As soon Loretto regained his senses he noticed that the place he was now in was not a tunnel, but a staircase that headed deeper underground.
"Hahaha!" Vincent laughed as he jumped down to join Loretto. Climbing onto his shoulder Vincent said, " First running into trees and now falling down a ditch! Today just isn't your day. Ha!"
"Fist of all," Loretto started, "I wasn't running, I was walking. Second of all this isn't a ditch. I think it's a passageway. And yes this day seems to be the worst day I've ever had. "
By now Vincent had changed into a pure black cat with golden eye. He started rolling around a fit of laughter, well as much as a cat can roll on someone's shoulder.
Loretto calmly waited until Vincent's laughed became gasps for air.
"Do glad you're done." Loretto said sarcastically, "I think we should explore deeper. Do you?"
"No no no no. Nope, nope," Vincent nearly screamed, "Have you never heard those stories? You now the ones that always end with 'curiosity killed the cat' ?"
"Exactly what I'm aiming for, " Loretto joked
"No no no! See thus right here is what I'm talking about!!"
Loretto, "....."
"This forbidding aura, " Then Vincent mumbled, "Nitwit."
Shakings his head Loretto decided to go against his friend's warning.
"Some people will just walk into an awaiting death," Vincent complained even so he followed Loretto.
Soon what little light they had received from the tunnel's opening faded away and the two were left in complete darkness.
After about an hour or two of walking in complete silence Vincent started to talk.
"I feel like one of those characters in those suspense novel. " Vincent said shaken voice, "Imma be honest with you: I'm freaking out."
"Same here," Loretto admitted
Suddenly a piercing screech filled the air. The screech continued on when the echos bounced back filling the tunnel with a symphony that sounded of what one would expect if death was a sound.
"God damnit Lo!" Vincent shouted when the last of the echos began to subside. "My sensitive cat ears! How could you do this!"
It was to dark to see but Vincent's eyes were filled to the brim with unshed tears.
The words failed to reach Loretto. The ringing in his hear overpowered Vincent's shout better than a handful of ear plugs could have.
Loretto placed a hand on his ear. It had started to feel a little itchy, even before the ringing shrunk in volume.
Pulling his hand away, he felt a warm liquid on his fingers. Bringing his gingers to his nose he recognized the strong copper smell of blood.
"This is a shame," Loretto sighed. Turning to where he thought Vincent was he asked, "How are your ears Vin? It probably hurt a lot, didn't it?"
"No it didn't!" Vincent practically screamed, "It felt like a lovely hug."
Vincent then preceded to bite Loretto.
"Why'd you do that," Loretto started, " Wait don't answer. Let's just call it even and start moving ahead. "
