Chapter 10: To Catch a Snow White Predator (Part 4) [Revised]
Ah, what a refreshing way to wake up! Not only did I obtain some major progress in my cultivation, but I also removed an annoying fly that was cramping my style!
Even my hand is no longer on fire, although the black marks are going to be a pain in the ass to explain. Well, whatever, I'll deal with that when it comes to it.
Huh, everyone else seems to be worried about what happened to Avery. Maybe he was well liked?
Whatever, I'm sure that I'm free of suspicion. I mean, who would accuse the kind boy who looks like he wouldn't hurt a fly?
"...and that's why I think he's the most suspicious, standing their smiling," said the fat f*ck named Bors, who was starting to get on my nerves.
Carolyn and Lissa seemed to agree, and that really hurt my feelings. Even if I did kill the guy, you should take the side of the cute younger guy! Or at least be like Captain, who looks like she doesn't give a f*ck.
"It doesn't matter who killed him," said the Captain, proving my point perfectly. "All of you are expendable, especially Avery, and our priority remains finding the bear. And if one of you does happen to be the killer, then I'd best warn you to stop f*cking around and focus on the mission, or I swear to (non-existent) God I will fucking tear your throat out. Are we clear?"
Jeez lady, is it your time of the month or something? Sheesh. Whatever, its not like I'll be conducting any more dark ritual anyways, what with my actions yesterday invoking Karmic Fire. Judecca is a real bitch when it comes to contracts.
Which reminds me, now would be a good time to escape. I mean, the others already seem to suspect me of killing poor old Avery, and I've already met my cultivation goals. Still, its always hard to say goodbye, especially when-
"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR"
-there's a f*cking demonic beast running at your group with its fangs bared.
"Holy shit, there's the beast! Take it down!" Yelled Bors, who seemed to have some misunderstanding of what subtlety is. The bear seemed to agree with me, since it immediately headed for Bors.
Seemingly unaware of the danger the beast possessed, Bors calmly removed a tranquilizer gun and fired a few shots at the beast... which harmlessly bounced off a pale blue screen that suddenly appeared around the bear.
Astral Aura. Well sh*t. The Captain also looks shocked as well, although that doesn't stop her from turning the safety off of her machine gun and opening fire.
Seems like she's got good survival instincts, in comparison to Carolyn and Lissa who are just standing their gawking.
Come on people, get your head in the game! Look, even that fat-ass Bors is contributing! Granted, that contribution is being slowly mauled to death by an angry white fur-ball, but that's better than nothing!
As for me, I am of course giving my 100 percent contribution as well...by running away. What else were you expecting? That I'd demonstrate my astonishing martial prowess and kill the beast with one blow, to the adoration of my many female compatriots (I just noticed the ratio) thus leading to the formation of my harem?
Like that's possible. I've barely cultivated at all so far, and have only just completed the first layer of my cultivation technique (there are three layers for the Essence Refining Stage by the way, in case I wasn't clear on that).
Not to mention my skills are all geared towards support and auxiliary methods, even if I were at the Spirit Manifestation stage I still probably couldn't kill the thing (a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my point). So naturally I should run and reduce the number of targets for the bear to eat.
Unfortunately, the bear seems to have other plans since it decides to forgo its meal of fresh mauled Bors to hunt me instead. Jokes on you, I have a secret weapon.
And with a turn of my sleeve, a machine gun that may or may not have belonged to our recently deceased friend Avery appears in my hands.
"Prepare to meet your doom fiend!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. Turning towards the bear I pull the trigger...only to find out the safety is on. Well that's embarrassing.
Letting out a sigh of annoyance, I drop the gun and let my body fall to the ground before jumping to my feet immediately afterwards, dodging a a paw swipe that was millimeters off from taking my head.
Carolyn and Lissa have also seemed to have recovered from their stupor as both immediately open fire... only to completely miss. Dammit, these people are supposed to be professionals!
As I despair over the incompetence of my group, I dodge a few more paw swipes from the growling ball of teeth and fur next to me. Stop bothering me dammit, I'm trying to think!
Ok, let's see... frontal attacks will definitely fail, since the bear had already condensed a rather powerful Aura field to protect itself. Maybe I could use poison? Nah, don't have any. Wait, I have an idea!
And with another turn of my sleeve, legs and arms that may or may not have belonged to our recently deceased friend Avery are thrown in four directions! Fetch!
Shoot, that didn't work either. Maybe the bear likes tongue? Well I'm not throwing that out, that's a collectible. Okay, plan B it is!
And with a final turn of my sleeve, a shiv appears... smack dab in the center of the bear's eye.
And as the beast lets out a roar of confusion and pain, I feel a tug at the corner of my lips...this is going to be fun.
