Chapter 4: Signing The Contract
Elijah found it harder to sleep he kept turning until it was 2 A.M, the first step of his football career is going to be at Northampton resisting the urge to go outside and jog he turn on the music and played Adele's 21 album to slowly soothe his anxiety.
He woke up at past 8 gave grandpa a call
"Hey kiddo I was expecting your call "
"Have decided to go with Northampton"
"Oh good choice I preferred them too I will get in touch with the club should handle everything by this week"
"Okay grandpa I will leave the rest to you"
He calls Nate and the rest of the guys to let them know also they all congratulated him and wish him the best of luck.
Grandpa was very efficient the club was eager everything was done quickly the contract was sent over he was offered $700 at first but grandpa got it up to $850 for 2 years plus other bonus for goals and such. The singing of the contract was fixed on Thursday, so he started packing and getting things in order its going to be a busy year and an important one.
They travelled to Northampton on Wednesday to get a house and see around town the club provide some good apartment options he ended up pick one with a 10 minutes distance by walking from the stadium, Grandpa was pretty happy with the club arrangements so far.
On Thursday 14th morning by 8:00 am they went to the stadium to sign the contract, the first professional contract of his career, upon reaching the stadium the manager Aidy Boothoryd who was brought in to save the team from relegating last season, he was wearing a Grey tracksuit with the logo of Northampton on it, followed by another man who he latter found out to be the assistant manager welcomed them
He shook hands with Elijah and told him " Am happy you choose us"
Elijah replied " This is a good team happy to be here"
They were directed to the office where the signing would take place.
The signing went on smoothly with Grandpa right beside him, some pictures were taken with the manager and the standard claret-white colors of Northampton jersey without a number after the pictures the manager walked up to him
"Shields I will get one of the staff to give you a tour remember to be here by 9 tomorrow morning for training am going back to the team see you tomorrow"
"Okay coach".
A tour was given by a staff member alongside Grandpa, it was done by around 11 and he had to go back home, Grandpa was leaving this evening back to Newcastle. At the airport grandpa gave him a big hug and said
"Kiddo make me proud I will be watching"
"Sure grandpa, take care of yourself".
