Chapter 29: Chapter 29: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
After another three days of travel with the dr.veritas, Naiomi was full to the brim with rage. From her constant ingestion of various illegal drugs to the constant talking about her batshit theories after she gets high, to the most annoying aspect of their venture, the deeply personal and prying questions. Dr.veritas knowing very much about Cole's past and that Naiomi was or is madly in love with him would often play games with the teen girl by saying enough for her to be interested but not enough to actually form a thought or plan around. Most of it being things that were disgusting, embarrassing or just plain rude.
With her strength Naiomi did all she could to hold back but was unable to any longer and Dr.veritas went on another tirade about Cole and things she didn't want to know.
Naiomi "Can you please shut the HELL UP...Geez, I apologize Dr.veritas but I won't stand idly by while you talk about my fiance. Secondly if I wanted to know that I would already know."
Dr.veritas "Mmmhmm...If I had to guess you have some sort of time/space ability? The Nguyen family has been known for passing down strong genes, such that they often have children with mixed abilities...But yours is different isn't it?"
Naiomi "No, pretty barebones. It paled in comparison to my older sister's."
Dr.veritas "Then why are you here? If memory serves right your clan tends to have death matches to determine the next heir, if yours was that bad shouldn't you be dead."
Naiomi, preferring to talk about anything but Cole's dirty laundry, took a deep breath, stared at the ground, and exhaled, going on to say "You are mostly right. It is a death match but it's more of a tournament. If you win peacefully you can decide what happens to your opponents so long as a punishment is chosen. Even though I now understand why I often thought she was more cruel than she needed to be, often opting to torture us in some of the most vile ways."
Dr.veritas "Hey, hey, hey I get you might want to keep this secret so let's talk about something else?"
Naiomi "is it going to be negative things about cole?"
Dr.veritas "Most likely."
Naiomi "Then no."
Dr.veritas "Can I ask questions?"
Naiomi "Sure…"
Dr.veritas "What made you survive?"
Naiomi "Strength isn't always power based. Sometimes it means doing what the mission requires."
Dr.veritas "What? What makes you think like that? Like did something happen? What happened to your sister? Huuuh did you kill her???"
Naiomi "If you'd shut up and listen you'd get your answers."
Dr.veritas "oh...sorry...continue…"
Naiomi "Can I? Can I really.. miss.squirrel?"
Dr.veritas "No need to be rude, just go on. I'll zip it, promise."
Naiomi "Thank you, anyways, I wasn't the first born. I was actually the second, Younger than my sister by a few minutes but to us that might as well be years."
Dr.veritas "So wait, are you guys years older or twins? How did that breakdown? I kinda know yours from public record but ms.fed chief is the only one that shows up on a background check despite having thirteen? No, twelve, siblings…"
Naiomi "Thirteen...And YOU are so lucky we need this conversation so I can get to where I need to be."
Dr.veritas "I know lol, Anyways continue?"
Naiomi "Yes..erm..um…"
Dr.veritas "What happened to your siblings?"
Naiomi "Yes...that...okay *WWWHhhhooooo* to answer your question and transition...She was absolutely perfect. She was everything my parents wanted her to be. She was my identical twin born no more than seven minutes apart. Even that was a leap even out of my grasp."
Dr.veritas "Seven minutes? Like It took YOU seven more minutes to be formed than she did right?"
Naiomi "Yes. She had both of our parents' magic like I did but unlike me hers was perfect. Time and space were but her plaything even as toddlers…*sigh* Basically for her there were no limits. She was free to travel time and space as she wished. Sometimes even as a baby when she got frustrated she started talking to our parents with perfect grammar. I however can only see the past but can never interact with it and see the future but I can't ever seem to change the path I've been on. Unlike her who was stuck in the loop of the entire multiverse, I'm stuck inside my multiverse. Only able to see what happens to me and those who interact with me on those days."
Dr.veritas "But you change the timeline all the time?"
Naiomi "No I don't. I can't. I may be able to speed or slow time and what not but that's not altering it."
Dr.veritas "Hmmm...I guess the best way to explain this to you...Oh yea. So my magic is called god's mind. Ironic isn't it? Basically I can simulate any reality I so choose."
Naiomi "How is that anything special? The aie already does that."
Dr.veritas "Maybe so...but not quite like mine. Mine are in all sense of the word real? But what is reality anyways? Let's just say, I can tell when the universe isn't exactly as it should be. I try to fix it every once in a while, but lately it's been a bit difficult with your meddling."
Naiomi "I did no such thing. I can't…"
Dr.veritas "Um..you know that how? You know how magic is tied to dna right?"
Naiomi "yea..Your point."
Dr.veritas "Wow...Okay, Um you may need a new reality."
Naiomi "huh? What are you talking about?"
Dr.veritas "Nothing…Hey do me a favor?"
Naiomi "What?"
Dr.veritas "Can I have a li--l sample of your blood?"
Naiomi "NO!"
Dr.veritas "Awwww why nooot?!?!?!?"
Naiomi "Do I really need a reason why? WHY ON EARTH WOULD I GIVE YOU MY BLOOD?"
Dr.veritas "Well If you do I'll tell you a secret *hehehe*"
Naiomi "What could you possibly know that would make me want to know so bad that I really give you even a drop of my blood?"
Dr.veritas sat for a moment, opened up her lil cigarette box and pulled her tiny joint, a purple lighter to light her joint as she took a deep drag and exhaled.
Dr.veritas "How about why cole won't find peace?"
Naiomi "And how would you possibly know that?"
Dr.veritas "Because I made him, I crafted that body or that human husk he would like to call a body."
Naiomi "What? He bleeds, he has a soul, he is still alive. Does he not breathe and eat?"
Dr.veritas "Yes, of course! It wouldn't make sense otherwise? He is by all accounts a human except for his soul, for his life has been around long before both of us were even thought of. Under the order of the most-high I was to craft a perfect vessel. He has a body that is expected to hold the soul of an arch-angel and the soul of a nephilim, the soul of a man, and his son all in one body. Was it easy? No…But the other lesser spirits were tired of hearing Samael's cries whenever his lil toy would break from the stress. A naturally formed body could NEVA tuh."
Naiomi "He's what?"
Dr.veritas "A high angel, nephilim, human and the son of the most high in one body. Basically they are all fighting for dominance and obedience but yet he remains in his mortal flesh."
Naiomi "How is he like that and alive?"
Dr.veritas "I don't know, I don't question the most-high. I just do as he says. Honestly I'm surprised I even was able to build it."
Naiomi "What do I get out of that?"
Dr.veritas "Well, you see. Help him find balance in his life and you'll help him move closer to the world where he truly loves you."
Dr.veritas' AIE's shone a bright vibrant red as she leaned in so close Naiomi's nostrils fogged up her glasses. In the split second before Naiomi aggressively shoved Dr.veritas away, a tiny needle attached to a small syringe spurted a warm red liquid on Naiomi's uniform skirt.
Naiomi "If that is my blood…I swear I will do the unspeakable."
Dr.veritas "Swearing isn't good."
Naiomi "IS THAT MY BLOOD?!?"
Dr.veritas "I have no clue what you had on your skirt? Maybe lady flow visited early?"
Naiomi's eyes darkened as a blank and emotionless stare befell her face, she took a deep breath, turned her back to Dr.veritas, took another deep breath as she spun around and swung her fist as hard as she could, smashing the dr's glasses into her face, sweeping her off her feet and into a nearby tree. Dazed and confused, Dr.Veritas looked up to a blurry Naiomi holding a silver glittery object to her face.
Naiomi "Let this be a warning the next time you dare violate me in any way while on this mission and I'll have your head. Do I make myself clear?"
Dr.veritas {pulling another pair of glasses from her coat pocket} "Crystal cappin'. May I ask that you not break my glasses when you 'decapitate' me? Huh…spoopy scare? Fine, I will not do that again."
Naiomi "If you say so."
Shortly after Naiomi sheathed her sword, Shawnte emerged from the forest pulling a cart filled with her haul for dinner and the bodies of three men piled on top. As the cart approached the camp it snapped a branch making Dr.veritas jump up, rush over to the cart, and start wailing over the bodies.
Dr.veritas "Nooooo! Chester, Alvin, Fredriiiiiiick. WHAT DID YOU DO?!?!?! THEY ARE DEAD!!!!"
Shawnte "They aren't dead but it's pretty close."
Naiomi "Ugh you should've kept them somewhat conscious so we could question them a bit more."
Shawnte "No need, I already did that. The other two didn't know why they were coming to the forest and Chester didn't snitch but that's okay. He is a tad bit more powerful than the other two anyways so it wasn't as easy to subdue him."
Naiomi "Chester? You remembered his name?"
Shawnte "Yea, I normally remember the names of particularly difficult or fun prey."
Naiomi "You get wilder and wilder the more you open your mouth."
Shawnte "Yea yea, is the porta-grill set up already?"
Naiomi "Yes, just got to light it."
Shawnte collected her cooking equipment and supplies to begin cooking when she noticed something for the first time worry and sorrow on Dr.veritas' face as she leaned over her fallen comrades crying and muttering their names through the tears over and over, constantly apologizing for not being there to actually help, lastly ending her tears by promising to get them back. Naiomi seeing the scene laid out before her softens her heart and shares her condolences in the moment.
Dr.veritas "I understand you did that because you 'care' but get off of me."
Naiomi "Fine, they are just unconscious anyways. Their injuries didn't put them in a critical condition and I repaired the rest of the damage.with my magic."
Dr.veritas "Uh huh…whatever."
Naiomi "Okay, I'm not gonna try if you aren't either. The food is almost done, come eat whenever you feel up to it."
Dr.veritas "Okay, I'll be there soon or whatever."
Dr.veritas sat with her friends waiting for them to wake up as Shawnte and Naiomi made spots for everyone to eat. It wasn't the most extravagant meal, but it was the best meal they've had for a while. A plate of chopped squirrel meat and a nut paste with a few wild blueberries on top. The plate came with a side bowl of rice and potato soup. Luckily for the group or rather the dismay of Naiomi, Shawnte found some rotting berries she was able to distill into a rudimentary wine for a drink. Once each spot around the campfire was built appropriate to each portion the person would eat, Naiomi using her precognition to figure out how much each person would be able to finish, each plate was made in perfect portions for each person and even enough for seconds or later rations for the group.
Dr.veritas "Why are there three extra plates?"
Shawnte "Don't those people eat?"
Dr.veritas "They do…but…thats not what i'm questioning."
Naiomi "We were instructed to treat demons as equals by Cole. I don't think he would take to kindly to us not giving them food, especially after ONE OF US put them on life support."
Shawnte "He said don't kill them and I didn't. Big deal. Do you know how many people your boyfriend put on life support during the tournament?"
Naiomi "That's not the point and he isn't my boyfriend…"
Dr.veritas "Why are you showing such kindness to them? They were sent here to capture you."
Naiomi "Like that hardly matters.If she was able to defeat them without much trouble alone, I doubt they'd be much of a threat."
Shawnte "How did you know they were sent here to capture us?"
Dr.veritas "Because the queen sent them to bring me back after taking you down."
Naiomi "Oh…Okay. Well, aren't you going to wake them up?"
Dr.veritas went to wake up her lil rag tag group.Their faces dropped from the mere sight of Shawnte as they all clambered to each other in a bitter fright but was calmed by Naiomi reaching out a plate of food to them.
Naiomi "So are you gentlemen going to eat? Shawnte spent a while cooking and I would hate for your food to go to waste."
Dr.veritas started to tear up as she took her plate with the trio following after. Naiomi in a loving kindness gave them all a hug bringing her warmth and the love of a hundred people.
Dr.veritas "Thank you…I don't know what to even say right now. The kindness is surreal."
Naiomi "Just because someone does you wrong doesn't mean you should do them wrong. The world has its own way of balancing itself out."
Chester "I know what to say! LETS EAT!"
Alvin "Heck yea, it smells awesome!"
Frederick "Umoi it's delicious!!! It's the best field food ive ever had!"
Shawnte "I'm glad you like it."
Naiomi "It's surprisingly good. Where did you learn how to cook like this."
Shawnte "My…my father used to take me out hunting…a lot."
The group scoffed down their food like it was the first and last thing they would ever eat. After they finished and cleaned up, each of their bellies rumbled with gas making them all burp in unison. While their food was digesting, Chester, Alvin, and Frederick tried to sneak off but as soon as they took their first step Naiomi used her time stop to freeze them in place, Alvin being the only one to fall as his foot was raised.
Alvin "What the heck man!"
Naiomi "You thought we were just going to let you go? You guys aren't that bright huh?"
Alvin "Doc can you help us out here!?!"
Dr.veritas "Sorry guys my hands are tied as of now. I got orders from G-O-D himself to go with these fine ladies."
Naiomi "I would like to know what your actual purpose for ambushing us?"
Chester "WE AINT TALKIN'"
Naiomi "I am not like shawnte. I will literally make you repeat every single pain you have ever experienced in your entire life for the next thousand years. Please respect your peace of mind and normal sensibilities before I make hell look like an amusement park."
The sharp look in Naiomi's eyes struck fear deep into their hearts. The longer they took to answer the more the sense of death and doom loomed over them, crushing them under it's weight in their silence.
Frederick "If we tell you whats stopping you from just hurting us anyways?"
Naiomi "Well…you do have a point there…I guess nothing? I was leaning towards doing it regardless but I will give you my word backed by the entire Nguyen family."
Chester "Fine!"
Alvin "Shut ya trap. She will kill us if they find out."
Fredrick "I don't think missy here is playing games."
Shawnte "To be honest guys, She can be scary at times. I would take her offer before it's too late."
Chester "I'M TELLING HER."
Alvin "I always knew you were worthless."
Chester "Our mission was to bring the Doc back with us to hell as Queen Jody ordered."
Naiomi "Queen Jody? Why does that name sound familiar?"
Shawnte "Why would the queen of hell send you three weaklings?"
Alvin "Hey I'm a level 2 demon and Frederick is a level 3 demon. Chester is just the new guy. This was supposed to be an easy mission. Recover Doc, and kill anyone who gets in the way. We got reports that you sent low class people on escort missions not the higher ups."
Naiomi "That makes sense now…Cole must've known that there was a leak during the month Angillina was over the school."
Shawnte "MInd filling me in here? Something other than rando bits of info?"
Naiomi "Cole sent us two on a mission despite it being a regular escort mission it's like he knew what would happen given the situation of the school. I even told him it's a bit of mismanagement of the resources he had available but he shrugged it off basically and sent us anyways."
Shawnty "You really think Cole thought that far ahead?"
Naiomi "No, to be quite honest I doubt that he even thought about it too much. He normally follows his gut instinct."
Shawnte "How do you possibly know this?"
Naiomi "I saw his past and future when we fought. Not to mention it's pretty clear given his fighting style."
Shawnte "I wonder if it's because he lacks book knowledge?"
Dr.veritas "You two are almost onto it except cole is book smart he's just lazy and doesn't apply himself towards anything. Honestly that tournament was the highest we've ever seen him apply himself towards anything."
Naiomi "That explains why he's failing most of his classes."
Shawnte "Hey what are going to do about those three?"
Naiomi "Isn't it obvious? We pack them and their items up and we go on with our mission. We can either bring them to the school for lock up or we can let them loose."
Shawnte "We were only told not to kill them…But Chester is about high school age. Can we take him with us?"
Naiomi "Um…let's ask Cole when we get back and give our reports."
Chester "I AINT GOING TO NO FRIKIN SCHOOL!"
Naiomi "Oh silly thats not for you to decide."
The group went onto their travels without any further issue. Naiomi got to listen to her poems and light novels in peace, Shawnte got to hunt game that she never before seen taking her favorite parts, mostly teeth or really anything she can fit into her side pouch, and making trinkets out of them. When there was down time she would mess with Chester. Dr.veritas got her team to spill her nonsense theories to, they even were able to follow along so well they were able to correct her at times.
Once they arrived in the R&D district the floor turned into a glass like substance with all sorts of colored wires leading into the city. The gates were massive in scale. Naiomi calculated it to be about fifty feet tall and wide in both directions. The walls surrounding the city appeared to be a silver color but as they got closer it became a more polished gold chromium color and they stretched in either direction as far as their eyes could see. The road leading into the city was made from crystal shining a bright and vibrant golden rainbow. The sky above the city was pierced by all manner of projectiles, flying crafts, and buildings that cut the clouds. The entire city was a technological masterpiece. Dr.veritas and Shawnte could barely hold back their child like screeches as they raced towards the gate banging on the door like children. The person who answered the door was a short grumpy old man whose beard dragged on the ground. The hump in his back, a permanent feature from bending over a desk for years. The look of disappointment and anger made his face twisted, his voice a raspy deep growl from years of smoking his pipe that he kept glued to his lips.
Dannie "Hey HEY HEY! Whatcha doing? Knock it off."
Dr.veritas " Dan the man, How's it going bud?"
Dannie "OH great it's you…whatcha doing here? Didn't we ban you for life?"
Dr.veritas "Oh Dan don't be like that. I actually got a good reason to be here." Dr.veritas shruggs her shoulders as she continues to say "Honestly the team I'm playing for currently has way more funding and support than this megar place but my lab is here so, we were at an impasse plus they don't care how many people i turn into a pile of goop."
Dannie "Doesn't mean I'm gonna let you in."
Naiomi "Hey Daniel, we were sent here from eden academy. I would like to drop her off and go about my life, so if you can facilitate that then that would be most helpful. Please and thank you."
Dannie "First off it's dannie secondly girly, you and eden academy can go stuff it."
Naiomi "well that's rather rude."
Shawnte "Why I outta…"
Naiomi grabbed onto shawnte to stop her from fighting the old man.
Dr.veritas "I hate to do this, but one of these should change your mind."
Dr.veritas reaches into her pocket to pull out a golden coin about the same size as her palm with the numbers 777 Engraved into it in silver.
Dannie "WHAT?!?!? HOW'D YOU GET YOUR HANDS ON ONE OF THOSE?!? YOU ARE A DEMON!"
Dr.veritas "Wouldn't you like to know? I'm way more awesome than you realize with connections in HIGH places."
Dannie "Well having that doesn't mean I'm just gonna let you get through! I gotta verify it first."
Dr.veritas "Sure it's not like I would fake something like this, as if I even could."
Dannie "Like we haven't seen you try it before."
Dr.veritas "Key word…try."
Dr.veritas shrugged and handed the mark over to dannie to verify it's legitimacy with a strange device that had a slot just the right size for the coin to fit. The moment it was placed in the slot a small tv popped out showing a recording of delton repeating the message "Hello my name is Elton Von Delton. I hereby certify this mark was given to Dr.veritas for the purpose of entering the research and development district and conducting a top priority mission assigned by heaven and certified by God, me, and sabrina delton. Please disregard anyone who brings this mark."
Dr.veritas "Seeee…I told you it was real!"
Dannie "Well I'll be damned you really got one that's legit huh? Well I guess if you got that kind of backing I have to let you in."
Dannie opened the rather large gates to the surprise of everyone due to his incredibly small stature. Once in side everyone was blasted with disinfectant spray and a spritz of lemon and lavender scented perfume.
The inside of the city made them all gasp in the sheer awesomeness of all the devices, gadgets and computers. All the scientist and their assistants bubbling around like bees in a hive, small robots scooting by picking up the trash the people within the gates were too lazy or busy to deal with, coffee runners jolting around from workshop to desk to random citizen, delivering their energy mud water. Naiomi being the one to enjoy a caffeinated beverage every so often flagged one down, took a cup, and a sip later she was fully rested and energized as if she didn't just walk for three days straight.
Naiomi "Amazing! My fatigue is completely gone after one sip."
Dr.veritas "You like it? I own the patent to that brand but it seems they made a derivative much stronger than what I remember producing. Be careful it's highly addictive."
Naiomi quickly spit out her coffee and threw the cup away to the hysterical laughter of Dr.veritas and shawnte. The more naiomi freaked out trying to get the substance from her stomach the more the duo laughed until they shed tears.
Chester "Naiomi the addictive portin was fixed years ago. You are going to be completely fine. The say that so people don't develop an artificial dependency on it and we run out of supply to quickly."
Naiomi "what? YOU LIED TO ME!?"
Dr.veritas "A demon that lies…Shocker."
Naiomi "I can't wait to be done with you. Let's go, i'm so done with this place."
Shawnte "Ooo you must be heated. You even dropped the bouji etiquette."
Dr.veritas "we aren't too far from the lab! Wait till you see it. You'll be amazed!"
The group followed Dr.veritas to a small run down shack barely held together with rotten planks of wood, giving the appearance of being unkept for years on end.
Naiomi "Is this it? Are you kidding me? This is what we were so excited for?"
Shawnte "I gotta agree, it's kinda lame."
Dr.veritas "WHAT DO YOU MEAN!? For some of the best and brightest you two are sure judgemental. Didn't you know appearances can be deceiving? PULL THE LEVER CHESTER!!!"
Chester pulled the lever next to him making them all instantly drop into the floor beneath each of them. All but Naiomi, who landed gracefully on her feet, fell into a pillow strategically placed on the ground under the hole.
Dr.veritas "Well…We made it. You're dismissed."
Dr.veritas put thirty pills into an opaque orange pill bottle placing tamper evident tape on it and tossed it to Naiomi's hand
Dr.veritas "Can you pass that to Cole when you see him? Oh and pass on this message as he hasn't been answering my calls.I don't care if he's busy, he needs to come for a check up. I doubt his body has been keeping up and if he is unwilling to come in, have him call me at the very least OR PICk UP THE PHONE! Jeez i'm just worried about him."
Naiomi "I'll pass on the message."
Before Dr.veritas could say another word Naiomi had her sword out and cut a portal back to Cole's office, dragging an unwilling Shawnte with her despite the strong desire for the both of them to leave her right there.
Cole "How'd it go? You found anything cool out there?"
Naiomi "Not really. Just a slightly annoying week."
Cole "About as expected. I had to get Rose off our ass too ya know. You need clearence for things like that."
Naiomi "I thought it was top secret? Oh well…We did find a possible demon student. He's ranked level three, age fifteen, power wasn't exactly matching his rank but he has high potential according to Shawnte."
Shawnte "He does have potential I see it. His body structure was massively leaning towards a high magic network that seems to be blocked in the nape of his neck. I assume a burn line there, so he hasn't unlocked his magic yet."
Cole "Interesting…Bring him here immediately."
Without a word Naiomi dragged chester through a portal and tossed him on the floor in front of Cole.
Chester "Whats going on? Where am I?"
Cole "You two are dismissed, Your compensation will be wired to your accounts shortly."
Naiomi and shawnte put their left hands on their right breast and bows slightly as per the school salute guides and heads off leaving Cole and Chester alone.
Cole "What's your name kid?"
Chester "Chester."
Cole "Hello Chester. Welcome to Eden academy…blah blah blah. I am Cole Yankell…yada yada yada. Thank you for coming. Your room number is 48 in the dormitory C."
Chester "Wait who said I'm staying here?"
Cole "I did? Did you not hear your welcome speech?"
Chester "I didn't agree to THAT!"
Cole "So now that we are all caught up, Please head to your room. The dorms are to the left of this building all the way past the tree line."
Chester "What's stopping me from leaving?"
Cole "UM…me?"
Chester ran towards the door and bumped into cole, kicking off of him he lunged towards the window being stopped by cole again, this going on for about five minutes with cole blocking every step chester took to escape.
Cole "Now that we have that established. Will you please go to your room?"
Chester heads out to the dorm in a disappointed rage, leaving Cole in his office alone.
Samael "So what are you gonna do about the kid?"
Cole "Nothing. Seems like he is slightly above average for his grade but nothing much."
Samael "Really you think so?"
Cole "Yeah you have another way of seeing it."
Samael "The boy has to be lying about something? He is a level three demon and if i know hell, they don't just promote them for no reason."
Cole "True but who knows. For now lets just watch him."
Angelos "You have an incoming call from Naiomi."
Cole "Hello?"
Naiomi "I forgot to tell you Dr.veritas had some meds for you and she said to call her about a physical or something."
Cole "Thanks I'll pick them up later."
*ring*ring*ring*
Deablos "Incoming call from Dr.veritas."
Cole "Jeez I just got the message. What do you want?"
Dr.veritas "YAHSHI! You know you can't deny my calls!"
Cole "I'm not denying them and my name is Cole. for the thousandth time."
Dr.veritas "Nine hundred thirty fourth actually."
Cole "Just what do you want already."
Dr.veritas I know your whole name you know that? Why can't I call you by your adorable nickname."
Cole "Because it's sacrilegious."
Dr.veritas "Fine COLE, I gave Naiomi your monthly suppressants and also have you ran into a girl named Jasmine? She was supposed to give you your doses of blu-sky."
Cole "I have them and I'm picking up my other doses of the meds tomorrow."
Dr.veritas "Be careful taking them together may cause short term memory loss, mild insanity, and a tad bit of paranoia. Have you been having any of these symptoms?"
Cole "Mild insanity but I haven't been taking the suppressants lately."
Dr.veritas "Hope this doesn't kill you then?"
Cole "That's not funny miriam. Give it to me straight."
Dr.veritas "Well to put it bluntly, the meds should keep you alive for a while IF you take them like you are supposed to. They may drop your abilities down to nothing but you need to take them."
Cole "But I haven't been using magic. I started using spirit energy."
Dr.veritas "I'm familiar. Still you can't be doing things like that and think it has no backlash. Why do you think it hurts your physical body so much? It's extremely hard to tame and could lead to body breakage and mass fatigue. We need to schedule a physical immediately. Also I see your seal is starting to break. Meaning you are using too much magic. Stop before you die Cole! I'm serious, your body isn't meant to be doing all of that."
Cole "How long before it breaks?"
Dr.veritas "My best guess? A few months till it breaks then a few years before you die."
Cole "You said that five years ago. I think I'll be fine."
Dr.veritas "Who knows maybe you're already dead?"
Cole "Shut up!"
Cole hung up instantly and started tossing a ball in the air over and over pondering what his doctor told him. Thinking of all the things that would come if he didn't listen and of all the people that he met and all the work he put into having a normal life. The treatment wasn't fixing the seal, the blu-sky not stopping the constant feeling of death looming over him. Tears began to fall as he tried his best to figure a way out of death. He pondered if his dad knew and how could he tell him that he was going to die if he didn't? He thought about why he had to be born with something like that? Why did he have to have such thoughts. As he thought, he didn't even know what the seal was holding back.
