Chapter 7: An unfortunate event

"Just a cereal bar, that's all they had! Is this what we're paying them for and it doesn't even taste good." Nora nagged.

"Technically you aren't paying them for anything." Tina said, biting into her bar.

"Well my case is different, but you are, and you're satisfied with this." She said placing the bar right in front of her face.

"You wanna have it or not." Tina asked.

"No, you can eat it." She sighed and handed it out to Tina.

"You'll pay for my breakfast tomorrow!" Nora blurted.

"Okay your highness, now will you keep it down, if anyone finds out we're dead." Tina said with a smirk. Nora nodded.

They had to cross over the literature department to get back to their dorm, it was a long way.

"Anyway the thing you saw today, it didn't happen, I mean not even close to happening." Tina said.

"Yeah. Even I don't know. Lately this is messing up my mind. I sometimes can't even tell if these are my own memories."

"Your own memories?" Tina raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, it seems different, like something has changed. I don't know how to explain it. I'm tired of it. I don't like it."

"Hey easy there. Don't lose hope like that. It's fine, you can make mistakes too. Now take a chill pill." Tina said.

Tina had always been like that, always cheering her up. Back then, Nora didn't talk much because of her fear of letting out the secret of her true identity. In elementary school, that's when a girl with long blonde hair and shining green eyes approached her and pulled her out of her dark pit. Nora feared if Tina knew her secret she would hate her like everyone did. But once it was out, strangely she didn't leave her side or hated her like others but rather their friendship became deeper and stronger. Because of Tina, Nora opened up and started communicating with others, she accepted herself the way she was.

Nora looked at Tina with a smile and nodded and started moving towards the literature department.

All of a sudden she fell short in her steps and froze. "Ah", she held her head in her hands and shut her eyes, she felt a throbbing pain in her head. She fell down to her knees, clutching onto her head tightly. Everything around her started spinning. It was painful, it was frightening.

Out of nowhere the wind started blowing. It was too strong. The sound of rustling of the leaves increased, as the trees almost bent down to the strong force of the wind.

Tina stood their bewildered, she came to her senses and looked down at Nora, she was shivering, she bent down, "Hey Nora?" She called out.

"Help. Somebody." Nora screamed in agony, her voice barely audible over the sound of the wind. The force of the wind was only increasing. "Stop. No." Nora screamed and the lights started to flicker vigorously. Tina froze seeing what was happening, she was frightened, she was more afraid about it harming Nora. "No", this time Nora whimpered. And then everything came to a stand still. It became dead silent. The only noise breaking the silence was Nora's heavy breathing. She was shivering all over, still on her knees and her head clasped between her hands.

"We failed." A man said. He turned to look at the person behind him, the room was huge and had an eerie green glow.

"Looks like the first time was a matter of luck, Master." The man said.

"Luck?" The Master moved towards the man, "Luck, you said."

He could feel shivers run down his spine with every step the Master took, wrong move, he realized.

"Forgive me Master." The man bowed.

"Looks like you aren't that lucky." The Master whispered in the man's ear.

Without hesitation he slid up a knife, and slit open the man's throat, the blood came gushing out. He fell down, writhing, trying to stop the bleeding, it was useless. The Master stood beside the man watching the life escape his body. When the man's body stilled, he bent down, touched the fresh blood that seeped out from the man's throat and rubbed it between his fingers, "Useless humans" , he said with disgust.
