Chapter 13: Wake up

My consciousness was waiting for the sound of Nan singing in the kitchen downstairs making breakfast. I'm used to waking up to the smell of eggs and bacon in the morning. But there is nothing this morning, all I can hear is a shuffling of paper like a magazine flipping that sounds almost at the foot of my bed.

I gently cracked my eyes open and look up, the normal, glow in the dark stars, stuck up in my bedroom ceiling was no where to be found. I got a bit confused, about where I am, for a moment. I looked around then I saw Skye sitting down on the chair on the foot of my bed, flipping on a magazine.

Everything came rushing back to me when I saw her, recognising that I'm in a hotel room in Sydney and not in my own bedroom at Nan's house.

"Good morning, sleepyhead!" Skye greets me.

I didn't realise she knew I was already awake.

" Hey girl, you better wake up soon, I need my coffee, they have complimentary breakfast downstairs. It finishes at 10.30." she informed me.

"What time is it?" I asked.

"Its five past six." she said.

" Hmmm. Still early.." I said.

"No girl! We have to be at the train station at 9.45. The train leaves at 10.15am. You better get your arse up and showered in 15 or we're not getting any breakfast. I NEED my coffee fix!" she said desperately.

"k." I answered, too lazy even to complete the word. Then turned to my side and covered myself with the rich, fluffy, warm doona. I really love the doona in this hotel. I shut my eyes again when the doona went flying off the bed and onto the floor.

I turned around, " What the?" All my senses are awake now, no doubt about it. I look at Skye and she's already dressed, I don't know what time she woke up but I know she's a morning person and trains herself to wake up early in the morning. I suppose if you work part time, morning shift in a coffee shop, it does makes sense.

"Girl you need to get ready! We need to pack our stuff then have breakfast! Look it's a beautiful day outside."

And before I knew it, she pulled open the block out curtains and let the glorious light in.

" Ahhhhhhhh! I'm melting! Shut it!" I dramatically said covering my eyes from the sun and turning away from it.

Skye laughed and sat at the end of my bed.

" Your phone dings too while you were asleep, sounds like you got a message.. I wonder who? I'm here with you, so I don't suppose I sent you the message.. who could it be?" she said teasing me.

I sat up and reached for my phone which is charging up in the bedside table next to my bed. I look at the messages and it's both from Ash.

First one was sent last night at 11.25pm, I was already asleep so I didn't see that. It just said (Good night, Wynter). The second one was sent this morning at 5.45am, it said (Good morning Wynter, out for a jog this morning. Can't sleep much last night. See you later at the train station. Keep safe. Ash)

"So, it's from Mr. Broody, isnt it? What did he say?" she demands.

"Yeah, nothing much.." I replied.

" Girl! I needed something more than nothing much! I was a third wheel yesterday now throw this dog a bone, now!" she pleaded.

I laughed and said, "I don't know if you better yourself today than yesterday. A third wheel yesterday, now a dog!"

"Zip it, just because you found a new text mate, doesn't mean you're going to set me aside, do you? Now tell me what lover boy sent you." she said.

" Hey, first, he's not my lover boy, and I'm not setting you aside, I'm putting you in your place! It's my message. I don't need to tell you!" I grinned.

" Ouch! You hurt my feelings! What happened to the no secrets between us pact? I thought I'm your best friend?" she cajoled.

I grinned from ear to ear. " You are! Here you can read it."

I handed her my phone and you should see the look in her face. She looks like a little girl given the biggest and the most colorful ice cream for the first time.

" Nah, nothing much to see here." she declared after she read the messages.

" I told you, but you didn't believe me.." I agreed with her.

Time flies quickly after that, we went down and had breakfast then back up to pack up our things. Then we were pulling our suitcases out the hotel after we check out and crossing the road to the train station. It is quite convenient that the airport is connected to the train and bus stations.

The train station is packed full of waiting passengers carrying backpacks and suitcases, some of the passengers must be just going to work as they're not carrying much but a handbag or a laptop carry case.

After checking in with our tickets, we didn't wait long until the train arrived. We got in to our destined seats and just waited. Then we're off and moving. Hearing the train grunt and screech. It only took us around 35 minutes to arrive in our stop.
