Chapter 2: The fate begins
The loud banging on the door rudely woke up Elena.
She was quite tired and sleepy coming from her evening shift at the convenient store. On top of it, Elena also stayed up late on a computer shop to check her email if some company already replied to her applications.
"Elena! I know you are there! Your rent is already due since last week. I've been more than generous to you for allowing you to stay here for 2 months without paying your rent! Yelled Mrs. Garfield, her landlady who owns the basement Elena is currently renting and calling her home.
Hair still messy as she was suddenly awoken, Elena grabbed her wallet and took the pay she just received yesterday.
She still lacks a month worth of rent but at least this will calm the lady and prevent her from kicking her out of this house.
"Good morning Mrs. Garfield. I was about to go up to you today but you beat me coming here her..." as Elena opened the door and sheepishly smiled at the landlady.
"I can't wait any longer! You promised to pay me today. Pay me now or go find yourself another place to stay!", warned the old lady.
Elena handed out a few hundred bills. "Mrs. Garfield, I still lack some few hundred pesos but will make sure to give them to you next week". Elena is expecting to received her pay from her other part time job in the restaurant.
"What?! You said you're gonna pay all today! If you don't pay me now, get out if house! Yelled the fat old landlady.
Elena had been staying in this moldy and humid basement for 4years now. And just as much as she wanted to leave this miserable place, the rent and deposits in the other area are quite high.
She can't even afford to buy food and clothes as her part time jobs earnings are just enough to get her by.
"Mrs. Garfield, please give me this end of this week. You know I've never been late on my payments. Just now because the last shop I worked too suddenly closed down and the owner took our salary and run away", she beg to her.
The landlady suddenly becomes silent and thought, it's quite true. Out of all her tenants, Elena never missed a payment. She is quite diligent in making sure all her dues, electric, water and gas bills are paid on time. Unlike the ones, renting on the first floor to the one on the rooftop. She had more headaches on them than this little girl in front of her.
"Fine. I'll give you until the Friday next week to pay me the remaining rent. Otherwise, you get out of my house." Mrs. Garfield finally agreed.
"Thank you so much Mrs. Garfield! I really appreciate your generosity". Then the old lady left the basement.
Elena could now go back and get those much anticipated sleep and rest.
When she finally tucked herself in, her phone suddenly starts ringing.
"Arrrgh!! Can't you people let me sleep! Elena blurted out as her phone is ringing non-stop.
Frustrated, Elena look at who is calling her but only shows a private number. she answered the call. "Hello, who's this?
Hello, I'm Joan Burton of EN Geo. I need to speak with Elena Marie Gonzales?
Elena suddenly jerked up when she heard the word "EN Geo". Elemental Network Geo or more commonly known as EN Geo is the leading company in terms of cybersecurity services.
The company boast a revenue of $150 billion USD per annum after it launched itself globally. Most companies in there country are currently using EN Geo security systems.
Elena just tried her luck in applying for the clerical position in EN Geo. Since the company is one of leading company in the world, their expectation is high. She didn't even set a 0.5% expectation that this company will call her.

Thank you Elena. The reason for my call is to invite you for an interview. We wanted to check if you are available tomorrow at 10am? ask Joan.
Hearing the reason for this suddenly call, sends shiver to her spine. Elena wondered if this is her lucky year as someone from a prestigious company is inviting her.
Yes Ms. Burton! I am certainly free tomorrow! I will be there! answered Elena with a strong conviction.
The caller from the other line smirked lowly. Thinking to herself, the company is doing another charity by wasting their time inviting someone with this kind of resume.
Then Elena, see you tomorrow. Be sure to arrive at least 30mins in advance before your interview. Have a good day!
Without waiting for Elena to reply, the call already got disconnected.
