Chapter 8: Chapter 8

We left the Ollivander's and I bought a grey owl from pet shop since owling is the main method of contacting others in the wizarding world. I also insisted on getting some extra books from the book store and bought books on wizarding etiquette.

## Date : 31 August 1988 ##

Since prof. McGonagall didn't warn me about underage magic, I have spent my time going through all spells using a wand. No, wonder wizards don't usually do wandless magic. Using a wand took a little less than 1/10th of magic as compared to wandless. I was even able to do NEWT level spells easily since I have more than enough magic while using a wand. Doing spells non-verbally took a while to figure out but I have managed to do all 1-7 years spells non-verbally. Meaning I have already covered the syllabus of all subjects aside from those that require practice without a wand i.e Potions, Ancient Runes, Herbology. Arithmancy was just a bit different than math which I studied in a previous life, But I have managed to memorize and understand it to up to NEWT levels.

I read the books I purchased on wizarding etiquette, laws and theory book on magic cores.

I memorized etiquette and law books. I didn't want to seem like an ignorant person to others in the wizarding world.

Theory book on magic cores was very interesting and illuminating. Seems like the transformation my core went through is called 'Magical maturity'. According to books, A wizard or witch can go through a maximum of 2 magical maturities. Different wizards or witches go through a different number of magical maturities. More magical maturities a Wizard's core goes through, stronger it is. Usually, an average Wizard or Witch don't go through any magical maturity. Their core has magic in the form of blue gas. Stronger than average wizards like a few stronger Aurors, strong professors like Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall, Alistor 'Mad-eye' Moody, Filius Flitwick, etc. go through 1 magical maturity. Their core has magic in the form of blue liquid. Very few magical powerhouses like Albus Dumbledore, and dark lords like Voldemort, Grindelwald, etc. go through a 2nd magical maturity, letter in their life. Their core is in solid blue form and is very dense. According to the book, it takes decades for a magical core to go through 2nd maturity. Albus Dumbledore's core is said to go through his 2nd maturity in his 50s, just a few years before he defeated Gellert Grindelwald. Even then he is proclaimed to be the 2nd coming of Merlin.

From this, I can summerise that a magical core has 3 stages. Stage 1: Gaseous state, Stage 2: Liquid State, Stage 3: Solid state.

From gaseous to liquid to solid states, Density and Potency of magic core increase and thus amount of apparent usable magic output seems to increase exponentially.

Magical strength also depends on the size of the core. Just like the size of my core shrunk after transformation, but it still has much more magical strength in a liquid state than it had when it was bigger in the gaseous state. As more magic is accumulated in core it gets bigger and bigger till it is big and dense enough to go through a transformation to next state i.e. 'Magical Maturity'.

From this, I can say that even though I am only 11 years old, my magical core strength is above than average adult wizard since it has already gone through 1st magical maturity and is in a liquid state. But is weaker than like of Severus Snape, Minerva McGonagall since their core is already in the liquid state, but due to the passing of many years after their magical maturity, their magical core size is bigger than mine.
