Chapter 27: Rise up after you fall
I stood there, I couldn't believe what my eyes clearly saw. Skye, my best friend, whom I can always depend on, the one who always stood up for me, strong, proud, determined. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, eyes red and swollen, tears streaming down her face. Tears of sadness and disappointment clearly painted her face. She looked so young, but at the same time, she looked.. crestfallen.
I didn't know what to do, unsure of how to aproach her. Do I talk to her? Tell her to move on? That sounded callous. Do I console her? Give her a hug? Sit down next to her and just be silent? What? What should I do?
Everything and everyone has a first time and this is my first time to see her like this. This is the first time I've ever seen her upset. I've never seen her cry, not once. She is always a jolly person. Nothing, and I mean nothing gets her down like this.
Before I can decide what to do, Skye looked up straight at me, our eyes collide and I don't know what came upon me. Just that look she gave me, that woebegone look and I started to tear up too. I slowly walk towards her, sat down and held her hands. She pulled me over and gave me a crushing hug. I felt all her frustrations and sadness. I didn't say anything. I coudn't say anything. My throat is constricted with whatever feelings, I'm feeling at that moment.
I needed to know. I wanted to know. I need to find out. What happened? What did Shaun do, to make her like this? Why is she acting like this? But nothing, nothing came out of me. I couldn't string any words together. All I know is that Skye needs me and if this is the way I can console her then so be it.
After some time, Skye calmed down, she's just got her head on my shoulder and our hands arw clasped together.
"I'm so glad you're here!" I heard Skye say in a faint voice.
I didn't ask, I just sat there quietly listening to her tell her story.
"It happened last summer, as I said before at the beach. I met Shaun in the cafe by the beach. I ordered my coffee and accidentally spilled it on him when I suddenly turned around and didn't know he was there. After I tried to get the coffee off him, he accused me of "trying to get my hands all over him!"" she exclaimed with a little smile on her face, obviously remembering the day she met Shaun.
"the nerve of that guy! At first, I was shellshocked, I didn't know him and thought he was seriously accusing me of such, then he looked at me with his heart stopping eyes that possessed the power to make me swoon. He's got laughing eyes, you know. It's what got me in a tangled mess!" she said dramatically.
"That's where it all started. He asked me my number, would you believe, I didn't give it to him at first. You know, stranger danger?" she paused and I nodded.
She told me all the details of what happened last summer, how they started dating. How it was filled with happiness and adventure. Then came the night before she was going back home, she didn't expect to see, she wasn't expecting to see.
"I told him, I will be leaving the next night, so he invited me to go and have dinner at his place the night before, I was reluctant to go because, it's just going to be the two of us, and it might get out of hand. But then I thought, nothing will happen if I don't let it. Wynter, you should see my surprise when I got there and saw him kissing and hugging with all hands and legs all over him, this blonde bimbo." full of disgust in her voice.
She started describing the said blonde bimbo with two racks full like melon and appendages like octopus'. Skye is known for her exaggeration and this is a great example of it.
"I left quickly without a backward glance and didn't think about it until earlier."
"If it didn't bother you then, why did it bother you now?" I heard myself asked.
"You don't understand, I was wrong, what I thought I saw. I'm not crying because I'm upset with Shaun, I'm upset with myself!" she declared.
"Huh?" I said confused.
"Shaun explained to me that the blonde bimbo was his ex. She wanted to get back with him. He was trying to stop her and untangle her extremities off him, when I saw them. And because I walked away, I never knew what happened. I didn't stop to find out. He kept sending me messages, text, email and calling me. I end up blocking him, without knowing the truth. I was blinded by my pride that I didn't even ask or investigated what I saw then." she explained.
This crazy woman!
"So, why was Shaun looking like someone died and your Dad looks like he was giving him advise?" once again, I'm confused.
I looked at Skye, she smiled sweetly this time. "Because Dad told him, he needed to wait until I finish college, so we're friends and only friends until then. He was disappointed because of that." she said cheerfully.
What the H! Seriously! My friend is mental! Totally mental! And I fell for it! I read it all wrong! I read her wrong. She is bat shit crazy! 100%!
