Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - The Star

I remember seeing the look she gave me for the first time. It was the most magical thing in the world. Because the shooting star reflected off of her eyes making it look has if... she truly was the star.

She rushed over to me and grabbed my hands, "Seth!" She said in a very enlightened voice "We should do something tomorrow!"

My heart skipped a beat. I dont think I have ever felt this way about someone. I dont know what this feeling is. All I did in that situation was tip my words to not make sense. No matter how hard I tries I couldnt make out a, yes or no.

"Lola! Where are you?" Someone yelled out her name. It must have been her mother calling for her.

"Coming! And over here!" She yelled back to her, and let go of my hands to wave back at her. She turned back to me once her mother noticed us. "Seth! Let's head downtown, tomorrow, since its Saturday, and we dont have school, let's go do something fun!"

Even if I said no, I could tell she wouldnt except my answer. I had no excuse that I could give her to get out of this situation. "I- uh-"

"Alright good!" She didnt even want to hear a no clearly, because she cut me off before I could even make up an excuse "I'll knock on your door in the morning. I have to go though, talk to you tomorrow!" She turned around, it almost felt like it was in slow motion has that long hair flipped in the wind.

I didnt even know what happened to me just then, but for some reason my heart was still beating like crazy. It was almost painful. I unlocked my door and walked in closing it behind me. "I'm home!" I yelled out and took my shoes off. I dont know why I keep saying that, because there will never be a day I'll get a reply with "welcome home." For some odd reason that didnt bother me has much today, maybe because my heart was still hurting. Or it was just me over thinking what was going on.

I soon cleared up my head and went to the kitchen and went to the fridge. Nothing. I dont remember the last time I used the fridge, I dont know why I went to it to begin with, I always go out to eat... Alone. I went back to the door and put my shoes back on and walked to the supermarket. It wasn't too far away but still a twenty minute walk. I picked up a lot for some reason. I dont go out shopping alot because it expensive, so when I do I always buy cheap foods. Stuff like rice, on sale meats, breads, anything that is on sale I will buy. I get most of my flavoring from spices, because I can no longer taste anything. The reason I get spice is because there is a feeling in my mouth. I dont remember when I lost my taste for foods, but I know it was soon after my parents left me. I guess I havent told the story yet. My parents are dead. My mother died giving birth to me, and my father died from suicide. The note he left me on my twelfth birthday was "Dont be sad that I'm away, I know you will grow to be better then me, I'm to much of a coward to take care of you, but I know you can do it yourself. If you ever decide to have kids, dont end it they way I did, please. Your mother would be so proud of you, she gave her life for yours." That was the last I ever heard from him. He left me with the house, and the money. I leave his room untouched has I feel it is better that way.

I bought things in bulk today. The total price was around three hundred dollars. I dont know why I spent that much but I did, and I bought so much. Walking home wasn't easy, it was heavy on my shoulders, but for some reason I kept to it and kept going on. When I got to my door, I rushed into the kitchen and dropped everything on the floor. I was so exhausted from it. I looked over at the clock and it looked like it took me an hour to get back, I dont know what made me take so long but it did. I got a knock on my door after I was done filling my fridge. My mind went blank has I walked over to the door and opened it. "Can I help you ma'am?"

She was decent looking, but she was a little old, maybe in her late fifties or early fifties. "Hello, I'm Sarah. I'm lola's mother, I was just wondering if you would like to come over for dinner. It would be nice to meet you and your parents if you would like" She was really calm and her voice was very mature.

"I'm sorry but my parents are not in the house right now, and I dont mind comming over, I just have to put a few things away" I replied with such a calm voice, I dont know what came over me, for some reason I had the courage to talk to her almost like a real person. Maybe because she had that mother vibe I miss so much, or the fact that it was to eat with people again for once.

"Alright I'll see you at the house then" She smiled and walked down the steps to my door and walked back to her house.

It didnt take me long to pack up, I just had a few things to put away. I dont know why but my heart was once more hurting. It started to feel comforting, it didnt last long though. I manned up after putting everything away and walked out the door. Their house was quiet huge actually. All together it was probably three storys, counting an upstairs and a downstairs. Most of the houses here have a downstairs except for ours, my father wanted it to be that way so we were different from everyone. I walked up to the door and knocked without hesitation for some reason. Lola instantly answered in nothing but a long t-shirt. She clearly was not expecting me. She blushed with red and closed the door almost immediately has she released it was me. I could hear her run downstairs. Her mother answered the door, laughing slightly.

"That's the first I've seen her flustered like that, it seems you are the same way" she giggled. I was blushing, it almost felt like my face was completely red. "Well come in I'll show you where the dinner table is." She opened the door all the way and walked into the living room. I followed behind her taking my shoes off at the door and closing the door behind me. It was a pretty fancy table. it could hold at least eight people. I heard slightly yelling from a kid, I couldnt tell by the voice if it was a boy or a girl.

"Mom! Is food done?" The child yelled down

"Yes it is! Come help set the table!" She yelled up to the child, has she said that footsteps starting to come down. It was a little boy, no older then five. He paused looking at me.

"Mom who is this?" He pointed at me, he clearly doesnt know manners, but I will let it slide.

"Michael! Do not point at our guest. This is our neighbor-" She clearly didnt know my name and looked over at me. She bowed her head a little to say sorry and to say my name.

"My name is Seth" I signaled her to not bow her head to me has she went back to the kitchen to finished making food.

The kid almost lit up the room has ran over to me "Hi Seth! I'm Michael! Do you like these toys!" He yelled at me with excitement and showed me his toys. One of them was an evangelion action figure, the other was a toy truck.

Oh yeah, by the way I'm a huge Otaku, or rather I just watch to much anime. "They are very cool Michael. Its nice to meet you"

His face put on a huge smile and ran back up stairs, he must have put them away because he ran right back down and started setting up the plates and silverware.

The mother yelled down stairs "Lola! Come up already you are making our guest wait" She looked over at me with a smile. "Dont worry she is just so excited for tomorrow, she was talking to me ab-" She got cut off by Lola grabbing her mouth to make sure she doesnt say anything, I didnt evem notice her running up the stairs she was that fast.

Lola laughed and changed the subject almost immediately. "So, what's for dinner Mom?" She let go of her to let her answer, Sarah had a huge smile on her face and walked to the kitchen.

"We are having chicken filled with cheese and ham." She walked over with a hot pan and placed it onto the middle of the table. It looked amazing. Perfectly golden on top, with mash potatoes around it. she also pulled out some brown gravy that looked amazing jas well.

Lola walked over to the table and sat across from me, she looked up to me and immediately looked down to the floor with a slight blush. She changed out of the t-shirt into a polo and jeans. It look surprising good on her. The brother sat down at the end to my right, while the mother sat down at the end to my left. The kid still had a huge smile on his face, I could tell he liked my complement I gave him to his toys.

"The food looks amazing" I said to Sarah. She gave me a smile and told everyone to dig in. There was four main courses, but a lot of mash potatoes in case someone didnt get full from the main course. I didnt grab a lot, I would have felt bad grabbing a lot. Lola on the other hand could eat, it almost looked like she took half of the potatoes on her plate, she probably didnt have to worry to much about her weight because it all went to other places that just made her look better. Her mother on the other hand did not let her take all the mash potatoes and took half of what she toon back to the bowl. The brother didnt take anything out the main course. The mother had everything that was on the table, but not a lot of it either.

"So Seth" She turned to look at me while everyone was eating "Why couldnt your parents come? I never see a car in the driveway, are they away on business?" My heart sunk. I didnt want to make the dinner awkward, but lola stopped eating has soon as she heard my parents weren't home.

I did not know what to respond with and it kind of took me a long time to answer, but before I could answer Lola's mother clearly saw my face say everything.

"I'm sorry to hear that." She replied and kept eating, the room was silent.

Did I say something? I dont remember saying anything, I couldnt have said anything. My thoughts were answered however by Lola and Michael both saying at the same time. "He didnt say anything though" the mother laughed slightly, it brightened the room.

She replied back with "Once you become closer to Seth maybe he will tell you, a mother can see everything" I wish I could have brought my parents now.

Lola reacted with the biggest blush ever "Mom!" She replied back to her mother. The mother just giggled slightly.

Dinner went on pretty calmly after that. Every now and again I would get some question, such has what was my faviote food, animal, color, etc. The dinner was just has delicious has it looked, I left with a full enough stomach to feel. I stood up from the table after the mother collected all of the dirty dishes.

"I'm sorry to say but I should probably start going now. Thank for the food Sarah, it was very delicious, you are a very impressive cook" I pushed in my chair in. I wish I could have tasted the food, it really did look amazing.

"Oh I'll walk you out" Lola stood up and walked over to me. She walked me to the door and opened it for me once I got my shoes on.

"Thanks for letting me over to eat" I said to her has I walked out the door.

"Hey um" she closed the door and walked over to me "Where are your parents?" She clearly had a lot of thoughts going on in her head. But for some reason those eyes she gave me made me tell the truth to her.

"They are... dead" My face sunk to the floor almost. She was very surprised by my answer.

"I'm so sorry" She hugged me. I didnt know how to react in this situation. My heart was beating but for some reason. I started to cry. That was the first time I cried since I was twelve. She felt warm, I could tell she was holding back her tears has well. She had such a beautiful heart with her. I cleared up my tears, and tapped on her to let go of me. "Oh s-sorry" She blushed "I'll see you tomorrow Seth" She ran back into the house and closed the door.

My heart was beating like crazy, it felt has if I was getting a heart attack. A heart attack that wish I could kill me, but is not strong enough. I walked home and just dropped into my bed with no expressions.

I woke up at midnight, to the same dream I've been having. I walked over to the window to see Lola staring at me. She said something, but the dream muffled it out. I ignored it and looked at the sky, that was once breaking. This time, the sky broke into stars around Lola. And this time, another piece of my sky was rebuilt.
