The Hobgoblin snorted once Heiner made eyes contact with him. 'a weakling,' its eyes said. A young man knew that he could not win this by himself but, at least, he had to buy reinforcement sometime. The villager who could fight had roughly fifty people. Including the incapable group, the human side had a total of eighty. They could win over this monster but how to do it without more casualty?
Skimming through the group of goblins, the weakest one was at level five while the strongest goblin was level seven. Hobgoblin was level ten and looked like it had an awakening trait. When monsters grew up to a certain level, they will awaken their trait. Sadly, a human could only train to get a skill while humanoid monster could do both.
Just a glance, Heiner saw a thin aura around the hobgoblin with his <God's eyes>. He guessed it was a trait that strengthened hobgoblin's body. No wonder the horde leader sent just a small group of goblins, it must have confidence in this hobgoblin to get the mission done.
'Now, I have to make a plan quickly. First, I cannot be surrounded. Second I have to narrow their path. Third I have to keep them busy here until villagers wake up and come to deal with these guys.'
A human was looking to monsters approached. Goblins did not spread to kill humans in the village as hanging around the hobgoblin was more secure. Searching in a spatial bracelet, Heiner was trying to find something useful in this situation and soon discovered. Rocks, a lot of them were pending to pass on masonry because of a limited workspace. Each one was about 2 - 3 meters in high.
THOOM! THOOM! THOOOM!
The Rocks flew out of a man's storage bracelet, one after another, forming a mound behind the human being then creating a wall circulate himself. The roughly stone wall had a diamond ring shape, leaving a narrow entrance in front of monsters. Of cause, they could climb up the wall but walking through the path was faster.
Heiner changed his weapon to a bow, filling an arrow and aiming to the space between a stone wall. The first one appearing in his sight, he shot. Unfortunately, the goblin blocked with a round shield as it was predictable. Also, goblins could see in the dark place, then seeing under the moonlight was nothing to them but conveniently service. Thanks to <God's eyes>, Heiner could see in the dark as well.
Witnessing goblins' innate ability, the young man had to adjust his plan, putting his bow away and took a sword out, slashing down the first one who approached.
KUEIIIKKK!
One down. Seeing one of their comrades died in front of them, the following goblin retreated in fear. In a brief moment, ten of the enemy's archers climbed up the wall and found their target. Heiner stared at them, preparing for the next move. Once arrows flew, he summoned a rock to block the incoming attack just in time.
THUD! THUD! THUD! THUD! THUD!
THUD! THUD! THUD! THUD! THUD!
The young man threw a small shield out of the rock. Goblins reflexly shot at it. Of cause, they were astonished as it was a shield, but while they were stunning, an axe flew to one of them. The blood splashed once the axe landed on one's forehead. Then that one down.
The goblins were angry and shot at Heiner. He smiled and moved to his shelter. He took a new small shield but it was not for throwing. The same trick might not work twice, so this shield was preparing for melee combat. Goblins had confidence in a group hunt while hobgoblins believed in their own strength.
Once the remaining goblins gathered; one climbed the rock and the rest attacked on both flanks. He summoned another rock, dropping at the right flank. Feeling killing intent from above, a young man charged to goblins on the left with his shield, avoiding a blade and attack at the same time. The target lost a balance and fell down from impacting, sword slashing on the throat, dying quietly.
Goblins moved backward for several steps, letting archers do their job. Again, summoning the last rock to block arrows, Heiner swung his sword to nullify goblin's dagger from the back. Then he was surrounded in a brief moment.
"Damn it!"
WHOOOSH!
The arrow flew through the air, piercing one of an archer's eye. It was Beyhild who made that shot from the top of the mound of rocks. The enemy fell to the ground, the rest was panic and pointing arrows to Beyhild's direction.
"You was quite late," Heiner complained.
"But you still look fine." Beyhild took another arrow and shot at the goblin who rushed to Heiner. "I'll take care of the right side. Then bring yourself out them."
Without answering, the young man tried to break free from the left but it costed more than expected. He got a lot of wounds from his reckless and <Minor Heal> could only stop bleeding. Soon, the reinforcement jumped into the battle and took care of enemies.
Now, there was only the hobgoblin left. The bowmen were standing on the stone wall, pointing arrows to the last enemy. Without any signal, they shot at the target almost the same time.
WHOOOSH! WHOOOSH! WHOOOSH!
THUD! THUD! THUD!
"Shield. Charge!" Regenmaer ordered his men to take action. Three men, holding the tower shield, charged forward in unison. For welcoming them, the hobgoblin roared frighteningly.
"NOOOO!" Heiner could not stop them in time. The last enemy smirked and swung the club.
CLANKKK!!!
The club crashed those tower shield into ">" shape and sent those people flying. Some of them might break their arms from that hit, blood splashing like a fountain.
"Aim for the eyes!" Heiner shouted.
Feeling some threats, hobgoblin raised both hands, forming a guard, defended its face. Heiner took out a spear to stab at the armpit, the softer part of the body. It worked. He managed to wound the opponent. The monster tried to defend against a spear, but it had to move that arm to block arrows again. Screaming in pain, soon the enemy could not lift both arms as its armpits getting severe injuries. Bowmen were still shooting and successfully hit an eye. The hobgoblin screamed louder than before, rolling on the ground.
'This hobgoblin trait was a passive one or an active with long duration.' Even it was reduced to this state, the thin aura on its body could be seen by <God's eyes> like before. It was useless to keep shooting as long as this aura was still covering its body. Heiner told his men to stop and summon a rock above to monster, using the law of gravity to slam it on the enemy.
BANG!
Looking at the figure under the rock, he saw the monster's aura was disappearing slowly. The blood was pouring out from its mount as internal organs were destroyed. It seemed to be <Hard Skin> trait. By receiving many arrows, the hobgoblin's body was fine, but it could not withstand a single hit from a significant impact. It convinced Heiner to believed that it was a <Hard Skin> trait.
The battle ended, but it was just a first wave. After collecting loots, people gathered in front of the young leader, waiting for instruction.
"Sighed." a young commander looked at the moon on the sky, shaking his head slightly. "It seems we cannot rest today. After waiting for a night and then this group of goblins does not return, the goblin shaman will bring the full horde to attack us tomorrow. We have a lot of things to do until that moment."
Why did I release this chapter late?
...
1) I have to handle something.
2) I can't focus.
3) It has detailed more than another chapter.
4) It's complicated and I do not have words in my head to express what I picture. Yeah, this is the most part of this problem. If you have a solution, please tell me.
5) I always struggle at writing many characters in the war scene. My brain is overloaded somehow. LOL
