Chapter 6: I’m here to get my Compensation (1)
So much for a perfect weather. How come everytime she goes to an interview, some disaster is coming, Elena thought.
Is having an office job really not meant for her in this lifetime?
After the settlement is done at the precinct, her interview was way passed its time.
"Good day Ms. Gonzales, we regret to inform you that you didn't make it for the position you are applying.
Please do not be discourage. You can re-apply after six months.
We wish you well on your next endeavour."
Is it really hard to get out of this situation? Did I made a huge mistake in my previous life that I have to suffer in this lifetime? Tears are starting to form on Elena's eyes.

"Elena, we are about to go." her mom called out. It was there 20th wedding anniversary.
She came out of her room in PJs as she embraced both her parents.
"Are you sure that you will be alright alone darling?" Asked her father.
"Yes, dad! I'm gonna fine. Come on! I'm already 16 not a child. Besides, Catie's mom agreed that Catie can sleep over. Don't worry about me. Enjoy your anniversary, mommy, daddy", Elena reassured her parents.
"I love you both!" then she kissed her parents on their cheek.
"We love you too honey" said her mom.
"Now go! You are about to be late for your flight! Make sure to enjoy and bring me lots of souvenirs, ok?!"
Her parents are going to spend a 3-day vacation in Bali. Though she really wanted to go, she knew her parents won't be able to fully enjoy the trip because they will consider what she would want to do.
"Catie, where are you? My parents already left for the airport. Hurry! I'm really excited to watch this movie!" Texted Elena.
"I know, I know! But mama asked me to watch over my brother because she is going to buy grocery."
"Ahh... ok, ok. Just over here once you're done. I'm gonna have nap coz I woke up early to help my parents for their trip."
"You betcha! Hope Mama comes back soon. So excited to see You drive me crazy!"
When Elena opened her eyes, it's already dark outside. She can't believe slept the whole afternoon. Maybe because helping her mom packed for their trip got her so tired.
She was even more excited than they was.
Checking the time on the clock, she saw that it's already 8pm. She had been sleeping for 10hours straight and felting her stomach protesting out of hunger, when she suddenly realized that Catie should have come this afternoon.
Elena hurriedly picked up her phone to check her messages. She saw several texts and missed calls.
12:10pm - "Elena, really sorry... but I can't make it today. My mama was asked suddenly to go to work because of some office emergency."
12:12pm - "Sis, are you mad? I'm so sorry! Really... promise will make up to you..."
12:15pm - "Elena Marie! You really aren't gonna reply to me? Fine!"
2:30pm - "Don't tell me you are still sleeping? Well like duh?! You're not replying."
4:00pm - "Text me when you're awake."
Elena can't help but laugh. Catie is really impatient. If some stranger were about to read the messages, they would think they're in a romatic relationship than being best friend.
She then checked the 18 missed calls she got. Most of them are from her friend when she noticed 2 missed calls from an unknown number just 10mins ago.
"Who might this be?" Her parents should have arrived in Bali by now. Maybe its her mother calling from their hotel.
She'll just wait for them to call again. After all, overseas calls are expensive for a highschooler like her.
When she is about to call Catie back, the number called again.
"Hello?" answered Elena.
"Hi, I'm looking for Elena Gonzales?"
"Speaking. Who's this?
"I'm Officer Hilda Martinez from airport security." The officer calling paused for a few seconds then sigh heavily.
"I really don't know how to say this but, Elena, the plane going to Bali encountered some engine problem. I am really sorry dear but your parents didn't make it."
Elena suddenly woke up. Of all days to remember her parents, why would it be now?

"Ok now, you two. Both of you are at fault here. So let's make our lives easier and settle this matter nicely" proposed the police officer while secretly crossing his finger.
"How is it my fault? I was only walking going to my job interview, when this man bumped me, spilled my coffee and then started touching my chest!" exclaimed Elena.
"I didn't mean to bump in to you Miss and most especially, I did not touch your "chest". I only tried to wipe the coffee off of you." said Martin while slowly massaging his temple.
"You are the one who suddenly called me pervert then slapped me. I was already nice to you and started walking away but then... yo — you bit my ear." he explained.
"You deserved it because you are in deed a pervert and instead of apologizing, you even said my chest are small" Elena uttered.
"That's enough!" said a woman in an authoritative voice.
