~~~~Some days are just bad days, that's all.~~~~
LUCY'S POV.
After spending almost all day in bed, I don't usually feel hungry but I right now I'm starving, so I check my pantry and discover it empty to bits, I need to go grocery shopping. I suppose I could get some fresh air and activity. Theres a grocery store just 5 minutes away from me but I choose to visit the one near the mountain which is about 30 minutes away, If I take my bicycle. I make a list, milk, eggs, bread, cheese, vegetables, the usual basic stuff. My phone starts buzzing like crazy while I get on my bicycle. I unlock my phone and check my notifications and it's from Instagram, I got tons of likes and comments and quite a few new followers. Apparently someone mentioned me, its none other than the nerd Lucas Hells. I DM him saying,
"Thanks for your appreciation :)"
I notice he has a story on his Instagram, I view it and it is a picture of a grocery store with a copy of his art piece on the wall. I feel confused as I feel I've seen something familiar around here somewhere, I look around and right in front of me is the portrait. I feel perplexed and wonder if he lives around here. I decide to put it in my story too to return the favour. after Im out of the place I notice a set of stone stairs on a mountain just outside the store. I guess I could spend sometime there, I climb the mountain leaving my bags in the cycle basket.
I climb down and get on my bicycle and cycle back home, as I cycle across the grocery store, I see someone who looked familiar. He noticed me looking at him and smiled at me, I embarrassingly smile back and cycle away but my dial starts going wild.
When I reach home, I plop down on my bed and think of the incident that just happened, why did my dial go wild and say 20 seconds, could that boy possibly be my soulmate? I brush the thought under the mat and reach for my phone as I remember it not ringing for quite a while or its always getting a ring every 2 minute. Suddenly I discover that my phone isn't in my pocket, I get instant shivers down my spine. I jump and immediately check all my pockets, the grocery bags, the bicycle basket, every corner of my house and my phone is nowhere to be found. At this point, I'm making a mess everywhere. I still don't give up and check everywhere again times. I eventually give up after a while as my head starts to ache. I decide to call up my phone to see if it rings somewhere around here. I stupidly realise I don't have another phone in the house, but I could go to my neighbours house. I haven't spoken to Evan since years so it'd be awkward but desperate times call for desperate measures. I walk toward his house hurriedly. I knock on the door and call out his name, he almost immediately opens the giant creaky door.
"Hey Evan, can you call me on my phone I can't seem to find it." I say impatiently.
"Oh yeah, of course let me just grab it from upstairs, come in have a seat."
I get inside and take a seat awkwardly on the corner of the sofa, as Evan runs upstairs. He comes down soon after and hands me the phone, I thank him and dial my number, the number rings and a boy picks up,
"Hello."
"Hello, hi is this the owner of this phone?"
"No, a girl on a bicycle dropped it a while ago, are you the owner?"
"Yes, I dropped it near the grocery store by the mountains."
"Okay! You can come collect it near the grocery store where you dropped it right now!"
"Thank you! I'll be there in 30 minutes."
"All right, I'm Lucas, ill be there in a black jacket outside the store."
"Thank you so much! I'll be there as soon as possible."
I hangup and return the phone to Evan and thank him repeatedly, he smiles sweetly while he has a concerned look on his face as he hands me a glass of water, I guess I look really stressed out. I ask him how he's doing and inform him I'll be back after I pick my phone up from the stranger. He offers me a ride but I decline as I already feel uncomfortable to ask a favour from him so suddenly but he insists and I eventually agree.
Evan and I have been very close and he's been my friend ever since we were kids but he recently moved to Japan for 7 years after his parents died which caused us to drift apart like this and has made everything very awkward. I always promised myself to catch up with him again and go back to how we were but always got shy to confront him like that. He lives alone now and is a self-made millionaire by an app he created which is famous among youngsters, unlike me who've just got everything from my parents. I thank him again and walk together towards his car.
LUCAS' POV.
Even after the call with my mum, I still wanted to chat with her but she had to leave for work. She checks up on me regularly while I'm out of town because she says I'm an irresponsible child who loses things too often, too easily. Even though I don't see the relevance of me being irresponsible to her calling me nearly everyday but I don't seem to complain.
The next morning, I immediately feel kinda famished, so I walk downstairs to the kitchen and find the pantry full, but unfortunately its full of utter unhealthy foods like sugary cereals, cream biscuits, ramen, dry cakes, frozen items but right now I'm in the mood for something like salads and fruits. Yes, I know who's this weirdo rejecting the good stuff. I decide to go to walk to this traditional store near my house. I take a big hooded winter jacket which covers most of my face and start to walk down the mountain towards the store.
While I pay, the wall behind the counter has a portrait of my painting, I take picture of it and upload it on Instagram. I sit outside the store and enjoy my drink in the cold weather. I start to walk around the store to warm myself a bit as sitting was making me freeze. I walk past the store while I walk around and I notice an impressive looking white cycle, I had a white cycle when I was kid, it brings back memories. I brush away the thought and decide to take another walk around. This time, I walk past the store the cycle is being taken away by a girl who looks familiar like the girl on Instagram. She catches me looking towards her and my heart drops. I get stunned and my jaw drops, she's beautiful. I smile at her, she smiles back but looks away awkwardly. After she's gone, I notice a phone dropped from her pocket. I quickly call her but she's too busy running away. I walk toward the phone and pick it up. All this time, I'm so busy being speechless at her beauty that I don't notice my heart beating like it's gonna come out of my chest and that my dial had just reset itself. Weird, was that girl my soulmate? I would die if she is.
A strange shy girls' black phone in my jacket pocket stays until I get a call from an unknown number. I pick up and it's the girl who dropped the phone. She seemed nervous and exhausted as if she's been running. The girl says she'll be at the store to collect the phone in about 15 minutes. I look at the time and its 12:08 so there is plenty of time. I take the time to dress up, make my hair, all that stuff. At about 12:40 I'm already at the store waiting outside. I check my Instagram while I wait for her nervously. I open the dm from lu.heavens saying,
"Thanks for your appreciation :)" I reply, "No problem! By the way, hi I'm Lucas."
I put away my phone and continue waiting, after a few minutes a car stops at a distance and a boy starts to walk towards me.
"Lucas?" the boy says,
"Yeah, you here for the phone? I question,
"Yup, I'm Evan" he comes in for a handshake.
"Isn't the phone a girls'?" I reply while I shake his hand,
"Uh-huh, thats Lucy she's in the car, I came to receive it for her. I hope thats fine." he smiles,
I nod while I hand him the phone.
He says thanks and walks back to the car, I see a girl in the passengers seat. I guess he must be her soulmate.
Why do I feel like my heart has stopped beating.
I don't even know her.
She isn't mine.
