Chapter 3: Fight!

Jaune's eyes widened into a considerable size. The name that flashed onto the board was perhaps one of the worst ones to show up.

Ruby's sister.

Just yesterday, Ruby had introduced her team to Jaune's own and they seemed to hit it off quite well.

Each one of those girls were both quirky and had their own ideals and personal wonders. As for Yang Xiao Long?

Well, she was at heart, a warrior!

Jaune had seen her jump into a Giant Nevermore's mouth, shoot bullets down it throat and jump back out.

Jaune was sure that his physical prowess was unable to even keep up to her. He doubted he could even stand up to a single hit of hers which could punch Grimm to oblivion.

"Sigh. This is going to be a pain." Jaune muttered, looking nervous.

Fortunately however, Pyrrha, his partner was happy to ease his nerves. She punched his arm playfully and nodded her head to him.

"You got this Jaune!"

"Yeah, Fearless leader. Break her le-"

"Nora, you shouldn't encourage Jaune in that manner. Sorry about her, Jaune. Anyways, try to dodge around her attacks and you'll be fine." Ren interrupted.

"Aw come on Ren." Nora pouted, slightly.

"Heh, Thanks pal." Jaune's eyes gained a slight gleam of excitement. He cracked his neck and made his way towards the arena.

On the way to the ring, he saw team RWBY encouraging Yang in the fight as well.

"Good Luck Yang." Blake, the girl dressed in black and white with a bow on her head nodded.

"I don't need luck. I make my own destiny!" Yang grinned

"Sure." Blake rolled her eyes

"Hmph! That blond dunce shouldn't hold a candle to you." Weiss, the girl dressed in a fashionable white combat dress told off.

"Kinda rude, dontcha' think Weiss?" Ruby case to Jaune's defense.

"Oh please." She scoffed slightly.

"See ya guys after I win." Yang waved and jumped towards the ring.

It was most likely that the fight was going to be one that he was going to lose but Jaune was certain that he would at least be able to learn from this experience. He had to do the best he could because if he didn't... his career as a huntsman was over.

Soon his feet reach the inside of the arena and his opponent laid bare before him, limbering up. Her long hair and outfit seemed to sway in the non existent wind, her muscles taught with anticipation.

See, similarly how Jaune had seen Yang jump into the Giant Nevermore's mouth during initiation, Yang had seen Jaune deflect attacks from the Death stalker.

While she wasn't particularly impressed, she had to admit that it was impossible for someone without training to accomplish that.

She might seem hotheaded and tended to rush blindly into situation but Yang was never one to underestimate an opponent. Although Jaune was slightly scrawny in build, it was most likely the case that he had better... skills?

Yeah...

It seemed that she would never come realize that all of Jaune 'accomplishments' were based upon luck. If it wasn't for Pyrrha snagging his hood with her spear, he would have died. What's more, if she hand't have unlocked his aura, he would have... you guessed it, died.

Jaune's brow developed a hint of perspiration glancing at Yang's form. Nervous from the fight ahead, Jaune merely decided that he would try his best. It was all he could offer, after all.

Without wasting anymore time, he adjusted his sheath, popping the hidden shield into view. He held his sword parallel towards the ground, pointing it at Yang in preparation.

After a moment, his scroll which was attached to the back of his shield displayed both his own aura and that of his opponent.

"Are you both ready?" Professor Goodwitch called out to the two combatants. Seeing their nods, she started the countdown on the big screen.

FIGHT!

Instantly, Yang sprinted forwards, her powerful muscles enhanced further by Aura brought her flying towards Jaune's still form.

She cocked her arm back to prepare a fist.

'Fast!' Jaune cried out in his mind. Her speed was incredible. Jaune barely had time to angle his shield to try to deflect her strike.

Yang however smirked at Jaune's action. The arm she cocked back rocketed forwards with the force of a cannon but it wasn't aimed at Jaune. Instead her arm shot towards the direction of the arena floor instead.

Boom!

The shotgun shell in her gauntlet blasted out, propelling her body upwards and above Jaune shield. She flipped over his form and while in midair, angled her leg downward to kick the back of his head.

The force of her strike sent him plummeting forwards and onto the ground.

Jaune's eyebrows scrunched into a frown. This wasn't good. He couldn't track her movements. She was much faster than he could even react to.

'Think, Jaune, think!' Jaune shouted in his mind.

Seemingly sensing something behind him, he clumsily tried to roll forwards. Fortunately, he managed to avoid Yang's follow up blow.

He spun forwards towards Yang only to see a fist heading straight towards his face.

Boom!

The punch was accompanied by a shotgun blast. The force from the attack sent him flying back, rolling across the floor until he came to a stop.

He coughed out slightly, rubbing his cheek.

Quickly, he got to his feet trying his best to keep Yang in vision. Fortunately however, she hadn't moved from her spot.

She gave him time to recover, for some reason.

Perhaps she had finally realized that Jaune wasn't very strong or perhaps she liked to fight fairly and didn't particularly enjoy kicking someone while they were down?

Whatever the case, Jaune was grateful for the pause.

Just those two hits were enough to derail his confidence. He wasn't looking forward to getting hit anymore.

Unfortunately however...

She outclassed him. Speed, strength, dexterity, Battle prowess, combat adaptability, close quarters combat proficiency.

Ever essential aspect of a hunter, Yang seemed to posses.

All which he didn't have. Because he was a fraud. This wasn't an exemplary situation, to say the least. How would he counter her?

Before Jaune could think much further onto a working tactic, Yang called out to him.

"That was just a little warm up. "

"What?" Jaune responded slightly grim.

"Now, its time for the fun to begin!" Yang grinned, her smile seemingly lighting up the world around her for a moment.

Yang pointed her gauntlets behind her and jumped forwards. Her weapons shot out shell, propelling her towards Jaune at and even faster speed than before.

This time however, Jaune reacted faster than before.

Various thoughts flashed through his mind. Each, an idea of how to defeat Yang. He couldn't beat her in speed nor would he be able to beat her in strength.

Her combat capabilities far exceeded his and she had a special aspect that few people seemed to have.

She was a genius at combat.

So how would HE be able to combat that? In reality, he wouldn't be able to do so. However he had a weapon which Yang didn't have. That weapon was called... a shield!

In truth, he only needed to do one thing,

Block!

Yang brought both her arms forward and tilted her right side backwards, cocking her right arm backwards.

Yang's speed was much faster than Jaune could properly react to but react he nonetheless did. Her punch was practically a force of nature.

It slammed heavily into his shield, launching him backwards painfully. Jaune coughed out slightly. The punch had also served to force the air out of his lungs.

It was terrible.

Yang, this time didn't give Jaune any time of reprieve. She started taking the battle up to a higher notch.

Kicks and punches rang out like machine gun blows, they slammed heavily against his shield. For some reason, Yang wasn't maneuvering to attack him omnidirectionally any more.

The main reason was because she believed Jaune wouldn't fall for the same trick twice. It was funny in some ways, believing that your opponent was much stronger than they truly were.

If Yang knew that Jaune couldn't even keep up with her speed, she would have been far more punishing.

However, it seemed that she was starting to realize this fact. Mostly because Jaune hadn't attacked her once. All he had done was block and even that seemed kind of shoddy.

'Not good. I can't move my arm away or she's going to pummel me into oblivion! If only my reaction speed was faster!' Jaune shouted out in his mind.

Yang finally grew tired of punching and kicking at his shield. In a bout of pure strength, she grabbed at his shield and held it in place.

Jaune's eyes widened when she hefted his body up, using the straps of his shield to her advantage. Before he could react to struggle out of her hold, however, she shouted out!

"I call this move, Slingshot Supreme!"

"Uh- Aaaahhh!" Jaune screamed.

The next moment, Jaune's body was thrown into the air like a rag doll. He flailed for a moment but was greeted to a horrifying sight from below.

Yang propelled herself upwards using her gauntlets and readied her fist. As her body reached Jaune's in the air, she launched it towards his gut, angling it perfectly so his body would crash into the arena floor.

Boom!

Jaune crashed heavily against the arena floor. He coughed out in pain and struggled to stand to his feet, staggering as he did so.

Yang once again gave him some time to rest.

Jaune gave a quick glance towards his scroll. It showed that his aura had reached an all time low of 37%.

If it reached the red zone, 20%, the match would be over. It was only a matter of time.

Jaune looked back at Yang, a hint of acceptance glanced upon his features. Yang frowned slightly as she witnessed this.

"Jaune, why aren't you fighting back? You're only blocking my attacks which is slowing lowering your aura value. It's kinda boring to win like this..." Yang muttered out the last part.

Jaune felt slightly bad.

Here was a huntsman who had put in a lot of time and effort to get accepted into a prestigious school like beacon and here he was, a fraud of a student that lied his way to get in. Sure, he would most definitely become huntsman material within a few years but right now, he wouldn't be a match for any of them and the worst part was that he...

Wouldn't even allow any of them to learn from fighting him.

'Dammit. If only I could react to her attacks! Im too slow!' Jaune cried out in his mind.

"I... erm, Im training myself to be able to block any and all attacks with absolute efficiency before properly attacking." Jaune gave off an excuse.

"You are? But, you look like you're about to keel over." Yang frowned, slightly tilting her head in curiosity.

"Its-Its a w-work in progress?" Jaune finished lamely, catching his breath.

"Sure... well, if that's the case, I might as well learn how to break past defenses more easily. Thanks for this, its gonna help me out a little."

'Shit.'

"Here I come!" Yang shouted as she propelled herself forwards.

'I can't see her!' Jaune shouted in his mind as Yang seem to teleport behind him in a bout of pure speed. Her arm moved forwards to punch his jaw and end the match.

'If-If only my eyes were fast enough to see her!' Jaune shouted out in his mind, secretly praying for a Deus Ex Machina to occur.

And true enough.

One such thing did occur.
