Jake woke up at 3pm in time for his errands and graveyard shift. Working at a call center in Makati has been his dream job eversince he was a kid. Mr. Ignacio lived with his grandmother for the past 15 years since his parents died in an accident. He has since moved on and looked forward to having a normal life. Work, get married, have children, retire. That was the plan until...
Ring! Ring! "Mikah calling"
He immediately picked up, only to hear his girlfriend of 5 years crying on the other end.
"What's the problem?", jake asked.
"We need to talk", Mikah replied, "see you tomorrow morning after your shift, i'll wait outside your office", then immediately hung up.
Jake was worried. The words we-need-to-talk never meant anything good. He suddenly felt no urge to finish his meal but felt guilty that his 60 year old Lola Pacing prepared this for him so he packed it and placed it in his backpack.
"Why didn't you finish your food?", his grandmother asked, "too salty?"
"No, lola, I'm just in a hurry, but I promise to eat it at work", jake replied, while combing his black hair.
Lola Pacing stood by the door, wearing a floral dress, while smoking her favorite cigar. She had light brown hair, a small built, and gray eyes that made her look like an old actress with Spanish features and light colored skin.
As Jake approached her, he fought the urge to tell her about what was bothering him, and instead said, "thank you for the meal lola, i love you", kissed and hugged her, before getting in his car.
