Today was a getting to know the area day. Primarily with Rachael and Sara but others popped in and out depending where we went.
They showed me around the town and the main points of interest before going through the quickest routes to the forest. With the shifts starting to happen I may need to make a break for it while in town.
If I was at home it wouldn't be a problem, firstly as I am from a family of werewolves so don't need to hide, secondly because I live a lot closer to the woods than town.
So, should we have non Were guests over and something occurs, then I can be in the woods in no time at all. From town I need to be careful and make sure my route is clear.
Luckily for me the transformations we go through are nothing like the TV shows or films. We don't become mindless beasts driven by the need to kill and consume flesh. Don't get me wrong, if a rabbit happens across our path during a run, we may well dine. We would know if a human was near though and move away long before they had a chance of noticing us.
We're shape shifters, transformers, a race other than humans that live along side them. Because of this, when we shift, we still think the same. Our senses will be different and our physical shape altered but we're still ourselves with full control.
There are rumours of other races as old as ours but I think they're just that, rumours. Meant to comfort our children so they do not feel we're alone, living side by side with humans but always apart.
We are allowed relationships with humans but can only reveal our nature after careful testing and a certainty that they can be trusted. Children of these relationships may or not be werewolves. If the mother is, then the child has a much higher chance, if the father is the Were, then the chances are quite slim.
Female werewolf genes are always the strongest and as such women usually run our packs. Lone families like ours will act like the father is in charge so the humans don't question anything. He always knows mother's wishes on matters though and wouldn't dare deviate from what she specified.
Women create life and our genetics are dominant, it's only natural that we lead. Being a queer werewolf does present some challenges though, as both women rightfully want to lead. Compromises have to be made and set lines drawn. One will lead in XYZ situations and the other in ABC situations. It's all rather complicated really, especially when standard etiquette is added in.
If I had grown up as a part of this pack, my standing would currently be almost non existent as I have yet to shift. Had I already shifted I would be higher than dad but lower than mum. As such, I spent much of the day deferring to both Rachael and Sara. Not something I am used too at all but I need to be able to show willing if we're going to stay.
All in all it was a pretty good day, the town is decent and the forest absolutely amazing. We stopped for drinks before leaving town and took a nice long roundabout walk through the trees to get home.
I love the forest, all the smells and different sights. So vastly different from the Hadleigh park where everything was open and huge. The forest is absolutely massive but off the path it's quite closed in. So many varieties of animals and creatures living there.
Something must have shifted in my hearing for a short while as I could hear so many of them rustling around. It eased before getting home though so I didn't mention it to my escorts.
