Chapter 51: She Had Slit Her Wrist
At the Bhatt Mansion...
Ravi walked in, with a cheerful mood, Vijay walked behind him, holding his suit case. The day was a success, business was doing well, now his daughter was going to be married to his best friend Son.
There was cause for celebration. Trisha had heard when her husband's car entered the compound, so she went to the door to welcome him like she does everyday.
Namaste mum, Vijay greeted first as he went closer to her and touched her feet. She placed her hand on his head and blessed him. He went upstairs afterwards, to his father's room to drop his father's suit case before he proceeded to his room.
Trisha greeted her husband, namaste dear, how was work today? she asked. Namaste dear, Work was fine and business is doing great. Is Sunita ready? he asked.
He Paused and continued, her inlaws will be here soon. I hope she doesn't misbehave in front of them. She shouldn't waste this opportunity am giving to her.
By this time, Ravi and Trisha had gotten to Ravi's room. Trisha helped him take off his suit jacket and placed it among the clothes that needed washing. Thanks dear, Ravi said afterwards.
He sat down on the sofa in his room, Trisha sat down beside him, then she said, it took time to get Sunita ready, she was adamant but in the end, she got ready, when our in-laws arrive, I will go fetch her to come downstairs.
And what about the menu? Is all set? Yes all is set. I will take your laundry to the wash room now, Trisha then said. Ok dear, I will freshen up now, Ravi replied.
Ravi went into his bathroom to freshen up while Trisha took his laundry out of the room, summoned one of the maids to take it to the wash room for washing and went to the kitchen to instruct the maids to prepare the dining table.
It didn't take too long, the dining table was set that even if the in-laws arrive at the moment, they can easily feast on the delicious meals.
Every one in the house hold got ready and was downstairs in the living room waiting for the in-laws except Sunita. She was in her room.
She was adamant earlier on and refused to get ready, but later gave up being adamant because she just wanted to be left alone. The only way for her to achieve that was to give in to her mum and get ready.
Once her mum was satisfied that she was ready, she told Sunita to be a good girl and behave well when her inlaw's arrive. She and the maid who was helping Sunita get ready left Sunita's room afterwards.
The clock stroke 6pm when the in-laws arrived the Bhatt Mansion. Trisha wanted to fetch Sunita herself so she quickly went upstairs before the in-laws entered inside the mansion.
She got to Sunita's room and knocked, Sunita dis not respond, she knocked again but still no response. She tried to open Sunita's door but she did not succeed because Sunita had locked her door.
She did not think too much about this, she just thought that Sunita was throwing a tantrum and been reluctant to come downstairs like she was reluctant to get ready earlier in the day.
She then said, Sunita I know you can hear me, your in-laws are here, do put yourself together, look pretty and come downstairs. Be a good girl and come greet your in-laws.
Trisha went downstairs immediately she spoke to Sunita through the door. As soon as she got downstairs, Ravi's best friend, his wife and son came inside the Bhatt Mansion. They all greeted namaste to everyone in the house and got response of namaste aswell.
Everyone wore bright smiles on their faces. Ravi urged his best friend and family to have a sit. They sat down. When they sat down, Trisha instructed the maids to bring sweets for the guest.
They took the sweets and thanked Trisha for her hospitality. As they were eating the sweets, they unconsciously looked around and noticed that their daughter in-law to be was not present.
Ravi's best friend then asked Ravi. What about our daughter in-law to be? Where is she? My handsome son here is excited and wants to meet her.
But truth of the matter was that he was the one who wanted the alliance by all cost. For years he has been pitching the idea of a marriage between both families to Ravi.Ravi usually just diverts the topic and talk on business and the stock market, for example.
His best friend had figured that his family will benefit alot from the alliance between the families through marriage. When Ravi brought up the idea to him few days ago, he had accepted the it immediately without hesitation.
When he got home, he spoke to his family about it and they did not object to the idea, his son spends most of his time at work, he barely have time for women and dates, he accepted the alliance, he figured it would save him the stress of dating.
And besides his father had already accepted for him on his behalf and there was nothing else he could do but to accept. If he had rejected, his father would not have taking it lightly with him. He saw the joy in his father eyes, so he did not decline.
His mother never for once opposed the decisions of her husband since the day he married her, she accepted his every decision very easily. In fact when her daughter was given out in marriage against her will, she could not even object to save her. Her son did not worry about this alliance, so she was not worried about it either and accepted it aswell.
Now they were at the Bhatt Mansion, the person they came for was not in sight. Ravi Immediately called one of the maids to go upstairs to Sunita's room to call her. The maid came back shortly and said, sir miss Sunita is not answering and she has locked herself in the room.
Ravi did not want to alert his friend and in-laws about Sunita's reluctance earlier, in fact when he was proposing the idea of an alliance between both families, he made it seem as if Sunita was happy about it.
Ravi then said to his friend, my apologies, she is just shy, am sure you would be down in no time. Then he sent Vijay to go fetch his sister. Vijay went upstairs to Sunita's room, knocked on her room several times, she wouldn't respond and she wouldn't open up the door. He continued knocking at the door and after awhile he began to panic.
He then sent one of the maids walking in the passage to go call some of the butlers that they should come and help him break down Sunita's door.
The maid ran downstairs panicking, and called the butlers. Vijay upstairs was already trying to break down Sunita's door. Ravi and the others saw how the butlers and the maids ran upstairs.
They became worried, and wondered was was happening. They followed suit and ran upstairs to Sunita's room. Ravi's friend and family were now left in the living room alone. They looked confused and wondered what was going on.
By the time the Bhatt family got upstairs, Ravi and the butlers had already broken down Sunita's door. They ran inside, Ravi was about to ask what was going on but was interrupted by Vijay.
He yelled, call the emergency, to no person in particular. He was holding on to Sunita. She was lying down, in the pool of her own blood. She had slit her wrist and had lost a whole lot of blood.
Trisha cried Sunita, she ran to her and held her face with both her hands, Sunita!!! please wake up. By this time, one of the maids had dialled the emergency number.
Ravi then went closer and told the family members who were in shock around her to give her some space, that she needed air. He panicked and paced around the room from one end to the other.
After about a while, the ambulance arrived, one of her uncles directed the medical personnel upstairs to Sunita's room. The medical personnel roughly checked her pulse and then carefully carried her downstairs.
Downstairs, Ravi's friend and family were shocked to find out that Sunita was unconscious and being rushed to the hospital. Ravi's friend immediately went to Ravi when he came downstairs and quickly told him that this is perhaps the wrong timing. He prayed for Sunita's quick recovery briefly and said that he had to leave with his family.
Trisha got into the ambulance with Sunita. Vijay stained with blood drove Ravi in one of the cars and followed the ambulance to Bombay Teaching Hospital. The bodyguards followed behind in another car while the rest of the family stayed home panicking.
The maids at home quickly cleaned the pool of blood of Sunita, poured disinfectant on the floor and sprayed air freshener to get rid of the smell of blood in the room.
Sunita had lost a lot of blood, she needed blood so Vijay donated blood for her. After he finished donating blood, he was given something to eat to replenish his blood and then told by the nurse on duty to rest. He ate and laid back on the hospital bed and rested.
Sunita was placed in Intensive car. An oxygen tube was connected to her nostrils, while a needle with small tubes attached to it, was inserted into her veins to give her blood.
Sunita's face was pale, her eye lids closed, she looked beautifully pale in her sleep. The doctor checked her properly and ensured that she was stabilized. When he was sure that she was stabilized, he then instructed the nurse on duty to keep an eye on her and alert him when she wakes up. Ok doctor the nurse replied.
The doctor came outside of Sunita's room, When Ravi saw him, he did not hesitate, he asked him immediately how his daughter was. Trisha asked if she could see her. The doctor replied them both respectively by saying, she is stabilized but not out of danger yet, and you can't see her now, she needs to wake up first before anyone can see her.
When will she be awake? Ravi asked. She has being given the necessary treatment, her waking up depends on how strong her body can fight to recover, the doctor replied.
You should pray for her quick recovery, he added. Please do excuse me, I have other patients to attend to. I will come check on her from time to time.
Ok doctor, Ravi replied. The doctor left and Trisha started to cry lightly. Ravi hugged her and comforted her. He said to her, all will be well, Sunita is a fighter, she will pull through. You should pray and don't cry anymore.
Vijay stepped out from the hospital room he was and walked down to his parents. He sat down on the chair close to them. Ravi then told Trisha that they should sit down aswell, so they sat down.
The three of them sat down silently, after a while, Ravi called one of the bodyguards and told him to take his wife and son home, that he will stay the night with his Sunita.
Trisha rejected his offer and told Vijay to go home with the bodyguard and rest well, that she would wait with Ravi in the hospital for Sunita to wake up.
Vijay had donated blood for Sunita, he needed all the rest he can get, he did not object, he followed the bodyguard who drive him home.
When he got home, he briefed his family members about Sunita's condition. That he had donated blood for her and when he left the hospital, she was still unconscious.
He went upstairs after a short while, took a hot bath, went downstairs, ate a proper meal to replenish his body and went back upstairs. He was so exhausted that he slept off almost immediately he laid down on his bed.
