Chapter 2: Skye
Skye was my best friend. I couldn't remember my life without her in it. All I know was she was my Mom's neighbor and friend Sally's daughter. Sally use to look after me after my Da passed and Mom have to go to work.
I remember the first time my Mom dropped me off to their apartment. I wouldn't let her go and leave me with them. Sally coaxed me to have ice cream with Skye, she said to me, "Come and see Skye, we'll have ice cream after"
But I was distraught and thought she said
"Come and see the sky, then we'll have ice cream after"
I went willingly because I love to look at the sky, my Mom always said to me that
"Your Da is up in the sky, in the heavens looking down at you, watching you grow big and beautiful!"
Well you should see my surprise when I saw a little girl in her curly blonde ponytails with big blue eyes waiting in the kitchen table patiently staring at the waffle cones likes its the only thing that is important to her!
"Wynter, this is Skye! Skye be good and come here, say hello to Wynter, she is Lydia's daughter next door."
The little girl look at me, stepped down from the chair she was sitting and walk over to me, " Hi, why are you crying?" she asked.
" My Da is gone and now my mom is gone too" I answered.
"Oh Darling, your Mom is not gone, she just went to work and she will be back soon, you'll see! But now Skye and I will look after you while your Mom's at work! We'll go to the park later after we had some ice cream, ok?" Sally interrupted after she saw how distraught I was.
The little girl then stood next to me and held my hand, she shook my hand and said "My name is Skye, do you want some ice cream?"
That's the start of our lovely friendship, crazy sometimes.. and we were never much apart after that.
Skye was sitting in the lounge with her boots up on the center table.
"Skye, put your feet down! If Nan sees you, she would chop it off and feed it to the dogs" I whisper screamed to her..
She looked at me and smiled,
" I didn't know you had dogs!" but put her feet down.
" Do you want to get into trouble with Nan? You know she's very particular with etiquettes especially with us, her girls?" I said sternly.
"Marie Claire is Nan's middle name I know.."
"Skye Wellington!" we both turned where Nan's voice was coming from.
"Now you've done it," I said to her.
"Now I've done it," she said at the same time.
"Nan! I didn't know you were there, you said before that Marie Claire is your middle name.. I'm just stating the facts!" she is known to try to get out of a sticky situation and come out unscathed.
Nan gave her, her most beautiful smile,
"You are indeed! that doesn't mean you're out of the woods! Wynter said that you were the one who encouraged her to go to Australia! You have to take care, both of you!" she said to us.
She gave us both a hug and asked, if we still have time for a hot cocoa. We never said no to Nan's hot cocoa, but its too late to change our minds now!
