Chapter 7: GODLY CLOTHES
Vasant and group bought the furniture needed and put them in their house. They prohibited any one from entering inside and started enjoying their life without doing any work. King sent village heads to check on the work of clothes after 2 months. Vasant and group asked them to wait for some time out side and in the mean time started acting like they are making clothes.
When the village head came in, the group bantered. "See this thread!! How thin this is. Touch it and see. In two months it is difficult to even make threads but we did it with such fine quality."
If the village head says that he could not see any threads or clothes, he would be agreeing that his mother is prostitute. So, he acted as if he could see the thread and clothes and praised them. Village heads thought the other person could see the clothes and other person thought the same that this person could see the clothes.
Ever since Kanina heard of the clothes from village heads his enthusiasm grew day by day. Though he sent many people later on to check on clothes, they lied that clothes are too good fearing if they say the clothes are invisible their mother would be branded as prostitute. Every one praised the clothes a lot.
Six months passed. Ram sent message to the king saying the clothes are done. King was really glad. "Many important people said that your clothes are really good and made them shocked. Please tell me what your king would do on the day he wore the clothes you made. I can follow that procedure."
Ram : Come with your wife on parade. Then give lot of charities to brahmins and gifts to us. Receive your clothes and go on parade. Since these are clothes worn by gods, that day even if a woman sees a man wearing these clothes, it is not wrong.
Ram went home. King gave the announcement to the whole kingdom and ordered all people to be present on the parade. King came to their place on parade, gave so many precious diamonds, remaining payment to them and asked them for the clothes.
Vasant, Pravara, Danda brought out one tray each. "Where are the clothes? " king asked. They said that the clothes are in trays. King could not see any clothes in trays and thought to himself. 'Oh! The woman who gave birth to a king like me is a prostitute?? Because of her I was unable to see such godly clothes. All those people praised the clothes a lot. Their mothers are far better in character than my own mother.' and felt sad.
"Your majesty! Why aren't you talking anything? Can't you see the clothes? Don't you like these clothes? These are the clothes you should wear. Touch them and see how soft they are." said Ram.
"Oh! I can see the clothes clearly. They look really good. Just thinking that after I wear them, I won't be able to take my mother's blessings since she already passed away. So, I was feeling sad. "
Ram : "You shouldn't think such sad things at this joyous occasion. Since you could see these clothes it means that your mother is a very loyal house wife. If you have any doubts on these clothes, you can ask now. " Saying this Ram started moving his hands as if he is flipping through the clothes and checking them.
King turned to minister and said "Minister! See how soft the clothes are. Isn't the design really good!!"
Minister : Yes your majesty! That laces are perfect. They suit someone who seeks for new things like you.
Every one praised the clothes since no one wanted to say that their mothers are prostitutes. Even the queen thought the same and said that clothes are good.
Ram made the king remove his clothes and acted as if he is folding the clothes for king to wear and helped the king wear the clothes. Even though everyone saw the king naked including king himself none raised it. The maid whom they arranged before hand took the queen into a room and acted as if she is helping the queen wear the saree and then brought the queen to the place everyone was at. King saw that the queen is naked too but he thought only he could see the queen naked.
They climbed on an elephant for the parade and started going back to palace. People who were on the road were shocked but couldn't say anything. Women felt shy and closed their eyes. After roaming on the roads for some time, king and queen came to their palace. King sat on the bed and told the queen. "Actually I am unable to see your saree at all. But I did not want to loose my prestige and so said that clothes are good. You said that your saree is nice too. We don't hold any secrets between us right. So, tell me the truth."
"Dear! Since you and ministers all said that the clothes are good, I couldn't say that I can't see them. Even you look naked to me."
King felt shy and anger at once and called out for minister and asked or more like threatened him to tell the truth and minister said that he couldn't see the dresses too. King asked few other persons like this too and they admitted not being able to see any clothes. King got angry and ordered for the Vasant's group to be caged in.
But Vasant and group left that kingdom already and so the soldiers came back empty handed. "Your majesty! That building is now empty and there are no furniture in that building too. Looks like those cheaters ran away. When we searched the house we saw this letter. We thinking it was written by those cheaters. Please look at it." Soldiers gave the letter to the king.
Minister received the letter and read it loud.
"To the most idiotic and useless king kanina-
From the fake dress makers-
You did things against the nature and tortured the people in the kingdom. So to punish you and knock you with some sense, we were sent by the gods of nature. So, after we insulted you we disappeared. Mend your mistake your self and take back your stupid rule. Give Subuddhi his previous post of minister and rule properly. If you disobey us, we will torture you and throw you out of kingdom. This is our order."
King got scared. "Our change might be revolting for the gods of nature. How can we live peacefully if we anger them. We should follow his order. From now days are days and nights are nights. Live as we used to. Call for subuddhi." King ruled nicely after Subuddhi came.
Mani paused the story till here. "Kota, It is evening now. We should walk now for some time. Next story is big. So, I will say it in our next stop in the night."
Mani kept chanting prayers and kota silent as usual and reached to the next stop. When they took some rest, Mani started the next story.
