Ayan was sitting at the river bank. The beautiful music of the water splashing on the Stony banks made him forget the painful reality. At this moment he would give away anything to get rid of the misery of his life.
He felt lonely with no one to call his own and nothing to own.
His grandpa died last night and before he drew his last breath, he revealed such an unbelievable story with Ayan.
Ayan now knew he was the descendant of the great ruler of Amandagam, a place full of wealth, beauty and magic. All his life he has only heard of this magical place from the villagers who wondered the ways to get in this kingdom.
Amandagam was a mystery and Ayan never was interested in it. He thought it was just the fantasy world of hope this poor villagers created for them to live in hope.
In his village it was only poverty, hunger and despair. Every single soul would think of themselves as rich if they get to eat their meal to a full stomach.
They were just living to get rid of this miserable life. Death was a matter of celebration for them, yet he couldn't celebrate the death of Grandpa Johan.
Last Night-
"You are the true ruler of Amandagam" Grandpa said with a shaky breath.
"Grandpa, you take rest. We will discuss this tomorrow" Ayan replied thinking that Grandpa was hallucinating.
"I don't have time till tomorrow Ayan. You need to know this." Grandpa pleaded.
Ayan couldn't say no to him. He sat silently holding his grandpa's wrinkled bony hands. They were cold.
"Your mother was the daughter of a great magician and she too was the best magician of her time. When your parents got married, Amandagam was celebrating for months. The mysterious door to Amandagam was opened for everyone."
Grandpa was good at story telling, Ayan thought.
" During then, some evil entered through the protected Gates of our city, your mother too could not foresee the upcoming turmoil."
"After months of continuous celebration among all the magical creatures in the city, there came another good news to celebrate.
Your mother was expecting you."
"Among all these, there was someone who was plotting chaos in Amandagam. His presence in the city already was visible, our trees were dying and the water streams were becoming toxic, but who had time to notice these signs. When the fairys saw the change, they came to your mother but when they saw the delightful look on your parents face, they went back not willing to spoil your parents happiness with mere speculation."
"Then came the day when you were to arrive. Your maternal grandfather came too. But when your mother was in the mid of her labour, a great commotion happened followed by which came dark clouds hovering over the towers. All we could see was the great buildings falling one after another. The citizens ran with no direction in fears and in moments, even before we heard your first cry, it were Amandagam that was howling in pain."
"Give me your newborn and Amandagam, and I will let you live."- Came a shrill from the sky."
"At the very moment we heard your cries from your mother's chambers. Your father was no where to be seen. He was with his people because they needed him. Suddenly I felt myself pulled in a whirlpool and everything was silent. After a long time I fell hard on the ground and found myself in this village. After my fall, people started falling from the sky and they were Amandagam's people. Among them was your mother still tired and you in her arms. She was lying weak on the hard ground when I walked to her."
"I picked you up from the dirt and when I leaned to pick your mother, a bright light blinded me. When it was gone I could see your mother nowhere."
"Since then we are trapped here with no magic that would work. We made a living but it never reached the lowest level of Amandagam, and slowly many people stopped believing in Amandagam with their memories lost."
"There are very few elders who still knows that you are the prince of Amandagam, but none of them anymore believes that they will ever be returning to their city."
His grandpa stopped and looked at him. Ayan was blank. This was the hopeless hope Ayan has kept himself away from yet today this story seemed believable, but he was clueless on what he was supposed to do with this information.
"Grandpa, even if I believe in you, there isn't a way to find Amandagam, so what should I do?"
" I have faith in you. You will find a way!"
And his grandpa's hand went limp leaving Ayan with a mystery he did not need.
At the River Bank-
' I am hungry and I am tired.' Ayan thought to himself. He dived in the river to get some lotus seed to eat.
Little did he know what was waiting for him in the water.
