Chapter 20: Chapter 19
She hesitated for a bit more and finally decided to talk. She took a deep breath and looked at him.
"Can I visit your parents at the hospital tomorrow if it's okay with you? I promised them I would visit them...."
Lan Zhuo thought he miss heard what she said and dumbly said "huh?"
Xiulan repeated what she said a bit slowly. She was mentally beating herself up. In the end she couldn't muster up her courage and talk about the day's events. She was secretly observing Lan Zhuo to see if this had angered him, as she had an inkling feeling that he would have guessed what she wanted to talk to him about.
Lan Zhuo didn't know how to react. He didn't know if he had to tell her to come straight to the point or to play along with this farce. In the end, he decided to play along. He said "Sure, go on and meet them. I will not be able to accompany you as I have some business in city A. Bring along the driver and bodyguards I have assigned for you. You should something to conceal your identity for the time being. Be safe. I will see you soon. Good night." and stood up. He glanced at her briefly and walked out with a slight smile as he noticed her dumbfounded expression. When he caught himself smiling, he frowned and wondered what had happened to him recently as he strode towards the elevator.
Xiulan didn't know how to react. She pretty much knew that he did it totally on purpose. Her lips twitched in annoyance. In the midst of all this she had totally forgotten about the original purpose. She finished her routine and drifted to sleep all while sulking about how annoying her boss was.
Xiulan woke up a bit early the next morning. She got ready to visit Lan Zhuo's parents in the hospital.
When she was eating breakfast, the 2 bodyguards assigned to her, reported and introduced themselves as An Duo and An Luo. They waited patiently for her to finish and they escorted her to the car park. She saw a person in the chauffeur uniform waiting for her them in front of low key BMW model. He introduced himself as An Ruo. Xiulan raised a brow but said nothing. They got into the car and quickly made the trip to the hospital. She remembered to wear a mask and a scarf before she got off from the car. She bought a bouquet of fresh flowers and a basket of fresh fruits on the way. She swiftly made it to the floor where the couple stayed with her bodyguards in tow.
When she reached the room, she took a deep breath and knocked slightly.
The old couple were very happy when she had come over and were all smiles. Chen Fei was recovering well after her surgery and the doctors were all optimistic that she would make a good recovery.
After spending time with them well until the evening, Xiulan went back to the apartment and resumed reading the files after talking to her parents.
Things went smoothly and she reported to FeiYi Headquarters as Lan Zhuo's personal assistant on Monday. She worked pretty well and pretty much got adjusted to the work environment in FeiYi. She didn't have that usual taut mind she had when she was working in Lan Corps. She had to admit that Lan Zhuo was a good person to work under. She was very happy with the way things progressed during work and her work efficiency also improved.
Lan Zhuo was observing her and was satisfied with her standards. He was pretty confident that she could take over Zhao Yufeng's work after a few months if she continued her good performance.
He was wholeheartedly ready to take away Zhao Yufeng from the position of his PA and let him manage his other affairs. He almost laughed out when he (LZ) imagined his (ZY) face when he (ZY) learns his (LZ) plans for him (ZY).
At about the same time, Zhao Yufeng who was sent to complete a set of confidential tasks suddenly sneezed. He even felt shivers run down his spine. He looked around with vigilance. When he made sure he was in a secure spot, he rubbed his nose and wondered if he caught a cold or if someone was scheming against him.
