Chapter 9: Master And Disciple

Wu Yu had a nice and long chat about his future development as a spirit master with the grandmaster and many options were laid out for him.

Wu Yu had three options he could take, the first one was to become an agility system and take advantage of Wu Ji's high speed and agility.

His second option was to build Wu Ji towards a tanky defense system since the scales on its body were hard and durable allowing it to eat up damage like it's nothing.

Lastly the final option was to become an attack system and focus on pure damage. Knowing how powerful Wu Ji's attacks were Wu Yu felt this was the best option.

Grandmaster had made sure to warn Wu Yu to choose his path carefully, once he chooses a path going back won't be impossible bit it will be detrimental to his prowess.

Wu Yu had thought long and hard about it and decided to go for two paths, for Wu Yu, he would go with full power and chose attack system.

His other path was to to go for defense system with his zanpakuto, this he would keep to himself however and won't reveal it until he knows for sure how his zanpakuto works in this world.

When Wu Yu thought about his zanpakuto, he sighed and wondered why she was here, was it his soul that got taken to this world and her being linked to his soul, ended up here as well?

If that was the case then where did all his reiatsu go? It was a power cultivated by his soul so it couldn't have just vanished if his soul was here as well.

Wu Yu didn't know how he would go about all of this, he felt like if he had the help of someone like grandmaster, then maybe it would help him understand things faster and better.

The more he saw how knowledgeable the grandmaster was the more tempted he was to bringing out his zanpakuto and ask him for help.

The only problem with this however is trust, he didn't know weather he could trust the grandmaster enough to keep his secret.

What he was afraid about wasn't getting discovered as a twin spirits master but to have an unknown and powerful spirit like his zanpakuto making an appearance in this world.

He even thought that he was needlessly worrying and that his Qilin spirit would outshine his zanpakuto so even if he came out and showed his second spirit no one would really care about it.

When his thoughts wandered here, his eyes lit up as if he made some big discovery, 'that's right! the people of this world don't know what my second spirit is, Wu Ji seems a lot more special in this world compared to a sword.

Wu Ji felt so relieved to get that off his chest, this whole time, who would've thought the answer was so simple and right in front of him.

Now he felt he could ask grandmaster for his help, but just to be on the safe side he developed a plan to tie grandmaster to him so it wouldn't be easy for him to betray himself.

Even if grandmaster seemed like he was a kind and benevolent person, Wu Yu has seen too many back stabbings committed by kind looking people, to completely put his trust in grandmaster.

"Grandmaster!" Wu Yu walked up to grandmaster who was still studying Wu Ji from head to hoof with great enthusiasm.

Hearing Wu Yu shouting for him, grandmaster turned to him and asked, "hm? little Yu? do you need something?"

"Yes, grandmaster, I would like to ask you something." Wu Yu said in a straight forward way showing that he was very serious about this.

Grandmaster took notice of it and gestured Wu Yu to continue, "Alright, I'm listening."

Getting down on his knees, Wu Yu kowtowed to the grandmaster and asked, "grandmaster, I would like to be your disciple, please accept me!"

Grandmaster was a little surprised, he didn't think Wu Yu would take him as a teacher, most kids his age would seek out strong spirit masters and ask to learn from them.

In fact he didn't think he would ever get a disciple because no student would want a weak master, at least that's what he thought.

"Are you sure you want me to me your master? you know I'm not some powerful spirit master, right?" grandmaster had to make sure he wasn't mishearing anything.

"Yes grandmaster, I want you to be my master and although you may not be powerful, I don't believe being strong equals having the ability to teach!" Wu Yu firmly said.

Grandmaster nodded and saw Wu Yu in a new light, while most people seek out power blindly, Wu Yu wasn't blinded and was already chasing after power.

"I see... I would like to take you as a disciple as well but I must let you know, there's another disciple I would like to take in, you won't be the only one." grandmaster informed Wu Yu.

Wu Yu was understanding and knew that masters usually had more than one disciple so he didn't really mind too much.

"I understand gran... master, I don't mind having a fellow disciple." Wu Yu said as he bowed to grandmaster, now, his official master.

"Mm." grandmaster nodded in approval then allowed Wu Yu to get back up as he wasn't the type to have a master and disciple relationship lead by formalities.

Wu Yu brightly smiled as he stood back up and bowed to his master respectfully even though he knew that his master didn't care for this type of thing.

"Master, since we now have some form of relationship and I feel I can trust you now, this disciple of yours has to confess I haven't been completely honest with you." Wu Yu said.

"Hm? what is it?" grandmaster perked up his ears in interest. If there was something Wu Yu couldn't tell him before becoming his disciple then it must be something very important.

Looking at his master with a serious look Wu Yu said, "grandmaster, what I'm going to tell you... it's a very important secret to myself, I hope as my master you can keep this secret between the two of us."

Grandmaster nodded and answered, "Of course little Yu, if I can't even do this then I don't deserve to be anyone's master."

Wu Yu smiled at his master's reply and now felt reassured that he was doing the right thing, "master, the truth is, Wu Ji isn't my only spirit."

After saying that, Wu Yu brought his right hand in front of grandmaster and revealed his second spirit, his zanpakuto, Shugo Tenshi.

With his eyes widened in surprise, grandmaster grabbed onto Wu Yu's hand then quickly told Wu Yu to put it away.

Wu Yu was confused but ultimately decided to trust in his master and released his second spirit and asked his master, "master? what's wrong?"

Dragging Wu Yu away, grandmaster also told Wu Yu to un-summon Wu Ji so he did just that as he followed grandmaster all the way back to his room.

When they were in, grandmaster immediately shut the door and locked it before sitting Wu Yu down on the couch.

"Little Yu, I must say, for a secret you really want to keep, you sure were in a hurry to have it exposed." grandmaster criticized Wu Yu as he wiped off a few drops of sweat.

Confused by why his master was criticizing him Wu Yu asked, "master what do you mean? I don't think I've done anything the could compromise my secr..."

Wu Yu's face paled as he realized how bad the situation was and how stupid he had been. "Master, I'm sorry for my ignorance."

Grandmaster smiled then pat Wu Yu on his head, "hah, it's good that you understand little Yu, it was an honest mistake, you must've been too happy that you finally had someone to confide in and slipped up."

Wu Yu had his head down as he listened to his master trying to comfort him. Unknowingly a small tear formed at the ridge of his eyes threatening to fall out.

The words of his master were completely true, although he never admits to it, he truly was lonely... and maybe scarred, scarred of being lonely, he just wanted someone to talk to, someone to confide in.

In his other life he had no one, no one until Shugo Tenshi came into his life and shared his loneliness. She was like a mother to him, she watched over him, and protected him.

Now that she wasn't here right now, he had lost the only person he could trust in, the only person he felt he could talk to without any barriers.

When he looked at his master he realized, it's not enough, just talking to Shugo Tenshi wasn't enough and deep down he always wanted more, he wanted someone else as well.

In fact he has always felt this way but he had always denied it, making himself think that what he had was already enough even though deep down he knew it wasn't true.

'I finally understand now, I sorry Shugo, even though you've always tried to help me realize this, I've always been too stubborn to accept it.' Wu Yu thought to himself as he clenched his fists.

"Little Yu? are you alright?" grandmaster got worried that Wu Yu might've taken his criticism badly and in turn affect him badly in the future.

Hearing his master's concern woke Wu Yu up from his little self reflecting episode and he immediately spoke up to clear his master's worries, "I'm fine master, I was just reflecting, I'm sorry for worrying you."

"That's good, just remember that this school isn't your friend it's more like your business partner, they have eyes everywhere and will only do things that will benefit themselves." grandmaster warned Wu Yu seriously.

Wu Yu nodded in understanding then asked quietly as if he was afraid of someone hearing them, "then master, my second spirit, what do you think?"

Grandmaster chuckled but then said seriously,

"haha, it's fine, this room is safe. The school can't

put surveillance on me, they couldn't handle the consequences if they got on my bad side."

Grandmaster then asked, "About your spirit, can you bring it out again? I didn't get a good look."

Nodding, Wu Yu willed for his zanpakuto to appear again and showed it to his master who just looked at the sword with a bit of confusion.

This is the second spirit? sure it looks a little special and unlike any sword he has ever seen before but compared to Wu Ji it didn't seem like anything special, just an ordinary tool spirit.

If anything, wouldn't keeping Wu Ji a secret a better idea? Grandmaster was asking himself as he studied the sword in Wu Ji's hand.

Looking at Wu Yu strangely grandmaster asked, "this sword... I don't understand little Yu, why keep this a secret instead of Wu Ji?"

No matter how grandmaster observed Wu Yu's second spirit he couldn't wrap his head around what made this sword so special that Wu Yu decided to hide it.

It was understandable for grandmaster to not know or understand the katana, after all this sword shouldn't even exist in this world and it wasn't really emitting the feeling of something powerful.

Wu Yu looked at his master then said solemnly, "master, the truth is, when the spirit master awakend me, something strange happened."

"Strange? like what?" what Wu Yu said immediately caught grandmasters attention and he was fully engaged in the conversation.

"Remember when I asked you about that foreign power thing?" Wu Yu asked grandmaster who thought for a bit before coming to a realization.

"You mean..." before his master could finish his words Wu Yu cut in with a nod, "yes master, I didn't ask that question randomly."

Grandmaster's head felt like it was about to explode but it couldn't, at least not right now when his disciple was just getting started.

"When the spirit master awakened me I saw something that confused but awed me at the same time, she was beautiful, she said she was my spirit."

Pausing for a bit to allow his master to digest the information, Wu Yu continued, "She told me that she would protect me, she said she will be my sword and shield."

Unknowingly, Wu Yu's voice started to shake as he got a bit emotional, "She said she would care for me, love me, and would always be there for me."

"She then mentioned something about reapers or something then another thing about some soul society and enemies, some kind of monster with a hole in it's body."

"That was all she said... but I asked her before she completely disappeared, who she was, she said her name... but I couldn't hear it, then she told me what she was... she called herself, a Zanpakuto."

"Zanpakuto..." grandmaster said to himself as he sank into the chair he was sitting in, "unbelievable, unheard of, this is... completely insane."
