Chapter 8: “Words will never harm me” is a Lie

Isabella felt a tickle around her ear but she passed it off as nothing important. But the when she heard the voice, it scared her.

"You can't ditch me that easily, you know." It was deep, sounded a bit seductive.

Her immediate reaction was to slap who ever was there with whatever was in her hand.

It just so happened that she had her History of Magic book in her hand.

And that the person behind her was Potter.

She quickly turned around, not giving Potter a chance to completely dodge her attack.

But he did manage to step back a little.

Nick didn't expect her to slap him with a book. He expected her to be startled, but definitely not this much.

And who ever said that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me" was clearly joking, or perhaps just downright lying. Because that book freaking hurt.

"Owww!" Nick yelled as the book hit him. He put his hand on his cheek. 'My poor dear handsome face....' he thought.

"Oh gosh." Isabella said, when she realized who it was. "Are you ok?" She removed his hand from his cheek and looked at it.

"Well seeing as I just got hit by a book, I'm surprisingly fine." He replied.

"You might have a minor bruise..." she said as she touched it. His cheek was starting to turn bit purple.

"Ouch, don't touch it!" He said, swatting her hand away. It genuinely hurt.

"You deserve that for sneaking up on me!" Isabella said, crossing her arms.

"Alright, alright, I suppose you have a tiny bit of reasoning there.... But that's really no reason to hit me with a book... is it?"

Then Isabella raised the book as if she was going to hit him again.

"Ok ok! Don't!" He took a step back from her. She almost laughed.

Jane and Philip were watching the two of them bicker for while before Jane spoke up.

"We're going to go ahead to the table, just meet us there when you're done...."

Isabella nodded in agreement. Then she turned back to Nick.

"Ok then, we'll I'll go now..." but it didn't seem like he was leaving.

"Not so fast, 'mademoiselle'" He said, just as she was starting to walk away.

"Ok first off your French sucks. It's 'mah-d mwah zelle', not 'mad- moss- elle'. Second, I really should catch up with my friends." She snapped at him. Her french accent became clearer since she was getting frustrated.

"Ok sorry, 'Mademoiselle'. What do you have against me?"

"Oh well I don't know... maybe the fact that you're simply just annoying? Also you're still not saying it right."

"I can't win with you, can I?" He yelled at her as she walked away (and this time he wouldn't stop her).

"Nah. Don't be late to the library." She said as she waved at him.

Not once looking back at him.

"What was the hold up?" Mira asked her, when she reached the table.

"Potter being his normal, annoying self." Isabella said. She was too hungry to say anything else.

And that bouillabaisse (a French seafood stew) was calling to her. She was starving.

"She hit him with a book." Jane finally said after about a minute.

Michelle choked on her orange juice. Samuel was patting her back as she coughed. Adam dropped the fork in his hand.

Once Michelle caught her breath (and waved away Samuel's questioning if she was ok) she said-

"You did what?!"

Everyone looked at Isabella, waiting for details.

"It wasn't on purpose! Ok well sort of. He snuck up behind me, it was just my immediate response. But I don't regret it, he certainly deserved it." She sputtered out.

"Well, props to you, girl." Michelle said, but she was a little disappointed. She had wished that she was the one that had hit that big headed Potter.

With that, no one asked anything else.

The rest of the day went by fast. Defense against the Dark Arts was interesting. They were reading about 'Boggarts'. Creatures that showed your biggest fear when you confronted them. Next week they would be practicing with a real one.

"I'm off to the library, see you afterwards!" She said to Mira and Adam as they headed up to the common room. Mira had already explained to Adam about Isabella "tutoring" Nick.

Isabella sighed. Off to help Potter she went. Fate wasn't very kind to her, she thought.
