Chapter 6: First Training
Elijah woke up past 8, showered and jogged to the stadium.
The home ground of Northampton Town Fc is Sixfields Stadium it is a 7,653 capacity stadium in the Sixfields west side of Northampton, it has been the home ground since 1994 after they moved from County Ground. The North stand is known as the Dave Bowen Stand after the manager that took them to the from the bottom to the top flight of English Football, the West Stand seats 4,000,opposite the smaller 1,000-capacity East Stand known as Alwyn Hagrave Stand. At either end are identical stands that are the same height as the east stand, the South Stand usually for away supporters. The Training ground is adjacent to the stadium joining onto the back of the East Stand with its own small stand.
He arrived at the training ground at around 8:45 the staff who showed him around yesterday was already waiting he greeted him
"Good morning Ian"
"Good morning Shields" he takes him to the coach who is waiting by the corridor
"Morning coach"
"Morning shields" he continues
"Today you are just going to do normal training with the team we have a friendly against Oxford City team on 19th next week Tuesday by 3 P.M you are going to be on the bench but you are not playing "
"Okay coach"
"Good now wait with me your teammates should be here soon I will introduce you"
He stands with the coach for about 5 minutes with him talking about the club and the past season he turns to Elijah and says
"You are the quiet type aren't you" he answers
"I think so I only have long conversations with people am really close too"he replied
"How was the u17 world cup, I heard you didn't get to play"
"Yes it sucks sitting on the bench I was about to come in our second game but we ended up scoring so I had to sit back on the bench"
"You know its not easy for managers too"
"I do but at the same time no manager wants players that just want to be on the bench" he looks at me and smiles
"I like you" he was surprised at first then he said
"Thanks coach"
They continued waiting and the players start arriving on the field he signals to me time to go.
They moved to the team and a 6ft 1 player with black hair wearing the training jersey comes to greet the coach
"Hi coach"
"Hi Andy this is the new player we just signed yesterday Elijah Shields"
He extended his arm to Elijah "Welcome to Northampton Elijah"
he shakes him
"Thanks Captain" He follows him to the rest of the team the captain introduces me
"Welcome Elijah Shields" they give a halfhearted clap some members come forward to shake Elijah, he reply politely to everyone the assistant manager whistle and training began.
His first training session wasn't exactly anything exceptional maybe cause he was still getting used to the team, they jogged did a few exercises and some 5 aside he was in a team with Jake Robinson on he is older than him with 8 years and he is also a striker, Adebayo was on the opposing team he looks really as good as he heard he is really big.
