Chapter 4: Why is he here
After walking for what felt like hours the two came across a cave. The cave had an opening at the top that revealed the rising sun.
Gasping at the pinkish sky Vincent let out a screech, " Just how long have we been walking! I did not even want to come in here. The whole night was wasted away. In a hole for crying out loud. Oh, why is it always me being dragged in with you!"
Rolling his eyes Loretto replied, "Vin you act as if you had other plans."
"Well I...uh....but," Vincent stammered.
Looking around Loretto noticed a slight movement in where the light didn't quite reach.
Vincent who had continued to rant stopped abruptly and followed Loretto's eyes. After a good second, there was another slight movement, this time a few feet to the left of the first.
The two exchanged a quick glance; conversing with their eyes.
Loretto's eyes read, 'I hope this thing doesn't mean any harm'.
While Vincent's read, 'Can't we just get rid of it and be done?'.
They formed a plan. Vincent headed to the right, while Loretto headed to the left. They had planned to corner the cause of the movement.
They inched closer and closer to their target in near-perfect sync. As they got closer they began to hear a noise. The closer they got the clearer it became that the noise was the sound of snores.
Once they got close enough to see it but far enough to bot get killed they stopped. Loretto signaled for Vincent to toss him s rock.
Vincent gave him a look that said, 'With what hands?! Nitwit!'
Not wanting to admit his mistake, Loretto rolled his eyes. Looking around Loretto saw a smooth rock, just barely big enough to escape being called a pebble. Choosing the tock Loretto pocked it up and threw it.
Loretto had aimed for the area where the second movement was. Hitting his target a high pitch yelp surrounded the cave.
Vincent chose this chance to act. Using his high- leveled hearing he pinpointed the location of the sound and pounced.
"Ow! Ow! Ow!" A girl's voice screamed, "Call this thing off!"
"Down Vincent," Loretto said, then to the girl he said, "Why don't you reveal yourself."
'Where does this guy get off! Telling me what to do! Humph!' Vincent thought bitterly as he loosened his hold on the girl.
"I could, but I'd rather not." The girl sheepishly replied.
Loretto grew frustrated. He was already on edge thanks to the whole screeching thing earlier plus he was running on almost no sleep. Now he had to deal with a girl.
"Whatever suits you, I guess. " Loretto sighed, " Why are you here?"
"Good question. I'll do you one better," The girl said sweetly, "Why are you here?"
Why was he here? Other than the fact of him falling in accidentally he could have just got Vincent to help him out. Was it for adventure?
"For a change of pace." 'not quite'
"I wish I was in here for something as trivial as that." The girl mumbled to herself.
"Do I get included in this conversation or is this a non-shifter thing?" Vincent asked, feeling slightly left out.
