Chapter 50: Summerhouse

A black car drove up a hill while wobbling up and down like a drunken man. The street wasn't refurbished and consisted mainly out of gravel and made a very bumpy ride.

There was another road leading up the hill, yet the owner of the car choose this road, since the other one was longer and would cost more time, and he was in a hurry, so for their bad luck they could only take this one and had to be flung around like in an amusement park.

In the backseat of the car there sat a man with his arms shrugged close to his body and a pensive look edged on his face with deeply furrowed brows.

His blond hair was gelled back and his blue eyes gleamed with a sharp light, that in the opinion of the poor driver, bored through him like needles, cursing him out why he couldn't drive faster in this bad sanitised backwater dump.

He is sorry ok!! But any faster and they will be thrown off the road and won't be going anywhere!!

The man in the backseat was no one other than Sasha, he and his man -behind him were two more cars- were on their way to the last destination where Emilié could be; the summerhouse where Jane, Emil's (ex)wife lived.

This morning Sasha got a report back from his soldiers, who were out searching the surrounding of the summerhouse -which was a big forest- that even after searching throughout the night to till the morning, not even a whiff of Emilié or her kidnappers were found.

Thinking back to the the shaking soldier reporting him word for word how they were once again fruitless, Sasha clenched and unclenched his jaw many times and a visible blue vein started popping out his temple, what the poor driver saw from the rear mirror and broke out in cold sweat.

Ay ay, the driver really wants to cry, why does he alway lose in drawing lots?

It's drawing lots!! There is a fair chance for everybody, but why does he always draw the losing one.

He made the first report to Sasha after the day Emilié was kidnapped, and showed him in a bad way that his, Sasha's personal trained man, were completely useless in finding a little girl, and then he had to mention the summerhouse, which didn't come well...

He even was the one who had to report this morning!!! Now he is even the driver!!

What drawing lots?! His god d*mn comrats must have tricked him!

Pfui, they must be jealous of him!

He was the only one in their ranks with a loving girlfriend waiting for him at home.

Yes that must be it, jealousy!

Finally the arduous ride has an end when a white house appeared in their view.

The driver drove to the front porch and without waiting for the car to come to a halt Sasha jumped out scaring the shit out the driver.

Driver: ToT can I go back home?

...

Jane was inside preparing breakfast when she heard loud motor sounds nearing.

Emil was standing next to her stealing one of the cut fruits and popped them in his mouth.

Jane looked at him with a questioning brow ignoring him stealing from her breakfast.

Emil chewed leisurely with squinted eyes seemingly enjoying his loot. "Probably Sasha deciding to make his last attempt."

"Attempt?"

"If he doesn't find Emilié here he will give up on her. He will be in the 'clear' that a continuation of the search will bring nothing, since in his mind we must be long gone from his search radius and finding us is impossible." He swallowed down and continued apathetically, even though his lover was outside throwing himself in front of his doorstep.

He reached out his sticky fingers to take another fruit slice, but was intercepted by the soft hand of Jane and showed away. "It's weird. Sasha has control of the sky way, the sea route and the borders, does he not? How come he can't find someone as stupid as you?"

Emil puckered his lips in indignation, he would love to retort, yet he answered her question properly.

"He does control them, that's why we're not out the country. If we hadn't had Emilié in tow we'd had taken the sky way before he'd realize, but she was with us, so we settled down to take care of her first. And the reason why Sasha knows or thinks we're still in the country and in his territory is, because he can see who took the air and water ways and gets reported if weird people pass through the borders."

"Then, since no report was send from the border of unnatural activities he assumes you guys must be here." Jane's brow was yet again up but in an assured manner, giving her an air of arrogance. "Since Sasha would NEVER visit me."

"Yep" Emil nodded trying to steal one more slice but was once again deflected with a pinch on his arm. "Agh"

"Instead of hampering like a wailing child go hide. I'll deal with Sasha."

....

Before Sasha unscrupulously stormed in the house, Jane opened the front door and came eye to eye with him.

Sasha seeing Jane after all the years froze losing all the momentum he build up during the drive.

He told himself he would be professional and not let the feelings of guilt interfere in anyway, however facing her made his mind a whirling mess.

What should he say to her?

Sorry I destroyed your marriage, took your man, got him somehow killed and you almost died too and never visited you in the hospital or even there after when you woke up from coma, since I was too busy to take revenge over some people whose face I never in my life saw!

And what if he is truly fruitful in his search and finds Emilié here?

Shall he rip her away from this woman and talk her down for her immoral act of kidnapping his child?

How was it even possible for her to kidnap Emilié from a heavily guarded party?

All this made his heart sink in the pits of his stomach, yet not one of his insecurities seeped through his stony mask.

"What surprise cousin-in-law, haven't known you'd be visiting me this early in the morning with no invitation." Jane broke his messy thoughts initiating first a conversation, a gentle smile appeared on her face that didn't reach her eyes at all. "May I ask with what honor, fate lead you here to me?"

While they had their weird standoff the driver from before jogged to their sides catching on to Jane's question.

Seeing his boss not answering, this energetic cute driver just interjected himself in the conversation without being asked, thinking his boss would surely praise him taking lead of the situation and navigating it to his wished outcome.

"Hello ma'am, we are here with a search warrant allowing us to search in this area." He pulled out some papers out his inner pocket showing it her with a cutsy smile, not noticing the looming block of stone next to him.

"There are some bad people roaming about the place and intel tell they must be here in the near, so our duty forces us for the safety of our citizens to take precautions and search your home to see they're not hiding anywhere."

"Hmm.. bad people you say." She hummed with a mocking underton, glancing up from the papers to Sasha.

"Yes ma'am bad people" confirmed the driver energetically, gaining another piercing glare from the side.

The driver was lost in his enthusiasm to help his boss that he long forgot to ask his opinion on this whole search operation.

"Sure, go in search." Jane leaned to the side giving free access to the house.

"Thank you ma'am" The driver cried out thankfully, being grateful that she cooperated without complaint.

Jane giggled at the sight of this naïve man. "I'm sure you won't find any bad people inside." 'rather outside', she murmured the last part not parting her eyes from Sasha's figure.

Yet the driver was long gone, directing the other soldiers inside the house, missing on Jane's slip out.

Sasha was still standing like a block of stone outside not moving from the spot.

"You are not going in to search?" Jane asked Sasha.

He finally opened his mouth, but his answer was short and curt "No need."

"Hmm" Jane hummed and the gentle smile edged deeper with a playful glint shining in her eyes. "Say what are you going to do if you find for what you came here for? Steal it like the last time?"

Sasha became even stiffer.

Jane hit him hard where it hurt, accusing him to have stolen once from her and trying it once again.

Sasha already suspected Emilié being here but now... his doubts really rose high.

Was his daughter here? And why is Jane talking as if she is important to her?

If they have met, then they only know each other for a day and a day isn't long enough to form a strong bound!

Sasha was really unsure, what should he believe? What should he do?

Jane got him really good poking and digging where its brittle.

She was a very dangerous woman, soft like water, that drowns you in her mind games before you notice.

Sasha just endured in silence, wait and see, do not make assumptions, yet he expected no less from the woman Emil choose initially, unpredictable and deep.

Whereas they were waiting outside the front door, the big group of man inside split themselves into groups of two searching the house systematically.

While the driver was alone waiting in the living room for the others to report of their findings, but then he looked outside into the backyard seeing to little figures running.

"Ooh d*mn! I forgot to send a group outside!"
