Chapter 7: The Dream

As the movie progressed Quinn found herself blinking slowly. She slumped against Albus' shoulder, the world slowly fading into darkness. Pins stabbed into her skin as the cold bit into her. She screamed, flooding her lungs with icy water. Her brain began clouding as she felt herself sinking. Blackness began engulfing her. Suddenly she saw motion, the swishing of a fin. She felt a large warm hand grip her arm before her floated a merman, he opened his palm and forced her to place hers against his. Between their connecting hands, a ball of light began to form. The ball moved away from their hands and floated gently into her heart. She gasped from the pain, it felt as though an electric current was coursing through her veins. Her eyelids collapsed shut, forcing her mind to retreat into darkness. Soon enough she felt someone grab her by the waist and pull her up to the surface. Cold air froze her face, but the oxygen that surrounded her was not entering her lungs. She felt someone press their lips against hers. Suddenly her lungs filled with air and her eyelids fluttered open. She looked up, staring into strikingly familiar eyes. A warmth spread all over her and her breathing slowed. She smiled into her pillow and fell into a dream filled with warm fires and a mysterious pair of muddy green eyes.

She breathed slowly in and out. In and out. The sun's light peered over the edge of the window, showering her with dazzling rays. Her eyes opened, stinging in the sudden light. She looked around her unfamiliar surroundings, taking in the warm-toned furniture and stone walls. Her eyes widened as she remembered where she was. She sat up quickly, noticing as she did so that there was a strange weight on her hip. She glanced down, her heart rate sped up, as she realized someone was asleep next to her, someone who had their arm looped around her waist. The boy stirred slightly, as though he could sense her gaze. He sat up, quickly withdrawing his arm from around her waist. They stared at each other for a horribly awkward moment. She could tell that the same exact thought was running through both their minds. What on earth had just happened?

Over the next few weeks, Quinn tried her best to avoid Albus. Things between them had gotten so unbearably awkward that she began spending increasingly large amounts of time shut up in the common room or library. However, Albus Severus is much more persistent than Quinn ever expected and one day in the library while Quinn was studying, a loud thud from behind her alerted her to his presence.

"What do you need Albus." Quinn cleared her throat.

"Look I'm really sorry I— just wanted to--" At that moment Quinn let out a loud hacking cough into a tissue. She pulled the paper from her mouth, her pupils shrinking at the sight. Her eyelids fluttered, her face paling.

"Quinn are you okay?" Albus said reaching for her shoulder.

"I'm fine." She muttered shakily. She began breathing shallowly, her air coming in gasps. She slumped, sliding off her chair and hitting the floor, her hand knocked the ground. A crumpled tissue lay in her palm, covered in blood.

He leaped from his chair, sending it crashing backward onto the ground.

"Quinn! Quinn!" He fell to his knees beside her, cradling her head in his lap. He snatched her hand, trying to feel a pulse. Her skin was dry and rough beneath his fingertips, dead skin flaking off in his palm, he squeezed her wrist, feeling a feeble heartbeat fluttering gently. He placed an arm under her knees and the other under her arms. He lifted her gently from the floor and hurried down the corridor to the hospital wing.
