Chapter 63: Time zones
"I understand and quite frankly I don't care. Do I have anything to do with them? No, they can do whatever they want for all I care."
"Ok!" He seemed happy, I'm not sure why.
"Which one is my bed?"
"That one." He pointed at the other side of the room, there aren't that many papers over there.
"Alright, actually, one last thing."
"Yes?"
"The place that says point conversion, is that where you exchange points for things?"
"Yes."
"How do you know how many points you have?"
"You'll see it in your contacts."
I open up contacts on my phone. Right below my name, 10,000 points. I'm not sure whether that's a lot or a little, but I'll find out tomorrow morning I guess...
...The more I think about it the less it makes sense. Even if there's a lack of male magic soldiers, it doesn't mean that female magic soldiers have to be with them, what about regular human males?... Unless there's a special reason for that... What would that be though?... I can't tell, I guess there's still too many things I don't know about...
...Polygamy huh? In theory, it may sound good to some ambitious guys but in reality, it's just ridiculous. In the first place, we humans are selfish beings and whenever we find something we want we want it for only ourselves.
Especially when it comes to a strong emotion like liking someone. Why would any girl be willing to share the person she likes with any other girl? Any one of them is bound to be dissatisfied if they are not treated equally, which is extremely possible.
Even if polygamy is allowed in this place I don't think it pans out well here. Well, I still got about a week before I see it myself. I'll just sleep on it, I got some good information out of... I don't think we ended up introducing ourselves. Well, I'm bound to learn it eventually.

In a certain foreign country, the leader of a certain organization is getting reports. The place is a house, it looks like every other regular house except that if you walked inside you'd see many stern-looking faces. Finally, it is the turn for a certain familiar person to report.
The leader of the group is a woman with blonde hair and brown eyes. She has a demeanor about her that shows an air of authority. The first to ask a question is someone sitting beside her. She had brown hair and green eyes. She has relatively dark brown skin and a face that just appears as if she has a wild demeanor.
"Did you find the ten missing flasks?" (???)
"We did, however, we were unable to reclaim them." This voice belonged to a panicked Argus. He had just failed miserably and was reporting back. Fearful of any repercussions
"What do you mean?" (???)
Argus went on to explain the events of how they found Luis. Of how they were able to partially convince him. The eventful fight and finally the interference by Rose.
"Do you think that's an excuse! YOU INCOMPETENT-"
"Calm down Veronica," The one who spoke up was the leader, she has a strong and at the same time soothing voice, "You have failed and failure can't go unpunished. That being said we can't waste our chance right now so I'll be giving you another chance to redeem yourself. Be careful not to fail this time around"
"Thank you for your kind words!" (Argus)
"Now, you'll be assigned to the American gate in the upcoming mission, the one in the midwest." (Leader)
"Yes."
"Veronica will fill you in details at a later date."(Leader)
"I understand!"
"You may leave."
Argus got up from his prostrating position and walked out the door. Thus, a plan to create an uproar with the gates, not only in America but around the world has begun. Whatever the purpose of this is, time will tell.

I wake up to see that there's still no sunlight. I woke up too early. It's probably the difference in time zones and the fact that I haven't done shit the last couple of days. I guess I'll start going for jogs again, I kind of miss that sort of routine.
It also looks like I slept with the same things I was wearing yesterday. There's a closet on my side of the room next to my bed if I remember correctly. I open it and find some clothes, they look new and neatly folded. I smell them, they smell new too... Fuck it! I change my clothes for some shorts and a short-sleeve shirt and decided to go out.
Let's not forget this phone I guess, actually, what time is it? I check the phone, 5:15 a.m. Time to go for a little jog I guess. As soon as I'm out of the door I expand my presence sensing range. Crap, I forgot about these two guys over here.
It kind of makes me remember what that alchemy kid's head as he was prostrating. "Don't tell anyone." Well, it's not like me to go out of my way to fuck over someone else's life for no reason.
I keep on walking down the hall... actually, some rooms in the dorm in the middle also seem to have some people that had a very 'fun night.' I guess that's normal for this place, I won't worry too much about it. I keep on walking until I finally reach the lobby.
This place is too big, not even my presence sensing can cover all of it. I probably could do it if I wanted to but I'll refrain. I go out for my jog, there isn't anyone around is there? Well, I"d probably not be awake at this time. I start running without much of a destination.
I look around trying to memorize what the building looks like and what are they for. I pass by the "Great Training Facility #1."I can sense someone training in there. Well, I assume they are training, all I sense is magic and their presence. I try to examine it more closely as I pass by. A girl? She has a slightly lower statue than me and she practicing with many projectiles coming at her?
I can't see her only sense her. Whatever I'll keep going down the facility. It took like 20 minutes to run even with my speed. If I do a lab around the great training facility and arrive back at the dorm I'll probably be good.
I did so and finished my jog. I get to the dorm and take and enter the bathroom for a quick shower. I start undressing and I look at myself in the mirror... It's been kind of long since the last time I looked in a mirror. I chuckle, I look awful.
I start checking my whole body when I finally see a small mark of white on my back. I turn around to see that it's a big scar extending diagonally from my left lower back, to my upper right... This is probably from... I touch it. So this is the scar from that fight... I feel inexplicable anger coming from me.
I need to calm down, I touch my bracelet. I breathe in and breathe out to calm down. I look at the bracelet. I wonder how Mary is doing. Is she back yet? Does she know now that one of her friends is gone and another is missing?
I should focus on something else for now. Everything in due time. I take a shower and quickly change. I then head out towards the point redeeming shop. How do I earn points? Is there a specific way to do so? I get to the shop after half an hour of walking. I open the door to find a massive counter with about 3 clerks. It's well lit and there are a lot of paintings on the wall behind.
I get to the counter where one of the people at the counter called out to me.
"How can I help you?"
"... I was wondering about this point system. I'm somewhat new so I'd like to know how it works."
"I understand. The point-based system is a merit system and you receive points at the end of the week based on your rank. Another may be small competitions and placing high on written exams. You may also earn points for different reasons based on the principal's opinion."
"What are points used for then?"
"Two things, the first is to buy things within the academy. Things like food, certain luxuries that can be bought within the academy can be exchanged for point. The second is money, the town nearby offers many things that aren't offered within the academy. Therefore a student may exchange one point for one dollar to use at the city."
So technically right now I have 10,000 dollars. However, even if that's the case, I don't exactly know how easy or how hard it is to earn points. Maybe it's another way to raise that "competitiveness" that the principal was talking about. Whatever the case, I won't be careless using this.
"I'd like to exchange 200 points for 200 dollars."
"Certainly, just give me your phone."
I give her my phone and she puts it on top of a panel. The panel shines for a moment and after she confirmed something she took out 200 dollars out of a register and gave them to me. Looks like I'm done here.
"Bye," I say as I start walking away.
"Thank you for your visit!"
Now, I guess I'll head to town.
