A couple minutes later, 2 trucks stopped next to one of the warehouses.
"ePower, that's it. Let's go!" Chu Lixue said, looking at the logo painted on the building. She picked her daughter into her arms, and soon the group managed to open the main doors of the warehouse.
Inside, it looked as if nobody was there since the beginning of the Apocalypse. Everything was clearly organized, as if the workers just closed the doors and went home for the day.
"Check out these cartons. Once someone sees what we came for, let the rest know. Let's get out of here as quick as possible." Mu Ruqin said.
Everyone went to do some work. Each person went to investigate the situation in a part of the warehouse that they picked, and soon gunfire rang out.
"Ah…. ah…"
"Zombie!"
Shouts came out from the left hall. When Chu Lixue and the rest got there, all they could see was a dead zombie, shoot in its head, on the ground. Lin Qiao was curling herself inside Zhao Yun's chest, who was trying to calm her down.
"It's fine, everything's okay. Nothing happened to you..."
After Zhao Yun managed to calm her down, the rest of the group got to know what happened. Zhao Yun and Lin Qiao grouped up together and went to the left hall. When they came inside, upon seeing rows of boxes and a few opened ones with solar energy panels sticking out of them, Lin Qiao got too excited and forgot about her circumstances.
"I run up to the boxes and a zombie came out from the corner. Luckily... Luckily Zhao Yun..." Lin Qiao tried to calm herself down, but in the end she couldn't and started to gasp for air.
It wasn't Lin Qiao's first time seeing a zombie. Before, during their time working outside on the walls they've met quite a few of them. They've even had to fight against a small zombie horde once. However, at the end of the day there's a difference between fighting zombies from a distance, and almost being killed by one, that was only centimeters away from her...
Anyway, turned out that in the last moment Zhao Yun managed to shoot the zombie in the head. Why did he shoot it? Well, he was in the military for a long time. Instead of using his ability to create a wall between the two, his first thought was to instinctively shoot the enemy.
As for where he had a weapon? When one of his friends from the military learned that he's going outside, he basically shoved the weapon inside Zhao Yun's hands and wouldn't take it back.
While Zhao Yun took Lin Qiao back inside one of their trucks and made sure everything was fine with her, the rest of the group carefully made their way to the boxes. After checking that they truly contained the solar panels they needed, the group began to move it to their trucks.
Chu Lixue needed another 4 panels for her own house, while the rest of the group needed around 20 solar energy panels in total. They also had to consider the possibility of some of them malfunctioning in the future, so the number they needed grew even bigger.
The task they took also required them to bring back at least 10 solar energy panels for the base. Aside from that, Chu Lixue also wanted to take a little more to see if she could sell them or exchange them inside the base for other good resources.
"Mommy, can I help too?" Chu Lili asked. After all, looking at everyone working around her, she felt a little unsecure being left by herself.
"Why don't you go inside the truck and check on your Aunty Lin?"
"Is something wrong with her?"
"Didn't you see her crying before? Little Lili is very brave, but your Aunt can get easily scared. You can go and comfort her."
Chu Lili's mind was pretty simple, so when her mother complimented her, she was already satisfied. She ran as fast as she could towards the cars. People were moving boxes around her, so Chu Lixue wasn't scared she would encounter anything on her way.
A few minutes later Zhao Yun joined them in moving boxes. Seems like little Lili worked some magic on her aunty, that at the very least didn't seem as shaken as before. Soon, she also wanted to help the rest of her group, but thinking about her experience, Chu Lixue just let her rest inside the car and take care of Chu Lili.
When the sun was already high up in the sky, the group finally managed to finish filling up one of their trucks with solar energy panels. Since they already took enough, and they still wanted to look for some other things, they decided to leave the other truck empty for now.
When the group got back inside their cars, nobody spoke for a while. They all were pretty tired from all that physical work, so before moving in search for other materials, they just decided to rest for a few minutes.
It wouldn't be safe for them to explore other places without any rest. If they encountered some danger, and someone's reaction time was too slow because of fatigue, it truly would be a catastrophe.
"I think we should begin to move again. We still need to search for a few things, and it will take some time to get back to base later. We'll better not stay outside during the night."
