Chapter 23: Chapter 23
'Don't forget your bag, you will be needing it today. Follow the instruction and keep with the group, if you could always stay behind the leader. Do not complain and try to keep up. Be safe and enjoy your day. Leo.'
Angel returned to her desk and grabbed her backpack, it was a bit heavy so she opened it. Inside the bag there were three bottles of water, a few packs of cookies, a notebook, a textbook, her cell phone, a few stationery and a sketchpad.
Angel didn't even bother to question the things in her bag as she closed it back and headed into the living room. She noticed that it was almost seven, Mrs. Webster hurried into the living room with a tray of sandwiches and drinks.
"Girls hurry up, you all don't want to be late for this next round," Miss Carter shouted and the other girls were hurrying out of their room into the living room. Number one was wearing a jeans skirt, a blue short sleeved t-shirt and a sandals, number two was wearing a navy blue jeans pants, a red strapless top and a sandals, number three was wearing a three inch heels and a knee length dress and number four was wearing a black three quarters jeans pants, a white with flowers design button up shirt and a sneakers.
"Take three sandwiches each, a bottle of water, a bottle of milk and a bottle of juice. Drink your milk with a sandwich when you are in the bus. We are not sure how long you all will be out there for so eat one for lunch and the other in the bus when you all are returning," Miss Carter was saying until there was a knock on the door.
Mr. Bernard opened the door and there Mr. Fortune was standing in the corridor waiting for the five young ladies. Miss Carter didn't bother to say anything again as she dismissed them and told them to enjoy themselves, then the five young ladies followed Mr. Fortune into the elevator, out into the lobby and then unto the curb where there were a few bus waiting.
Mr. Fortune escorted them to the fifth bus where only the five young ladies entered the bus and took a seat. Angel got a seat next to the window which she was grateful for because then she could stay to herself while looking at the scenery as they traveled to their destination.
They arrived at the bottom of a mountain where they were instructed to exit the bus. There were only five buses that could hold about thirty people each, after everyone exited the bus a man in his mid-forties talked to each driver of the bus and then the buses left.
"Good day ladies, today we shall be hiking the mountain and it is only after we arrive at the peak we will have lunch and then return back here. By the time we do return here the buses should return by then. I know you may be concerned about washroom facilities, the mountain we are climbing have a road which is a tourist attraction so along the stretch there is disposable toilet facilities," the man that spoke to the drivers said.
While the girls were complaining about not wearing the appropriate attire and so forth the man started to walk the road, Angel quickly get into step after him so that she wouldn't be left behind or lost along the way.
Mr. Burns noticed this young lady that was following him and trying to keep up with him, she didn't call out to him to slow down or anything but every few steps she made she run up to meet him. He slowed down and turned around to see if the others were following, he noticed all the rest were still standing at the same spot.
"Come on ladies, this is your fourth round of the challenge, if you all cannot keep up or follow me, then stay there and be eliminated," he shouted out for them to hear then turned around and continued to walk up the mountain.
It was only when the girls heard that if they didn't participate would they be eliminated did they start to follow Angel and Mr. Burns up the mountain. However, five girls still stood at the bottom of the mountain and didn't even bother to make an effort.
One of those girls was number three from Angel's apartment, "What is the use of even bothering to head up when they are coming back here?" she said to no one in particular.
"I agree with you, then we would be the first to finish this round," another girl said as she smiled.
The five of them remained at the bottom of the mountain for almost two hours, the sun was hot and they had nowhere to shelter. The girls started to feel hungry and none of them had anything to eat in their bags, including number three because she refused to listen to Miss Carter when she said to take three sandwiches and only took two, but then she ate the two in the bus was they were on their way to the mountain, that is why she refused to climb the mountain because she knew she would feel hungry after walking for a bit and had eaten everything.
The other four girls were also wearing heels which made it impossible for them to climb the mountain and back down without tripping or lagging behind which was the reason for them to stay behind. Each of them was lying to themselves that no one would notice that they were missing, but little did they know that before the hike was set up, cameras were installed to monitor all who stayed behind and all who dropped off along the way.
While some girls were complaining about their shoes or that they wanted to use the washroom or that they were hungry or even that the mountain was too high, Angel was keeping up with the leader. At one point Angel saw the washroom and wanted to head to use it but she hesitated because she was afraid to be left behind, but Mr. Burns glimpsed her constantly looking at the washroom that he stopped and said that they were taking a break.
