Chapter 1: Chapter 1. Crash and memory
"Where are we going next?" he asked "maybe… hey watch out!!" that's all I remember screaming to the guy sitting on the passenger seat next to me before a black Skoda came crashing into my car from the wrong side, the only thing I saw and heard after that was red and blue lights, shadows of strange people, a blurred figure, of the guy who was sitting next to me, and people calling out my name against the sirens. That's all I remember from that night, my head hurts so much when I try to recall something.
It has been 3 days since I woke up, they in this hospital say that all this stuff happened almost a month ago and I was in a dormant state for 3 weeks. Though I did not have any major damage, spite of few injuries and memory loss. No, I haven't forgot everything from my past, I remember some people, I remember my family and a few friends, but most of my recent past events have just vanished from my mind. Doctor said that due to hard jerk and major crash, some tissues of the limbic system of my brain which is responsible for memory had a great damage, and even if they recover I would not be able to regain those events back in my mind, so I would just have to trust what people say.
I heard the clanking sound of the ply wood door of my hospital room open gently and the footsteps approaching me with a metal tray with bottles in it grinding and clinking with the each step the person took. "Well hello there! It's time for your dressing already, shall I have a look over your stitches, Kia?" sister asked. She had been all nice to me since the day I woke up. "Hi! … Err what was your name again?" that's all I replied, "Its Ray sweetie. Now come over here what were you staring down the window?" "Nothing, can you just take me to my car mum said it was in the parking. I need to get some stuff." I said as I walked to her and sat on my bed. She unwrapped the bandages around my head and dipped the cotton ball into rubbing alcohol and wiped the area around my stitches. "Now this might hurt a little, by the way what's the stuff you were talking about?" she enquired. "Just some books and insurance papers." I replied hissing into the pain. She gave a pill and poured me some water. "Come with me and make it as quick as possible."
I followed her down the 6 floors to the basement of the hospital building after getting my car keys, unlocked my car as soon as I reached there. To tell the truth all those books and stuff was just an excuse to get to my car, though I had to get those too but it wasn't the actual reason to get to my car. I wanted to reassure everything is safe in there. She waited for me as I explored the dashboard and trunk. Seeking some privacy I fake coughed clenching my throat, I asked for water as she rushed inside to get me some I bent down to the seat pulling the linear shaft and pushing it backwards I saw my previous files safe and untouched there, and I was relieved to see my revolver in a safe condition. Yes my revolver. Though I forgot my recent past but there is no possible way of not remembering what I am. I work undercover, risking my life for my clients, no I am not a mafia person or anything of that sort but I work to provide protection to my client, such as a bodyguard along with my only partner. We do have bondings with police but in a very secretive manner. We pickup jobs, and I remember I was on a holiday that night. The bad thing for me is that I don't remember my partner, just a blurred figure is all I have in my mind. Just for luck I do have my file but it would not be safe for us if it gets to the wrong hands, thus I decided to knock off the idea of taking it with me. I covered the things back and placed the file marked "Agn-R 0032" back to where it was and pulled the seat back just before Ray reached me with water. "Kiara we should head back now" and I followed her quietly.
