DISCLAIMER: I am being particular with regards to english-translated novels
I have been reading online novels for about a little over 3 years now. And I have come across a lot of works and at the beginning was devouring them like how a predator would pounce on their prey when they see one. I have across a lot of characters, a great many localities, kingdoms, realms, worlds, universes, multiverses, protagonists, antagonists, and everything in between.
At first I made no distinction as to the works that I read. It did not matter who the author was. It did not matter how long the story went on for. If there was a new chapter, I read. if there was a novel volume, I read. If there was a new title, I read thank you. I read and I read like there was no tomorrow.
But now as I learn to begin to curate which of those literary works are in my zone, I found some stereotypes for characters, especially the main characters that are just to put it simply, appalling and sometimes downright disturbing. And it's not as if that the stereotypes are going away, because it still continues to pervade to this day.
It has been 200 words and I think that I am taking too much of your time just listening to my rambling and I am so sorry for that. I would just say this.
Tune in to the next chapter or chapters as I share my thought and personal opinions in main characters' tropes I personally do not like and we will be starting with male main characters.
