Chapter 9: Heaven's Fall - Star Fall

As the pillars rose into the sky and the shield formed, one could look up at the sky and see faint tremors in the clouds. Slowly they increased as people about the continent began to panic, the skies were shaking and trembling. Crack! above the centre of the continent, a crack formed in the skies where the tremors were the worst

As the pillars began to rise up into the sky and the shield form, if one were to look up they were able to see the sky begin to shake. Beginning directly above the centre of the continent ripples spread out across the sky. Slowly as the ripples grew larger and more frequent the tremors began to visibly shake the skies as if they were going to break open and fall. With the worsening tremors, the people began to take shelter and panic, they were not confident that the shield could hold against the meteors. As time passed the bombardment of the meteors became heavier and worse, suddenly, the shield began to crack as different sections of the pillars began to rotate and glow. The sections above each of the pillars began to reshape and spin as well. Although it left gaps in the shield a majority of the continent was still protected from the bombardment of the meteors.

The meteors began to become smaller and they gradually began to thin out and disperse. As the smaller meteors receded and the crack in the sky began to heal ripples shook out as a tearing sound could be heard. The pillars began to rotate as the different sections on them realigned themselves forming an entirely different array. One circle of runes on top of another each one smaller than the last appeared above the sky. Suddenly a large beam was shot out of the layered circles just as the tip of a gigantic meteor could be seen Xing out of the now seemingly small crack in the sky.

With a blinding flash of light the beam hot the meteor shattering it. The shards of the meteor landed strewn about the continent and even in the ocean surrounding it. As the debris from the gigantic meteor was falling the shield began to reform but was quickly overwhelmed and the pillars shattered crackling and collapsing. The largest shards of debris to make contact of the continent fell about the mostly unpopulated areas and forbidden zones of the continent. These meteor shards were large enough to topple mountains. The larger of the smaller meteors landed in the centre of the continent where the local experts were capable of handling the majority of them preventing them from landing in the cities. The smallest meteors landed on the outskirts of the continent where the overall strength was relatively weaker. This region suffered the most damage but the majority of the cities were still fairly easy to repair.

Back at the spiritual mine the pillar there had toppled collapsing the mine. The only shard fell near the mine and that was sat the bottom of the path where the Li and Zhang clans had located their disciples to besiege the mine. this shard was about the size of a horse and when it had landed it caused a crater 10 meters in diameter around it taking out around a total of one-eighth of their disciples.

As they no longer had anything to fight over and have more pressing matters to rose care of the two clans naturally retreated leaving the Yan clan atop the path. not bothering to send people to go and scout put the situation by the mine they put the towers turned turrets on supports and used them to clear the path as they slid the entire towers down the slope and back to their main clan to be placed by the entrance and armoured. The majority of the city remained unharmed except for another shard about the size of a large chariot landing in the far side of the city.

Back in green mountain city, there were two meteor shards about the size of a person that had crashed into the city. There was one injury that was caused by a horse getting spooked by the meteor and throwing its rider off while turning and running.

As a result of the larger meteors falling into the ocean and the less populated areas, this caused the demonic beasts to flee towards the populated areas forming beast tides. As the beast tides drew closer to the cities many fled towards the larger cities because not only were the small cities not properly equipped to handle such a large beast tide, even most of the mid-sized cities were incapable of handling such a large scale beast tide. The news did not spread that fast due to the network being down in most areas but once it was repaired the news of the beast tide spread like wold fire.

Those with access to shuttles fled directly to the large cities where those who only had access to chariots and carts fled as fast as they could to the nearest mid-city. When the small cities came into contact with the beast tide, they immediately crumbled and the beast tide remained unimpeded. The mid-cities could only hold out for a couple of days before falling but the only cities that stood a good chance against the beast tide were the large cities and above.

Upon receiving word that such a large scale beast tide was headed in his direction, Chen Hua directly rushed back to the inn to meet up with his father and flee towards the nearest large city. Seeing that his father had not returned from the Yan clan yet he boarded the shuttle and piloted it over to the Yan Clan. Halfway to the Yan residence, he came across his father running down the road towards the inn. Stopping he opened the door and pulled his father I. before speeding off to the nearest large city - the Inferno Tower City. Going at an average speed on a shuttle it would take around 1.5 days to arrive at the Inferno Tower City but at top speed not caring about the durability of the shuttle they would be able to arrive on approximately 0.6 days.

The Yan Clan was the subordinate of the Bai clan of the Inferno Tower City. Just like the Yan clan Bai Clan was generous and cared greatly for those under them.

During their trip, Chen Hua mostly cultivated as his father drove the shuttle. By sunset, they could see the gates of the Inferno Tower City. When looking from afar one could a large vermilion tower rising up from the centre of the with a large orb of fire atop it. every large city had to have at least one mid-grade turret, and the Inferno Tower was precisely that. When activated the tower could release beams of fire or exploding orbs of fire into the enemy. The smaller turrets above the walls were only lowgrade turrets but still quite Powerful. Civilian shuttles did not have any onboard weaponry but the military shuttles under the city lord of the Inferno Tower City were quite large and had onboard cannons that could both be used to intercept aerial beasts and attack ground forces

Upon arriving at the city they went through a quick inspection and were easily able to enter. they immediately looked for an inn to stay at as there would soon no longer be any available rooms to stay at. People were arriving at the city all throughout the night as the beast tide drew closer. After booking the room Chen Hua remained to cultivate. Around noon the next day fewer people were arriving at the gates as one began to be able to feel the trembles in the earth caused by the beast tide. At this time the larger sects in the area sent out some of their inner disciples to lead teams of outer disciples to the various large cities to help with the defence.

By sunrise the next day one could already begin to see the weaker tier 1bdemonic beasts streaming out of the forest.

the average tier one demonic beast could rival that of a body refinement stage warrior while the tier two demonic beasts could rival a qi gathering realm warrior. A tier 3 demonic beast could rival a qi condensation realm warrior and so on. Of course this only accounts for the cultivation stage of the beast while the actual combat prowess of a demonic beast exceeds that.

At the time the main force of the beast tide arrived Chen Hua checked his progress

success: Property granted by the city lord in the city and one mountain in the nearby mountain range.

Failure: Fall of Inferno Tower City and death.

He had advanced to level seven, or the seventh stage of the body tempering realm. Walking out of the inn he went off and sat down in the array lobby of the mechanic's hall an pulled out a slate. He began to contemplate how he would be able to help the city defences when he recalled that when he used the 5 elements pentagram an arrangement of spiritual energy appears. Thinking about this he began to inscribe the arrangement onto the slate. after multiple fails, the clerk looked at him and the shattered slates around him strangely before going back to his work at the counter.

Progress was slow by his standards but after an hour of constant failures, he finally got the first and least complex arrangement onto the slate. This was the arrangement of the first stage for the shield. with his success, he jumped up laughing giving the clerk a scare he then proceeded to circulate his spiritual power brought the plate and the diagram actually lifted off of the slate as the shield was formed!

Seeing this the clerk panicked and realised that the young kid in front of him was not some crappy array apprentice with an abysmal success rate but a genius that had created an entirely new unorthodox defensive type array. The path of arrays was split into two different branches, the orthodox and unorthodox. the orthodox branch followed a set form of regulations and their arrays were very stable and more often than not simple compared to the unorthodox. The unorthodox branch of array making most often than not made arrays that could only be used a few times before breaking down and their arrays were also usually very complex following the creators own system, therefore, making it hard to tell what its purpose was to anyone other than the creator; bit the unorthodox arrays were usually more powerful than the more orthodox ones.

What Chen Hua just made was considered an array of the unorthodox path because it followed the path of a pentagram rather than the usual basic shapes. Recognising this and the fact that the person that created this only appeared to be 7-8 years old he had begun to panic as he called for the manager

Oblivious to what was going on around him he sat back down in a hurry and continued to make another. Using the same method as before he began to figure out the different system that the 5 elements pentagram used. after succeeding for the third time he moved on to the second level of the technique. using his prior experience and his newfound understanding of the system he had far fewer failures in creating the pattern for the second level, the interchangeable shield and attacking arrays. Once this happened he quickly stood up and failing to notice the manager standing in front of him activated the array on the slate, first the improved defensive shield then the attacking array. The beam of light flew from the array towards the manager and he waved brought out his own shield to block it to test how much damage it caused. he had refined it himself so he knew how powerful something must be to damage it but the beam of light had left a burned dent on it. This array was capable of injuring a cultivator of the 7th stage of qi condensation! not only this but he had seen this 7-year-old create it as well. before he could say anything he had reverted it back into the shield form. taking this opportunity the manager attacked the shield with the strength of a first layer spirit realm cultivator and shattered it but leaving everything else unharmed. The shield could take the full attack of a spirit realm cultivator before shattering!

Just after the shield shattered Chen Hua let out a surprised sound and looked blankly at the manager for a moment before the slate crumbled.
