Chapter 42: Kala Mandi
What is love? Is it a myth? Or something precious? Precious what? A moment? A time? A feeling? Or collective moments in unknown time with few feelings and touches. With long deep breaths Luna Bien, thinking about her mandate marriage life. She and her husband were childhood sweethearts, in middle of poorness they married each other at the age of 16. From then to now, they were never been separated but after so many years when she is waiting for her only son and daughter at her home, she is wondering did they ever were in love or it's just a easy way out from their poor family.
Luna still has no idea about how they were in love because now it seems a simple negotiation between a boy and a girl to runaway from their miserable low life. Africa is beautiful place but the life of most of the people are in hardship. Her husband Hammond Bien is a storekeeper. He leaves every 6 o'clock in the morning, drinks only a black sugarless coffee with a homemade flatbread. Then return come back to her at 10 o'clock at night. Only Sunday is her time with him. Everyday is the same schedule routine life from the day she married him. They got married by themselves. From then to now same old routine lifestyle nothing changed only they have two beautiful children now with her to spend time. They took are getting busy now at their school. From 7 to 4 they stays at school only weekend is their break time.
It's lonely time but household work keeps her busy. Today it's a cloudy day Heavy rainfall can be expected. She lives between several families like them. No one bothers anyone just a life in a two peddle cycle, earn and pay, eat and sleep nothing more to think or do.
In this mundane life, she met a very kind person who lives in pleasing women like her. A man like this can exist is out of her imagination. Kala Mandi is that man. Every first day of the week, Monday, he comes to deliver their listed needs that they requested him to get for them from the city. It's not easy from here to go all the way to the city. It's a very long way in a broken paved road.
Today is that day to visit them. She doesn't know that if he is married or not but he is very calm man, quiet and gentle. She never spoke to him about his family and life but he is not that talkative either.
Luna thinking about talking with him today. She is quite curious about his wellbeing.
At last, the heavy clouds that was hanging on the sky from the dawn she was waiting to fall starts to rain. She is feeling relaxed because of heavy rainfall, the cold breezy air from the rain made her home comfy and cozy.
She made a coffee for herself and Mandi if he comes she will offer him, it's heavy raining, he will feel better. It's 10.30 a.m. she slowly finished her cup of coffee, no electricity because of heavy rain, she is walking like a careful cat to her kitchen to wash the coffee cup. All of a sudden, someone grabbed her from back, knocked her down as she thinks while she is in her conscious, she couldn't even scream because it's impossible for her to think like that what she never thought about that it can be possible in her 20 years of marriage life.
When she came to her senses, she has nothing in her body, her head is spinning and hurting still, she can't think about what just happened to her, everything is as same as she last kept but only Mandi's coffee cup is empty. It's just 12.00 p.m. After 10 minutes of sitting on her sofa where the unknown left her , she got back to her bathroom for a warm bath, it's quite chilly weather after all. She can't tell what just happened to her, raped or molested or thugged. She found herself naked without any bruises on the body or anything particular. She is completely fine. As she is not feeling like she is wrongly used by anyone, she decided not to tell about the incident just happened to her to Hammond.
Luna not going to bother about the thing that she is not sure what just happened. Hammond is very sweet and kind person that she married at her 16 th birthday when everyone is busy to leave their house.
Kala Mandi didn't came that day because of heavy rain so as others were said to her.
After that horrible day, a month later, Luna found out that she is with a third child, a sad joyful tears came down from her eye that moment because she is not sure whose child is this. Her husband made love with her from that mysterious horrible day till now.
