Chapter 18: Lunch

The two messages from Ash, one at ten to eleven which reads, (Hi Wynter, are you ready to go?), and the other one was sent ten past eleven (Hi Wynter, I'm waiting at your front door.)

I quickly grabbed my back pack and ran straight to the front door after I read the last one.

When I opened the door, there's no one there. I walk out and checked and I couldn't see anyone out there. I turned around to go back inside, ready to send a message of apology to Ash, when I heard his voice.

"Took you long enough." He was standing inside the gazebo, leaning inside one of the post, a rackish smile pasted on his face and wearing a black slim fit shirt and jeans with his black Chuck's. No wonder I didn't see him.

"Hi Ash, hey, sorry I was late, I didn't realise the time ran away from me, I was admiring Aunty Hazel's backyard, when I decided to lounge in their pergola. I left my phone in my room and only just got your calls and messages not long ago." I explained while walking towards the gazebo.

"No worries, sweetie, all good." with his dashing smile. "Are you hungry? We can go to the Trattoria first before we go to the beach"

"I'm not that hungry yet, can we walk there?" I queried.

"Sure can! It's not that far, I was going to suggest it anyway" he gushed.

"If that's the case, then I might be hungry by then!" I declared. "Hang on, I better lock up."

Ash followed behind me, after I lock up, we started walking out of the driveway into the foot path. As we were walking, I couldn't help but admire this superior street. I'm thinking that it must be really well off people who live around this area. Most of houses that we pass through have vehicles that I only see in car magazines and looks very expensive parked in their driveways.

Ash is walking beside me and I can't help but notice that his body is well toned and muscled. It must be from his long hours volunteering as a life guard, I suppose you need to be fit and be a powerful swimmer if you do this kind of work.

Ash turned his head and look at me. He smiled. "Its just in the corner, over there."

It's not even ten minutes to walk to the restaurant. He started pointing out the shops and stores as we turn the corner. This street has got a magnificent beach view.

A short more walk and we arrived at the trattoria. It was a quaint little establisment that makes you think that you're back in the 50's style. It's got a good view of the beach and it's got outdoor tables which is a great idea, especially with the weather today.

Inside you can see the top half, white ribbed walls and the bottom half is minty green. There were plenty of wooden tables and chairs, complete with table settings and napkins. Some seats are lined up on the wall with brown leather back.

There were several hanging big black concave lamps and in between are black ceiling fans and further inside is a bar like benchtop where their till or cash register is and an open kitchen.

There is a waitress who greeted us and spoke to Ash. She ask him if we have reservations. After he told her our reservations, he asked if we can seat outside. She nodded then she ushered us to a table for two. Before I can pull my chair to seat, Ash is there pulling the seat out for me then he went across and sat himself down.

Before the waitress left, she pointed out the fish of the day for the lunch special, then turned around and went inside. Ash gave me one of the menus and we busy ourselves reading and deciding what to eat.

The waitress came back with a full jug of water, poured some on our glasses then left the jug on the table and left.

After looking at the menu, Ash asked me what I would like, I asked him which one should I choose, since I haven't been to this restaurant and not sure what's best to eat.

"Which one do you prefer, pizza or pasta? They make a great seafood spaghetti here or the prawns pizza, even the truffled four cheese pizza is great! Are you vegetarian? They have great salads here too!"he asked.

"I think I'll try their truffled four cheese pizza please and I'm not vegetarian, though" I informed him.

"That's great, I knew you are a woman after my own heart!" he exclaimed smiling his hundred watts smile.

"What are you having?" I was curious.

"I'm having the prawns pizza. You can try it if you like." he offered.

"Ok, if you like, you can have some of mine too." I agreed, as I ran my hand through my hair, nervous.

My nerves are on high alert everytime this guy is near me, why? I don't know too, I like him, but it's confusing me, why I get this sort of uncomfortable feeling but at the same time, I also feel overly excited, elated, and too happy.

These thoughts are going through my mind when the waitress came back and asked if we're ready to order.

" Yes, can we have the truffled four cheese pizza for the lady and prawns pizza for me, please." Ash has got great manners, then he turned to me "What drinks would you like, Wynter?"

"Lemonade, please."

"Make it two lemonade, please" he politely asked the lady.

As we wait for our food, Ash and I talked about his family. His father is a food chain magnate and his mother owns a finance brokerage firm that helps people buy and sell securities.

What impressed me most about him is that eventhough he is an only child or from a rich family, the way he's acting doesn't show that he's a spoiled brat . He's parents must be good people and have taught him well, for him to stay humble.

Our food arrived and as promised he cut up a piece of his pizza and gave it to me, even before he have a bite of his and I did the same. Ash wasn't exaggerating when he praised the food from this establishment.
