Chapter 16: Something is wrong with Lily
High energy filled the whole stadium... over a hundred schools participated in this highly anticipated competition in the whole country.
The competition is held on 5 different days for different types of sports. Each sport will have their own winner, cup and rewards. No doubt, many people are eyeing for this years rewards.
Bali is a beautiful and exotic island well - known internationally for their natural beauty. It was one of the most visited island in the whole world. The surfer's paradise once people said because of its high tide. Of course, Joyce and Lily is quite excited to try to win the relay match. They might even be able to go together if either of them won the match.
Two more rounds and it would be their turn to compete.
"Are you ready?" Lily smirked at Joyce. Looking confident.
"Sure! Just so you know I won't back down!" Joyce sticked her tongue out to Lily. She knows that she is one of the fastest runner in her school. She was chosen exactly for this reason. Plus, she wanted the student prize badly.
Joyce and Lily were doing some warm-up exercises before their match.
"Jay! Let's win this match! Don't let Joyce's school win!" Lily was shouting to Joyden. Raising one of her arm and punched it over in the air.
Jayden stopped stretching his arms and walked towards Joyce and Lily. "What did you say?"
"I said let's win this match! Don't be lenient even though we are all friends!" Lily replied mischievously. Looking at Joyce meaningfully....
"Hmmmmm.... Should I?" Jayden pretended to think over what Lily said.
"Hey! We practiced so hard okay?!" Lily pretended to lightly punched Jay's arm. "Do not betray your school for your friend!" Lily pouted prettily.
Joyce just smiled at the antics of those two.
Then the announcer's voice boomed through the speaker. It was time for the competition...
The three high-fived to each other.
"Good Luck!" Joyce called out to the twos.
"You too" Jay replied tenderly and when Lily's turned around, he softly ruffled Joyce's hair and went to get ready...
Thump. Thump.. Thump... Joyce watched as he turned smaller and smaller. Her heart was beating wildly... Her legs suddenly became weak...
Arrrgghhhh! This is so unfair... He made her lose her strength even before rhe competition started!
Sigh!
She shook her head and prayed to the all mighty gods above fervently to let her win this match. Thrn, she started to take her position.

"Ready"
"Get set"
"Go!!!!!!!!!"
And the crowds went crazy.
The supporters from Joyce's school was stamping and clapping their hand in rhythm while shouting the first runner's name in sync. Everytimr the baton was passed to the next runner, they would shout that runner's name.
The cheerleader of Jayden's school was also doing some Yell to supports their competing classmate. They were also making all sorts of rhyming words to show their supports for their runners!
It was sssoooooo exciting to see how the runners try to passed the baton perfectly, without mistakes.
Joyce and Jayden were the last runner in the group... When the baton were finally passed to them, Joyce and Jayden was completely focus in their running... Each eyeing the ribbon that mark the finish line. Both were a fast runner. Joyce though is smaller in size and have shorter leg, she has a good start compared to Jayden. However, since Jaydem was taller and have longer leg, it was easy for him to catch-up with Joyce. Both were close to each other in term of distance.

They are getting closer and closer to the finish line and then.....
Rrrroooooooaaaaaaarrrrrrr!!!!!!!! The whole stadium was standing up and shouting.
Jayden Won.
Joyce was soooooo close to winning. She had given her all... Still! But, she was satisfied with the result. It was awesome! She never feel so energetic before!
She walked over to Jayden and shook his hand.
"Congratz!!!!!" She grinned happily. "Good match there!"
"Thanks! You have done well!" He then pulled her hand which still shook his hand and hugged her for a second.
"!!!!!!" Joyce was sooo shocked by his sudden action. Thinking about Lily, she quickly scanned for her. Scared that Lily might misunderstand.
"Where's Lily?" Joyce suddenly realized she couldn't find Lily anywhere. Lily was the second runner in the team, so she should be back to the finish line already.
What took her so long,,,????
Then she saw Lily walking slowly towards them while massaging her forehead. She swayed a little and she collapsed suddenly.
"LILY!!!!!!" Joyce quickly ran towards her and hold her head. Softly slapped her cheek.
Joyce tried to wake her up but she remained unconscious. Joyce felt a rising panic!
"Somebody! Called the ambulance now!!!!!!!" She screamed desperately while still trying to wake Lily up ....

At the hospital.
Joyce was sitting beside Lily. It's been four hours. The doctor said it might be due to exhaustion and heat stroke that Lily fainted. However, for further observation, Lily needed to stay for the night. The doctor had talked to Lily's mom just now and had requested permission to do regular body check up including blood test. Once their guardian had arrived, they would sign the paperworks and the doctor would then be able to do full-body check up on her.
"Here, drink some water." Joyce looked up and saw Jayden holding a glass of cool water. "Thanks." she said gratefully.
Looking at her bestfriend lying unconscious on the hospital bed really make Joyce felt helpless. Lily has always been active and bubbly. Seeing her like this made Joyce feel so much heartache.
"Don't worry. She'll be fine..." Jayden consoled Joyce. He used one hand to squeezed her shoulder lightly to give support to her. She was grateful that Jayden was there with her. She was thoroughly scared witless when Lily passed out just now.
"Thank you for staying here with me." she looked up at Jay and smiled.
"Don't mention it. It's something that I should do." Jay said to her tenderly. "Rest for a while." He then lightly placed her head to lean on his shoulder.
Feeling exhausted and lost her will to reject his offer, she let the darkness engulfed her. She fell asleep almost immediately.

"Joyce..... Joyceeee......"
A weak voice was heard. Joyce suddenly woke up and realized that Lily had woken up from her slumber.
"Hey Sleeping Beauty! How do you feel?" Joyce asked her, relieved that she finally woke up.
She pressed the bell to call the nurse....
The nurse came in and checked on her pulse and declared she should be okay. Just needed some rest and suggested that Lily slept more.
"Did I scare you?" Lily tried to smile weakly.
"What do you think?! You shouldn't join the competition if you are not feeling well! Why force yourself???!!!!" Joyce started to rebuke Lily.
"Okay... I know I was wrong. I'm sorry okay? For scaring you and everything...." a single tear drop fell out of Lily's eyes. Then Lily raised her hand to wipe Joyce's cheek which was wet with tears.
Joyce chocked on her tears as she was reprimanding Lily. She didn't realize that she was already crying so freely.
"I was sooooo dammmnnnnnnn scared when you fell down! Don't you do that to me again!!!" she said fiercely to Lily
"Yes, Maam... I will listen to you from now on..." Lily said seriously.
They both looked at each other and finally smiled with teary eyes. Holding hands, they both slept once more after chatting for awhile.

The next afternoon, the doctor came. Doctor Goh was looking at the both of them gravely....
He looked at Lily. "I'm afraid I need you to stay for a few more days. There are something I need to confirm..."
Lily and Joyce looked at each other, then Lily looked at the doctor and felt scared for the first time she was in the hospital.
