Chapter 8: Goblins Nest
After returning to my tent, my adrenaline began to calm down, and my hands started to tremble and I think to myself.
"holy shit, I still can't believe I just killed three goblins."
even though I knew that I would eventually face monsters while traveling through dead pass, that encounter I just had with those goblins was starting to get to me, I then sit down and start breathing in and out so that I can calm mind even if it's for a little while, but then I made disturbing realization.
"if those three goblins were out here scavenging for food, then it means that, the rest of their nest will come and look for them."
I take a swig of my water jug and continue with my thoughts.
"since those three were just scavenging food and only held clubs as weapons then that means they
are just scouts and aren't particularly intelligent but their warriors and hobgoblins are a different story all together."
I then remember what I've read about goblins back home, on how complex they when you compare them to other monsters in this world, and one of the main differences is their intelligence level, though the average individual in this word, are still smarter than goblins on many levels, they have a particular tribal way of thinking and having a sense of community that other monsters don't seem to express, and that alone can be problem if their whole nest is threatened, and that includes killing their scouts, and because of that, there is slight possibility that the nest of the goblins I just killed earlier will most likely take action and hunt me down, and so after carefully thinking it through, I say to myself.
"alright it looks like I'm gonna have to destroy that goblin nest."
I stand up and store the dead animal inside an enchanted box that my dad made for me with his enchanting skills, and this prevents the rotting of meat, I then place it inside the tent where my travel pack is at, and soon after doing so, I make my way back to the river where I killed the three goblins, and while walking there, I think to myself.
"if their nest is huge to the point where I think I can't handle it, then I'll have to relocate from my current camping site, and make as much distance from the river as I can."
I arrive back at the river and already see another goblin covered in leather armor, searching the area of the dead goblin scouts, and I think to myself.
"that must be how goblin warriors look like."
and I continue with my train of thought.
"It's fine at this distance and so I'll just use my bow, since my arrowhead of all my arrows are made out of iron, it can easily pierce his leather armor."
I ready my bow and carefully aim at him, I then finally fire my arrow, and it pierces chest, but it wasn't enough to make him fall, he yells in anger while looking where it came from, I then calmly grab another arrow from my quiver and fire another one the goes through his head this head this time, I then think to myself.
"alright, if they have sent out their warriors to search for the one who killed their scouts, then all I need to do is pick them apart one by one."
I then start to follow the river upstream, hoping that It will eventually lead me to one of their nests, because goblins tend to set them up near sources of water, and after a while of going upstream, I spot two more goblins on the other side of the river from me, one looks like a scout and the other is a warrior goblin, and I think to myself.
"they must be in high alert since I killed those goblins, because he's escorting that scout."
I get closer so that I can get a clear shot and I think to myself.
"it looks like I'm gonna have to waste all of my arrows on them, and only use my sword if one of them gets to close to me."
I quickly dispose both of the goblins, and as I keep going upstream, I repeatedly kill more goblins with my bow, until I finally arrive at their nest and I get surprised that these goblins have made little cloth teepees, instead of hiding out in a cave, and I think to myself.
"they must me traveling around until they find a cave to settle inside of it, so the numbers of their nest must be small, when compared to others, I then breathe a sigh of relief.
"this is good, I won't be encountering a hobgoblin from this small nest."
I carefully circle the small settlement, and notice there are no goblin warriors or goblin children here, and I think to myself.
"they must have recently migrated away from another huge nest, which would make sense on why they only have scouts and warriors."
I then put away my bow and unsheathe my short sword, readying myself to kill the rest of the goblins in this settlement who are unarmed, and I think to myself.
"it must be done, you can't feel guilty for killing these goblins even of they are unarmed."
I enter the goblin settlement and I start stabbing and hacking at any goblin getting in my way, and as soon as it seem like I have cleared the settlement, a goblin warrior jumps out from a cloth teepee in front of me and I block his sword with mine, and I kick him away from me, the goblin warrior looks at me in anger, for what I have done, for me it didn't matter, because if I had tried to get away, they would have done the same to me, the goblin warrior does a flurry of attacks, but I manage to keep up and block each swing that he gives until he tires himself out, I then take advantage and stab him in the chest, he then falls to his knees, I pull the sword out of it and decapitate him, I then take one last look around the settlement, to see if anymore come out, and once none more came out, I leave the goblins nest and start heading back to camp before night time comes.
