, holding a firm grip on the dust-covered knife, facing a figure that reassembles Papyrus.

"Human, there are some complex feelings I really want to talk about. Feelings like having a friend, the laughters that we all shared while together."

Nothing came out of Chara.

"Please human. Stop this madness! I don't want to fight you!"

Papyrus really doesn't like fighting. I can tell by the way he looks and sounds, and how he always prefer talk over violence.

But, where is Sans? His brother is about to get demolished by Chara, and he's not there to help him out, at all?

A slash was heard, Noises stopped. Birds stopped chirping, and flew away into the dark sky, looking for another promising spot to relax on.

Papyrus body slowly turns to dust. His head remains there, with a disbelief look.

Chara laughs, and laughs, and laughs. Each time it was getting worse.

"Human. I still believe in you!" Papyrus yells, with tears in his eyes

Again. Nothing came out of her mouth. She stood there, looking at the poor little Papyrus. She stepped on the skull, crushing Papyrus into dust. Completely.

The only thing left of his was his long red scarf, just laying on the snow.

Chara leaves, with a big smile across her face.

"Your next. Noob"

I woke up feeling like I just took a flat out "cold-bullet", and laying down on a bed, right next to a set of windows. The snowy weather weakens my body, and makes me feel tired, and sick. The noises of rattling and loud conversations kept me awake, until Papyrus came back with some snacks to make me feel better.

"Sans! The human's awake! What do I do?" He shouted out of the door, nervous about taking care of a human. Seeing a human after 6 years is kind of weird for monsters to adapt, especially for someone that is caring as Papyrus.

"I'm coming Pap, hold on." Sans replied, with a casual voice.

"This is an emergency, Sans! Please, get up here!" Papyrus begs.

"Alright, bro." Sans replied, walking up the stairs, going into the room.

I gave out a faded smile. "It's just a cold, guys."

"A very serious apparently." The lazy skeleton nods, while checking my temperature with a thermometer. He laughs, and showed Papyrus the temperature. He screamed.

"Sans. Is the human about to die?" Papyrus screamed in fear.

"No, bro," Sans calmed him down, "His temperature is lower than usual. looks like he caught himself a cold. Just need time to rest, and relax in a normal weather. The one he's used to."

I didn't understand what he meant by "used to", but I'm pretty sure he's referring to the surface. The home that I used to be, before the Underground adopted me. Now, I'm being taken care of by the skeleton brothers, and making connections with the monsters, besides that… aggressive encounter.

I would always take care of myself, because no one ever understood me, not even myself. My parents never cared for me, or looked at me as a son. I never cared for myself either, as I would only do things that would harm myself. The light of hope was dimmed for me. I never found what life truly means, or the importance of my existence.

This is the home I wanted, but never got. If only I've found this type of environment, I would've been much better, not broken and tormented from the beginning.

"So Sans, the human should be alright?"

"Yep. Just lie down and rest for a while kid." He said with a sarcastic manner. "I'll go to Gribby's for a moment. Take care of the kid for a while." Sans said, walking out of the room. A soft slam was heard.

Papyrus sighs, placing the snacks on the table. "Human, I'm sure you'll get better! Just rest, and I, the Great Papyrus, will take care of the rest!"

"Thanks, Papyrus. It really means a lot." I replied, coughing.

"Wowie! A human complimented me!" He blushes.

I closed my eyes after he said that. I was too tired after that dream.
