Fanfics

Reinesse: I have a lot to do, but I'm too lazy. Like write my novel, or work, or translate for free, or revise my novel, but naaaah.

Elyon: But naaah yo go nyaaa~ Ooof, wrong girl xD!

Reinesse: heh.

xWangan: heh.

Elyon: My bad.

NaranNarman: I'm waiting for a satire novel to pop out about a very dense MC. Denser than any black hole in the universe collapse and form the big crunch.

WWFire: A dense MC.... that has a couple of girls chasing after him? That's cliche…

NaranNarman: Satire novel about the worst harem stories.

Cultivator Requiem: I just want the harems to stop. There are too many and it gets more and more depraved in a competition to be bolder.

NaranNarman: Combining the density of every MC into one mega dense cluster of pure baloney.

Elyon: In my eyes, there are only two MC's in this world. My MC and the others.

WWFire: I'm starting to think that someone should write an ultimate cliche novel just to be sarcastic to all chuni isekai author.

Elyon: That was already done. It's called "Invisible Dragon."

WWFire: That's not isekai tho, I mean something like the harem, op system, unbelievably lucky MC tags.

Rychil: Why doesn't fanfic authors don't get a contract?

Truedawn: Because of copyright.

Rinoz: They don't own the IP.

[A/N: Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names, and images used in commerce. Thank you Google Senpai!]

Rychil: There's a fanfic writing.

Truedawn: Yes, but they are not contracted.

Rychil: Is pretty sad.

Rinoz: Not really, it's the law.

Truedawn: Yeah.

RInoz: You can't profit off stuff you don't own.

Rychil: Why don't they twist it and make it their own?

Truedawn: Although the content may be original the elements you used aren't.

Elyon read the comments of his fellow authors about fanfics. He had not read any fanfic before, but he had heard of them. For him, fanfics are stories made from famous works by their fans. Basically, it follows (or not) the story of the original and creates a new branch, or a new setting, where a story is made using the "same environment/elements" from the original work.

There are many fanfics in Webnovels and many readers love to read these "alternate" stories of their favorite authors, games, manga, etc.

It didn't take long before the chat shifted to another topic and it's about romance stories.

Rychil: Yeah, everybody is writing about some bad boy falling for a good girl.

Murakami: Or a bad girl falling for a good boy.

Rychil: And CEO's fu*** their Secretary.

NaranNarman: Mostly "Alpha" male billionaires falling for sweet countryside women.

Murakami: Or sweet countryside women falling for "Alpha" male billionaires.

Rychil: Never knew some people are that rich. *laugh emoticon*

Rinoz: There is a Saudi Prince with a car made out of solid silver. SILVER.

Cultivator Requiem: @RinoZ What isn't that gonna overheat?

Rinoz: The body of the car is silver, not the internals.

Rychil: @Rinoz Wow! Some people are crazy rich.

Murakami: Wasn't there a Chinese novel about a naruto system. Did they make money off that?

WWFire: No, fanfic doesn't produce money.

Cultivator Requiem: Cuz Fair Use and all.

NaranNarman: Fanfics Lol.

[A/N: And we're back again to fanfics lmao!]

Rychil: Why should anybody write fanfic when you'll earn nothing?

Cultivator Requiem: @Rychil Coz they want to smother it with the ecchi sauce.

WWFire: Second is for writing hobby and practice ofc.

Cultivator Requiem: A pretty deprived way to use writing skills in my opinion. They should just have thought of something new.

Rychil: Hmmm, I see.

NaranNarman: Fanfics get very crazy.

Rychil: Can't they just twist it? And make it their own?

NaranNarman: Sometimes, they even surpass original books in terms of length.

Cultivator Requiem: @NaranNarman Yeah it's what killed wattpad.

NaranNarman: Yes BTS EXO.

Rychil: I've never read some though. So I don't know how it works.

Cultivator Requiem: @Rychil it becomes what's called as a rip-off.

WWFire: Yes, they get views really fast... proportional to the many middle/high school readers.

PsyberRose: You can write fanfics, but you cannot earn from it.

Cultivator Requiem: Cuz fair use and all.

PsyberRose: Though some authors don't even allow fanfics. Anne Rice sued those who used her vampire characters.

WWFire: Look at those naruto fanfic, most of the readers are screaming "NARUTO X HINATA X SAKURA X INO X whatever" FFS.

Reinesse: …

LordFinn: You must always think carefully before writing or saying something because the words you used can be used against yourself too.

Reinesse: It has been a few days and I haven't updated my novel just because I had to write an action scene and design my character's weapon.

Cultivator Requiem: Is it that hard?

Reinesse: Even if my drawing skill is shit.

WWFire: Oh, I used gauntlet as my MC's main weapon.

The talk about fanfic finally died down, but it left an impression to Elyon. If he were to read a fanfic about his favorite movie, anime, manga, or games, would he perhaps enjoy the "World" created by one of its fans who love it as much as he does?

It's quite unfortunate, but he's too busy writing at the moment and has no time to read any fanfics of his favorite genres. Still, fanfics are everywhere in Webnovels and if you just use the search button, you'll be able to see them as well.

As long as there will be a demand or need for something like fanfics, then there will be writer's who will provide it. It's just how the world works, and perhaps, it will stay that way for more years to come.
