Chapter 22: #20 Life and Death battle
After Ren sensed how strong this creature is he took deep breath and narrowed his eyes and atmosphere around him changed. He was in extremely focused state.
'Lets start with forcing creature out of the cave' Ren thought.
"Shadow!" Ren said aloud
Shadow understood and transformed into weapon and combined with Ren.
Ren created few Death orbs and sent them to entrance, they immediately blew up upon impact and set chain of explosions. Ren readied himself and Shell with Hawke went aside not wanting to be burden in fight. They were waiting for 2 minutes but still nothing came out of the cave.
When Ren wanted to sent few more orbs at entrance, he heard loud cry of beast from depths of cave.
'It's finally coming' Ren thought while taking deep breath.
After few seconds he could see large beast coming out of the cave. When beast saw little human with Scythe it was amused.
Beast looked exactly like Hawke described.
Ren didn't waste any minute and started fight with few Death orbs he fired from Scythe. When beast saw small orbs it decided to take it head on and swung with it's big claws which created wind attack similar to Ren's Wind blades. When orbs and wind blades met each other orbs instantly exploded but wind blades traveled through them and went for Ren's life. Ren was quite surprised when he saw that but still dodged with ease.
'This beast is really strong, it could break through my Death orbs with ease, although I didn't master them yet they are still strong.' Ren thought
'Since it's attacks are strong lets try it's defense' Ren thought while sprinting towards beast.
Beast saw how Ren was getting closer and chose to attack him with it's 1 tail. Tail traveled in extremely fast speed and even with Ren's slowed time he could barely dodge but he was able to get close enough to cut the beast. But when he slashed his scythe at it's belly it only left shallow wound.
'What the hell! Under it's fur are scales?!' Ren was shocked how small effect his attack had but beast was even more shocked than him. It never thought that Ren would be able to dodge it and even if he would, it never predicted that he would be able to pierce through it's scales.
Beast was confident in it's defense but seeing how Ren was able to injure it, it decided to be more serious in this fight and attacked Ren with it's 3 tails from different sides.
'F*ck' Ren thought while seeing attack he would not be able to dodge with his current speed.
Ren was able to dodge 2 tails but he had to defend against 1 tail that he couldn't dodge. He was able to block it but was still sent flying few meters away. When Ren got up he didn't see beast and instantly sensed attack from behind him, due to him being unprepared he had to use Flash step to dodge but was able to create spear and sent it towards beast's eye.
Beast only saw how Ren disappeared and saw how spear was aiming for it's eye, it couldn't dodge since everything happened in instant and too close, it was only able to follow it with it's eyes until it pierced one of them. It issued loud howl upon feeling pain. It became mad due to pain and started to attack Ren with everything it had, it's not like shallow wound or pierced eye caused so much pain but Death energy that was invading it's body did.
It attacked with even greater speed and Ren was slowly getting cuts on his entire body from unblocked wind blades. Of course beast wasn't spared of any cuts since it abandoned defense.
Ren even tried using Eternal mist but it was for naught and beast could find him by scent. By now Ren was already kneeling on the ground, his combination with Shadow was slowly turning unstable.
After long fight beast regained it's sanity and could rationally think again. When it saw how Ren was already kneeling it thought that it already won and released taunting and mocking howl. But when Ren released quiet laugh and looked at beast it became extremely afraid. Ren's left eye already regained his original blue color due to instability of combination but his eyes didn't hold any fear, despair... it was full of life maybe even more than before fight, they were longing for more. On his face was visible wide grin like from the most happiest person.
"*panting* hehe *panting* MORE, THIS IS WHAT I ALWAYS WANTED TO EXPERIENCE, THIS IS LIFE AND DEATH BATTLE HAHAHA" Ren was slowly losing himself in pleasure of fight and was unconsciously releasing enormous amount of killing intent.
Beast was already scared enough from Ren's image since it knew how humans tend to think, they only care about their life, but when it felt Ren's killing intent combined with his appearance it became paralyzed by fear.
Ren didn't care about it's fear and created hundred Death spears and fired them at beast. Beast couldn't do anything due to fear and it's wounds. Spears were able to penetrate it's scales but still made only shallow wound, but if we add 100 spears while some of them went for weak spots, it couldn't survive this onslaught of spears.
Both beast and Ren fell on the ground, one dead and other unconscious due to overusing his energy. Their combination stopped and Shadow in humanoid form immediately picked up Ren from ground.
"Ren! How is he?" Both Hawke and Shell came closer and asked.
"From his wide grin on face I would guess he is fine, just exhausted, his wounds should heal quickly with help of water energy." Shadow answered in calm tone but in his eyes could be seen worry.
"Lets go back and wait until Ren wakes up" Shadow said and while carrying Ren he went on way back to their previous training position.
"You two go back first, I still need to absorb this beast" Hawke said
Shadow only nodded and went back with Shell and Ren.
