Chapter 7: Goblin Troubles
Since my village is on the outskirts of the kingdom, I was outside of Rozlania territory pretty quickly and if anyone wants to completely leave the area then they have to travel through the dense unclaimed forest of dead pass, the forest got the name because of all the monsters that inhabit it and it's a perfect place for outlaws and bandits to make their base camps at, and where unwary adventurers have gone missing at an alarming rate, so of course I have to be extra careful if I travel through here, especially with the fact that I have to depend on my physical strength, and my fighting abilities instead of magical abilities, so the first thing I decided to do is to hunt down some wild animals so that I can avoid using my rations in which I'm saving up for emergencies only, I carefully make way through bushes avoiding making any unnecessary noise,
I then find a good spot to put up a tent, I lay my travel pack near a tree and I start setting up my tent, and then after finishing putting up, I start to set up a perimeter with rope, that has a few cans tied to it, which is meant to be an alarm if anything touches the rope, I then store my pack inside my tent and head out to search for some animals, and I think to myself.
"I need to find a river or a lake."
after a couple of minutes of cautiously walking through the forest I find a small river, and on the other side I spot a small animal with white fur that looks very similar to a rabbit like the ones from on earth, except this one seems to have a sharp horn on its forehead, I then start to steady my breathing and I slowly raise my bow and take aim, I start pulling back the string with the nock of the arrow, and take a couple of shallow breaths before I release, and then after carefully aiming at the little animal, I finally let go of the string and the nock of the arrow, the arrow whistles through the air, and the arrow pierces cleanly through the head, I then pump my fist in victory and say to myself.
"see this is easy Collin, you got this."
As I slowly approach the dead animal, I hear some rustling in the bushes nearby, I quickly squat down and swiftly hide my self behind a nearby tree, I then slowly and cautiously take a quick peek around the corner of huge and thick tree and I see a green skinned figure, wearing only a loincloth, holding a club on one hand and picking up the dead animal I just killed with the other hand, and then I think to myself.
"That thing must be a goblin."
it looks very similar to those that you would see on those typical fantasy role playing games, This is my first time seeing one in this world, so I think to myself.
"Damn it that goblin is going to take my food."
so in my mind I decided that I only got two choices to make which is leave the goblin be and let him take my kill, or I can kill that goblin and take back the animal I killed, I then hype myself up.
"you got this, just sneak up on him and kill him."
I put the bow on my back, where it hangs on the quiver, and I unsheathe the short sword from my side and I slowly start moving towards the goblin, he doesn't seem to notice his surroundings because he has attention focused on the dangling animal he is holding, he then pulls the arrow from the animal's head and then he turn his back to me, and starts walking on the opposite direction from me, and without any hesitation I take this opportunity to charge at the goblin and quickly pierce my sword through his throat, it immediately collapses to the ground as I pull out my sword covered in his blood, and I then think to myself.
"this is it my first time I've killed anything in any of my lives."
as I look down at its bloody corpse, I think to myself.
"you can't feel bad for it, if you want to become stronger you have to do things you won't like, you will face much greater challenges ahead and much tougher foes than this."
I then sit down and rest for a bit, feeling a little mentally exhausted about what I've done. after a while of resting I get up and In silence I stare at the corpse of the goblin, and as I slowly reach out to grab the animal, I then hear unintelligible words in the distance I quickly grab the animal from the dead goblin's hand and retreat back to my spot behind the tree, I once again peek over around the corner and spot two more goblins emerging from the bushes, they both look at the body and seem to be in high alert about their findings and in my thoughts I say.
"shit, I'm screwed, even if I run those two goblins will see me and chase after me."
I don't think I have any other choice but to find a way to take out both of them, I close my eyes and take a couple of deep breaths, and say under my breath.
"They both need to die, but I cant waste my arrows on them."
I come up with an idea to split them up, I grab a rock, I position myself in a throwing stance and i threw it as far as I could and it lands on some pile of leaves where it makes a rustling sounds,
I peek over to the goblins and they both seem to be talking to each other but I can't understand what they are saying, one of the goblins points at the direction of the noise and the other one starts heading over there, I think to myself excited.
"I can't believe it worked."
He disappears from my sight and I slowly get up from my position, Getting ready to rush the goblin near me, I get my short sword ready again, but as I take a step forward a crunching sound is made under my foot, the goblin quickly turns his head towards me, and as he sees me, he yells out unintelligible, and I think to myself.
"fuck I've been made, there is no point in being sneaky now, I need to kill him before the other goblin gets here."
I make a run towards the goblin, I ready my sword and I swing down, he was prepared and dodges my attack and takes a side swing and hits my side with his club I yell out in pain.
"ow that hurts you ugly little shit."
I react and firmly grab his arm and simultaneously swing down with my sword and chop it off, he lets out blood curdling shriek, I then elbow him at his temple and he falls down, I plant my feet down on his chest to hold him down, and use my sword to stab him between his eyes, a few short moments later the other goblin makes his way back to me, I try to pull my sword back but it seems that it is stuck inside the dead goblin's head, I let go of the sword and raise my fists as I face the other goblin, he raises his club over his head, takes a big swing at me, I sidestep which causes him to miss and stumble, I kick him and it sends falling backwards, where his back crashes against a tree, he loses the grip of his club, and while he was dazed in confusion, I wrap my arms around his neck from behind him and drop to floor in a sleeper hold position and I start squeezing his neck with my arms, the goblin tries to struggle free, but since goblins are the weakest monsters physically, he can't do much to break from my tight grip, after a solid two minutes of struggle the goblin goes limp, I let go of it, pick my self up and pull the sword from the other goblin and stab this passed out goblin that choked out to make sure it was dead, I look to sky and let out a sigh of relief, and said to myself.
"I just survived my first encounter with monsters."
I grab all of my things and start heading back to my tent.
