Chapter 18: Local Viands
They went to the 'Home of the big Cats' where residing 8 Bengal tigers, 6 white lions 2 leopards and other kinds of cats that can be seen in other places in the Philippines and foreign countries.
"Good day visitors! Welcome to the home of the big cats! You may go near at them and have some photographs!" happily greeted by the worker in the zoo.
They went beside the resting white lion on a stone with his neck chained.
"I'll take the pictures of your group ma'am," the worker said to Patty and she gave her camera to him.
"There's no need to worry about getting bitten because these big cats were tamed by animal caretakers." the worker insured the visitors.
After the moment at the home of the big cats, they proceed to an open field where ostriches, spotted deers, and donkeys roam around freely to interact with them. They patted the animals head as they come close to their group.
The group also went to look for the 'safari gallery' of the owner of the zoo. The wall was full of display preserved wild animals that the owner hunted from foriegn countries.
Girlie (Trixie's fake named by Patty) strike a pose at the Baluarte signage where surrounded by towering dinosaur figures.
"At last! I'm starving! I want to join the spotted deers eating grass" with the exhausted face, Girlie protested her companions that she's hungry.
"Let's go outside. There were food stalls aligned there." Ericson said. The group headed out and stop at one of the food stall.
"Hello ma'am, sir, have a seat and choose what's your order." the middle aged woman said. She open all her casseroles filled with different local viands.
"What are these dishes aunty?" Mona asked with curiosity in her face as she looked at the casseroles one by one.
"These are the local viands her in the city maam, you should try my 'pipian' it was cooked chicken and pazotes with ground rice."
"okey aunty. ill try that."
"Why not try all the dishes aunty cooked" Tyler suggested and all of them agreed.
The aunty serve a bowl of every dishes she have in her stall.
"What do you call this one aunty?" Tyler asked her after tasting the bowl of soup infront of him.
"That's what we called Lumo. It was a soup made with pork blood, pork tenderloin and green onions."
"How about this one aunty?" Ericson asked.
"Its sinanglao cooked with beef broth with beef innards."
"what do you called this mashed eggplant with egg aunty?" Girlie asked
"It's what we called Poqui-poqui"
"Is this a beef stew aunty?" Asked Mona after she tasted the dish infront of Ericson.
"Yes it is! We called it caldereta here"
"I like the taste of it aunty." Mona said complementing the aunty with her cooking.
"Oh my! I think this one dish here was made for bitter persons." Girlie said after tasting the last bowl.
The aunty gigled at her statement,"It's 'pinapaitan' ma'am. It is a bitter meat dish made with beef and goat bile and innards" the aunty explained.
"Wow. it's really for bitter one's. hahaha" Mona said agreeing to Girlie said.
"enjoy eating ma'am sir"
And that, they enjoyed eating the viands infront of them. Especially Girlie.
